Polish farmers want to ‘humiliate’ Ukraine – Zelensky aide

Mikhail Podoliak has dismissed protests against cheap grain imports as an attempt to hit his country’s “most painful point”.

Polish farmers protesting near the border with Ukraine are trying to “humiliate” their neighbor and inflict as much pain as possible, President Vladimir Zelensky’s most senior adviser, Mikhail Podoliak, claimed on Wednesday.

His comments came after hundreds of tractors gathered on the Polish-Ukrainian border this week, with farmers calling for the closure of checkpoints and a ban on importing cheap Ukrainian grain. Similar protests have regularly taken place in Poland since October 2023, when Brussels decided to allow Ukrainian haulers to enter the EU without having to obtain permits.

Speaking to the Ukrainian TSN news channel, Podoliak dismissed the protests, insisting that the demonstrators were actually seeking to humiliate his country.

Seize frozen Russian assets in Navalny’s name – German MP

Legislation allowing such a move should be called “Navalny Laws,” Norbert Rottgen said.

Russia’s assets that remain frozen in the West should be confiscated in response to the death of opposition activist and anti-corruption campaigner Alexey Navalny, German parliament member Norbert Rottgen has said.

This money should be used to provide more arms to the Ukrainian military for use in the conflict with Russia, Rottgen suggested in his speech to the Bundestag on Wednesday.

Legislation that would allow the confiscation of an estimated $300 billion in assets owned by the Russian central bank, which were blocked by the US and the EU after the outbreak of the conflict between Moscow and Kiev in February 2022, should be named “Navalny Laws,” he added.

Kremlin reacts to Biden calling Putin a ‘crazy S.O.B.’

The US president has disgraced his country, spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said.

Americans should be ashamed of their leader after their president reportedly called Russia’s Vladimir Putin a “crazy S.O.B.” during a public event, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said. Joe Biden’s alleged name-calling occurred during a fundraiser on Wednesday.

According to US media, Biden singled out the Russian president while arguing that climate change was a worse threat for humanity than a nuclear conflict.

Officials in Washington have claimed that Putin resorted to “nuclear blackmail” when discussing the Ukraine conflict. Moscow has denied this characterization.

“This is a great disgrace for [the US],” Peskov said on Thursday, when asked about the reported incident. “If the president of that nation uses that kind of language, that is shameful.”

"It's a mess, I mean all created by Joe Biden and his blundering in foreign relations"

Sen. Tommy Tuberville criticized Biden's foreign policy at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), saying that Donald Trump will end the Ukraine conflict as soon as he "gets in."

“Donald Trump will stop it when he first gets in. He knows there’s no winning for Ukraine. He can work a deal with Putin,” he said.

Zelensky announced the preparation of a new counter-offensive.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated in an interview with Fox News that Kiev is preparing a new counter-offensive in the Black Sea and in the special military operation (SVO) zone .

“To continue our history in the Black Sea, we will do this. In summary: the south is very important. (...) protect the east,” explained the Ukrainian president.

Zelensky stressed that the new counteroffensive will greatly surprise Russia , for which the operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) will be a “surprise.”

Earlier, the United States announced the impossibility of Ukraine’s victory over Russia. The Ukrainian counteroffensive planned for last spring failed, support for Zelensky at home and in Washington declined, and the United States was tired of endlessly providing financial assistance to Kiev.

Europe has ‘dim, lackluster technocrats’ instead of strong leaders, Medvedev believes

The politician noted that the previous generation of European figures had had the inner strength to raise objections when issues had been important to their countries and this did not mean that they had taken Russia's side or abandoned any European ideals.

"In Europe, as I have said many times, all the true leaders are gone. A generation of dim, lackluster technocrats has arrived, who endorse only Euro-Atlantic ideals. Instead of dealing with their national problems, they follow instructions from Washington," he said.

Medvedev explained that there are exceptions among European leaders, such as Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, or Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, "but this only confirms the rule." "And all the rest are people who do not have their own position," the politician stated.

Hello everyone!

