💧 What record-low water levels at the Hoover Dam reservoir look like from space
The US’ largest water reservoir, Lake Mead at the Hoover Dam, is in very, very bad shape. How bad is it? New satellite images from NASA show just how much the reservoir’s footprint has shrunk over the past two decades — and the difference between July 2000 and July 2022 is stark.
Water levels at Lake Mead are at a historic low — the reservoir hasn’t been this empty since 1937 when it was being filled for the first time. It’s currently at just 27% capacity. The dam typically provides power to 1.3 million people in Nevada, Arizona and California.
Last year, officials declared a water shortage there, marking the first time such a declaration had ever been made along the Colorado River system.

‼️US Delivery of New ‘Phoenix Ghost’ Drones to Ukraine to Begin in August - Defense Official
The United States will begin deliveries of the latest round of up to 580 Phoenix Ghost unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, to Ukraine starting in August, a senior Defense Department official said on Friday.
"With the Phoenix Ghost system, what we’ll be able to do is ensure steady deliveries of this capability starting in August to ensure that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have a continual supply of this capability," the official said.
Earlier in the day, National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby announced the delivery of the drones to Ukraine, explaining that it is part of the United States' latest $270 million security assistance package for that country.

🛢 Russian oil exports to Europe are being replaced by crude from the Middle East
Europe has imported more than 1 million barrels per day via the SuMed pipeline in the first three weeks of July, nearly double from a year ago. The volumes in the pipeline, which transits through Egypt, are mostly Saudi oil but also include Iraqi crude.
In addition, ships carrying another 1.2 million barrels a day from the Persian Gulf, mostly from Iraq, have gone through the Suez Canal to Europe. That means oil deliveries via pipeline and ship from the Middle East to Europe total 2.2 million barrels a day, up nearly 90% since January.
And as Saudi Arabia diverts more of its crude oil exports to Europe, it is sending less to top customers in Asia. In fact, China's imports of Saudi crude in June were down 30% compared to year-ago levels.
