Veteran Russian military observer Viktor Murakhovsky told Sputnik that Putin's comments probably referred to lasers and other high-energy physics-based weapons.

💬 "The advantage of laser weapons is clear: they destroy their target instantly. But the disadvantages, especially in field applications, are very great. It's necessary, in effect, to build a separate electrical generator for ground-based systems," he said.

🇷🇺🇰🇵 Vladimir Putin presented Kim Jong Un with a glove from a spacesuit that had been in space and a domestically produced carbine rifle, Kremlin spokesman Peskov said.

In response, the Korean leader also presented a carbine - created by Korean craftsmen. The presidential press secretary noted these were not the only gifts leaders's made for each other.

Putin accepted Kim Jong Un’s invitation to visit North Korea 'with gratitude', Peskov added.

🗣️ On the ineffectiveness of anti-Russian sanctions:

"The assumption in the West was that it [Russia] did not have a high tech base. So as was said by the German foreign minister, I believe, Russia would be scrounging washing machines imported from Germany to get the chips for its military capacity. These kinds of absurdities were part of the mythology, and Russia's high tech capacities were clearly constantly neglected and discounted... This was going to "be it". This was somehow so dramatic, it would decisively end the conflict. Yeah, completely naive," Jeffrey Sachs, a Columbia University economist, told Sputnik.

The Russian MoD has issued the following statements on the Ukraine crisis:

▪️ The Russian Armed Forces have repelled eight enemy attacks in the DPR. They have inflicted around 350 casualties on the Ukrainian troops and destroyed three armoured fighting vehicles, five motor vehicles, three US-made M777 and M109 howitzers, and one D-30 howitzer.

▪️ The Russian Armed Forces have repelled three Ukrainian attacks in the Zaporozhye region. They have neutralised up to 95 Ukrainian personnel, one tank, two armoured fighting vehicles, and three motor vehicles. They have also wiped out US-made M777 and M119 artillery howitzers, one UK-made FH-70 howitzer, one Msta-B howitzer, one D-20 and one D-30 howitzers in counter-battery warfare.

▪️ The Russian Army has repelled one enemy attack in southern Donetsk. They have neutralised up to 140 Ukrainian personnel, one tank, two armoured fighting vehicles, and three motor vehicles.

▪️ The Russian Armed Forces have repelled one Ukrainian attack in the LPR. They have destroyed up to 55 Ukrainian troops, three armoured fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, and one D-20 howitzer.

▪️ In the Kherson direction, they have neutralised up to 70 Ukrainian troops, one armoured fighting vehicle, seven motor vehicles, and one D-30 howitzer by fire.

▪️ The fighter aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces has shot down one Mi-8 helicopter of the Ukrainian Air Force near Krasny Liman.

▪️ The Russian air defence units have intercepted four HIMARS MLRS projectiles during the day.

▪️ During the special military operation, they have destroyed 467 airplanes and 249 helicopters, 6,759 unmanned aerial vehicles, 437 air defence missile systems, 11,826 tanks and other armoured combat vehicles, 1,150 combat vehicles equipped with MLRS, 6,374 field artillery cannons and mortars, and 12,982 units of special military equipment.

Russia declares 2 employees of US Embassy personae non gratae

According to the statement, US ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy was summoned to the ministry on Thursday to receive a strong demarche over actions of Jeffrey Sillin and David Bernstein, the first and the second secretaries of the embassy, which are “incompatible with the diplomatic status.”

🗣 “These persons [Sillin and Berstein] carried out illegal activities by maintaining contact with Russian citizen [Robert] Shonov, accused of ‘confidential cooperation’ with a foreign state. [Shonov] was given tasks with the goal of harming the national security of the Russian Federation for financial compensation. The US ambassador was informed that J. Sillin and D. Bernstein must leave Russian territory within 7 days in the status of persona non grata,” the ministry said.

Moscow has demanded that Kishinev cease politically motivated persecution of Russian-language media resources and observe international obligations in the field of freedom of speech and media after Moldova expelled the head of the Sputnik desk in Moldova, Vitaly Denisov, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

🗣 "The Russian side regarded this step as part of the anti-Russian campaign officially launched by Kishinev. They demanded that the Moldovan side stop the politically motivated persecution of Russian-language media resources and comply with international obligations in the field of freedom of speech and media and ensuring the rights of journalists," the foreign ministry said in a statement.
