"It's not only about changing people's minds and changing the way people view women's breasts, [but] it's a protest about gender equality entirely," said Alice Lacroix from the "Liberez les Seins" ("Free the titties") movement said.
The protest was prompted by an incident in Quebec City, when a young woman, Eloyse Paquet Poisson, was hassled by police officers for sitting topless on a blanket in a park while smoking a cigarette. There is no law in Canada against a woman being topless in a park but the police were responding to a citizen complaint. However, they didn't fine Poisson.