Michael Bzhishkyan, a migration lawyer from Moscow, is here again 😉

We are often approached with questions about property taxes in Russia🇷🇺

Our team has prepared several posts on this:
1 - property objects that fall under property tax;
2 - property tax on residential premises (house, flat);
3 - property tax on non-residential property (office, apartment, etc.);
4 - land tax rate in Russia;
5 - tax from the sale of real estate.

Question № 1:
Which items of property fall under property tax?

📝 Answer:

Property tax is payable if you own:
— residential property: a private house, flat or room;
— non-residential property: an apartment, office, warehouse, shop, car service station, etc.

Land also is also considered to be immovable property, but it is not subject to property tax. Owners of land pay land tax.

Question № 2:
What is the rate of property tax in Russia on a dwelling (house, flat)?
Are there differences in the rate for residents and non-residents?

📝 Answer
Property tax is a regional tax. Each region of the Russian Federation (and there are 89 of them as of February 2024) sets its own rates.

In general, property tax rates for flats and private houses are the same in different regions plus or minus. For reference, let's take the tax rates in the city of Moscow (the tax rate depends on the cadastral value*):
- up to 10 million Rubles. - 0,1%
- up to 20 million Rubles. - 0,15%
- up to 50 million Rubles. - 0,2%
- from 50 million Rubles to 300 million Rubles - 0,3%

*Cadastral value is the price of real estate, which is set by the state. On average, it is 60-70% of the market value of the property.

❗️ Important: the tax status of the payer does not affect the property tax rates. That is, the rates are the same for residents and non-residents.

For example: The cadastral value of your property is 25 million Rubles.
Property tax calculation: 25 million Rubles *0.2%=50000 Rubles per year.

Earlier, US National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby told reporters that the next package of anti-Russian restrictions, which the US administration was to announce on February 23, would be linked with the second anniversary of the start of the special military operation and the death of Navalny.

Kiev’s sponsors should hold ‘discreet’ talks with Moscow – Ukrainian ambassador

Engaging in such discussions wouldn’t mean that the West is giving up on its interests, Andrey Melnik said.

Kiev’s foreign backers should contact Russia behind the scenes to find out its conditions for peace with Ukraine, former Ukrainian ambassador to Germany Andrey Melnik, who now represents the country in Brazil, has said.

In an interview with the German newspaper Tagesspiegel, Melnik was asked to comment on a poll which revealed that, given the failure of Ukraine’s counteroffensive last year and gains by Russian forces in recent months, 64% of Germans now believe that Kiev has lost the conflict with Moscow.

Russia was ‘right’ to oppose weapons transfer to US – Ecuador

Quito was “surprised” that Washington openly admitted that the weapons would be given to Ukraine, President Daniel Noboa says.

Ecuador will not send any Soviet-era military equipment to the US over concerns that the weapons would be passed on to Ukraine, President Daniel Noboa has said. Moscow had protested against the weapons transfer scheme, saying Quito had no right to send hardware to a third country without Russia’s consent.

Noboa first announced plans to hand over its outdated Russian and Ukrainian military hardware to the US in exchange for American equipment to the tune of $200 million in early January, while dismissing Moscow’s protests on the matter. Back then the president claimed that the move did not violate existing treaties, which he said only applied only to military equipment, and not “scrap.”

EU state provided forged documents to murdered Russian traitor – media

Spain reportedly helped Maksim Kuzminov avoid detection after he betrayed his country.

Spanish authorities provided Russian helicopter pilot Maksim Kuzminov with a fake ID after he defected to Ukraine and sacrificed his fellow crew members, El Pais reported on Friday. Kuzminov was gunned down in the resort town of Villajoyosa last week.

Kuzminov hijacked an Mi-8 cargo helicopter last August and flew it to Ukraine, reportedly taking a  $500,000 reward from Kiev and dooming the craft’s two other crew members to being “liquidated.” After his betrayal, Kuzminov was settled on Spain’s Mediterranean coast, where he lived under a false identity.

Oh, now we know. A dog's death indeed.
