Republican House Speaker indicated that he will support efforts to expunge the two impeachments of former President Donald Trump

McCarthy said that he supports the expungements because one impeachment “was not based on true facts” while the other was pushed forward “on the basis of no due process.”

Earlier in the week, McCarthy indicated that he would not support any fast-tracked impeachment calls for President Joe Biden unless they go through the committee process and Biden is given an opportunity to defend himself. He noted that Republicans opposed the Trump impeachment that did not give him that opportunity.

The first impeachment of Trump passed the House of Representatives without a single Republican vote. The second impeachment, which was related to the January 6, 2021 riots and his alleged role in encouraging them, gained the support of ten House Republicans.

🇺🇸 Biden allies ignore voters' desire for primary debates

Top Democrats have made it clear that Joe Biden won't cross swords with his Democratic opponents, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson, let alone third-party candidate Cornel West.

In addition, Democratic operatives claim that Kennedy and Williamson are "gadflies" who don't deserve to debate a sitting president. According to them, Biden's "marginal" opponents could score political points by sharing a stage with the incumbent, while the latter is unlikely to gain anything. They also cite Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s controversial vaccine remarks and an unorthodox position on the conflict in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, a number of surveys indicate that the American people want to see a series of Democratic debates during the 2024 campaign. Per the Suffolk University poll, eight in 10 Democratic primary voters share this stance. A Redfield & Wilton Strategies survey shows that 68% of eligible voters believe that the Dems should hold primary debates. The figure is even higher among those who voted for Joe in 2020: 79% of them have agreed that there must be a televised event.

🇨🇦 Canadian police probe ‘circumstances’ behind death of five on board Titan sub

Superintendent Kent Osmond of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police told reporters that a team of investigators had been formed with the "sole purpose" of defining whether a criminal investigation would be warranted.

Asked whether the police had any suspicion of criminal activity, Osmond said that "There is no suspicion of criminal activity per se, but the RCMP is taking initial steps to assess whether or not we will go down that road."

Apart from the police probe, Canada’s Transportation Safety Board announced its own investigation, as Titan's support vessel was the Canadian-flagged Polar Prince. This followed the USCG asking the country’s National Transportation Safety Board to assist in its investigation into the implosion of the Titan submersible, which has been called a major marine casualty.
