🇷🇺 The Russian Foreign Ministry's Twitter account in English has been blocked since August 5, Maria Zakharova, the ministry's spokeswoman said

🗣 "On the night of August 5, the administration of the Twitter platform blocked the official account of the Foreign Ministry in English for 7 days. The reason is the publication of statements from the briefing of Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, the head of the radiation, chemical and biological defense of the Russian Armed Forces, about military biological activities of the United States," Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.

🔻 The US House Ways and Means Committee is legally able to receive information from Donald Trump’s tax returns as part of the congressional panel's probe into the former president’s finances.

The Ways and Means Committee requested information for several years of Trump’s personal and business tax returns in order to better understand the Presidential Audit Program run by the Internal Revenue Service. Trump unsuccessfully challenged the release of the returns by the Treasury Department, arguing that it violates the First Amendment of the US Constitution and the constitutional principle of separation of powers.

💾 Biden signs $280 billon act to boost US tech

President Joe Biden on Tuesday signed a $280 billion bipartisan bill to boost domestic high-tech manufacturing, part of his administration’s push to boost US competitiveness over China. The bill has been more than a year in the making, will incentivize investments in the American semiconductor industry in an effort to ease US reliance on overseas supply chains for critical, cutting-edge goods.

The White House sought Tuesday to begin selling the immediate impacts of the semiconductor measure, noting that Micron, a leading US chip manufacturer, will announce a $40 billion plan to boost domestic production of memory chips, while Qualcomm and GlobalFoundries will unveil a $4.2 billion expansion of an upstate New York chip plant.

🚨 Albuquerque police detain suspect in shootings of 4 Muslim Men

After a weekslong search that left the city’s Muslim community living in fear, Police Chief Harold Medina made the announcement on Tuesday that authorities had tracked down a vehicle believed to be involved in one of the slayings in New Mexico’s largest city.

Police initially said the same vehicle was suspected of being used in all four homicides — a dark gray or silver four-door Volkswagen that appeared to be a Jetta or Passat with dark tinted windows. Authorities released photos hoping people could help identify the car and offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Albuquerque authorities say they cannot determine if the slayings were hate crimes until they have identified a suspect and a motive. Few anti-Muslim hate crimes have been recorded in Albuquerque over the last five years, according to FBI.

🔋 Most electric vehicles won’t qualify for federal tax credit

A tax credit of up to $7,500 could be used to defray the cost of an electric vehicle under the Inflation Reduction Act now moving toward final approval in Congress. As of now, the alliance estimates that about 50 of the 72 electric, hydrogen or plug-in hybrid models that are sold in the US wouldn’t meet the requirements.

Under the $740 billion economic package, which passed the Senate over the weekend and is nearing approval in the House. For an EV buyer to qualify for the full credit, 40% of the metals used in a vehicle’s battery must come from North America. By 2027, that required threshold would reach 80%.

One component of the bill would require that after 2024, no vehicle would be eligible for the tax credit if its battery components came from China. Most vehicles now have some parts sourced in China and is the leader in production of lithium and other minerals that are used to produce EV batteries.

🚫 ‘Remain in Mexico’ policy is over

The Department of Homeland Security announced it ended a Trump-era policy requiring asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico for hearings in US immigration court, hours after a judge lifted an order in effect since December.

About 70,000 migrants were subject to the policy, known officially as “Migrant Protection Protocols,” from when former President Donald Trump introduced it in January 2019 until President Joe Biden suspended it on his first day in office in January 2021, effectively fulfilling a campaign promise.

Trump made the policy a centerpiece of border enforcement, which critics said was inhumane for exposing migrants to extreme violence in Mexico and making access to attorneys far more difficult.
