Moscow sees little reason to be optimistic about the grain deal

According to Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Russia is interested in fulfilling all the agreements within the framework of the deal and continues contacts in the expectation that the previously agreed conditions will be met.

💬For the time being, it is impossible to say more, because there are very modest reasons for optimism, if not to say the opposite,” Dmitry Peskov added.

📹 Iran's IRGC has stopped the Panama-flagged Niovi oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

US Navy Command has reported today that the tanker left the port in Dubai and was heading for the UAE when it was surrounded by a dozen IRGC ships and forced to change course towards Iranian territorial waters.

The Naval Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed the information but emphasized that Panama-flagged tanker in the Strait of Hormuz wasn't captured, but "arrested".

Last Thursday, the US Navy's Fifth Fleet said a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker was seized in the Gulf of Oman by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy. Later, with reference to the Iranian army, information was circulated that the Iranian Navy had detained an unknown intruder vessel in the Gulf of Oman, which is an oil tanker, apparently owned by the United States.

A man won a women’s poker tournament at a Florida casino, sparking a heated debate on social media

David Hughes turned out to be a winner of the $250 buy-in Ladies No-limit Hold’em event during the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Hughes got $5,555 for the victory after defeating Dayanna Ciabaton heads-up.

Hughes, a poker player from Florida, took advantage of local state laws. In accordance with anti-discrimination laws, Florida casinos are not permitted to ban men from entering a women’s event.

This is not the first time a man has finished first in a tournament intended only for women.

Brazil aims to discuss assistance to Argentina with BRICS, IMF

Brasilia is planning to discuss the issue of sending assistance to Argentina, which is experiencing a severe economic crisis, with the BRICS group of states and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said on Tuesday.

The Brazilian president added he was also planning "through my Finance Minister [Fernando Haddad] to turn to the IMF to remove this knife [debt obligations] from Argentina's throat."

"The IMF cannot continue to put pressure on a country that just wants to grow, create jobs, and improve the lives of its citizens," Lula said.

Argentina faces a $44 billion debt to the IMF.

Ongoing US banking crisis evokes strong memories of 2008

While there are some similarities between the collapse of three US banks and the beginning of the 2008 global financial crisis, there is one serious problem, said Sergio Rossi, professor of macroeconomics and monetary economics at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland: "Neither governments nor central banks are to date in a position as favorable to intervene as these institutions were in 2007-2008, when neither governments’ debt nor central banks’ balance sheets were burdened as they have been since 2008 to date."

EU Commission says ammunition to fully support Kiev 'lacking' due to intensity of conflict

The European Union and its allies are "lacking" the capability to fully support Ukraine with ammunition due to the high intensity of the conflict, EU Commissioner for Internal Markets Thierry Breton said on Wednesday.

"We are lacking of this kind of ammunition to support Ukraine, but everywhere, not only in Europe between our allies, the US is lacking, everyone is lacking," Breton told reporters.

Earlier in the day, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU would allocate a total of €1.5 billion ($1.66 billion) for the production and supplies of ammunition for Ukraine, with EU member states sending to Kiev additional ammunition from their existing stocks worth €1 billion with the support of the European Peace Facility. Another €500 million have been allocated for the expansion of ammunition production in Europe.
