MiG-31 shuts down Ukrainian economy by simply taking off

Russia’s MiG-31 supersonic fighter jets have proven highly disruptive for the Ukrainian economy, shutting down a large part of the nation’s business every time it takes to the skies, the National Interest reports.

The reason behind this dread is that the warplanes armed with state-of-art hypersonic Kinzhal missiles pose a serious threat to the country's air defense systems. Furthermore, the aircraft has maintained a "certain mystique" in the West due to its unique combat capabilities, according to the media.

During drills held in October, the MiG-31 was spotted operating in the stratosphere over the Barents Sea. The plane soared to an altitude of over 11,000 meters to intercept a hypothetical intruder. Therefore, it's hardly surprising that the warplane strikes fear into the Ukrainian military.

🇮🇱 The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claim to have discovered "the largest Hamas tunnel" in the Gaza Strip at four kilometers long

The tunnel is purportedly wide enough for a large vehicle to pass through. It reaches a depth of up to 50 meters underground and is equipped with electricity, ventilation and a communications system, the IDF said.

It reportedly does not cross Israeli territory, but ends 400 meters before the now-closed Erez checkpoint on Gaza's northern border with Israel, according to the IDF.

The ammunition is designed by the Tula Cartridge Plant. According to the denoscription of the invention, the intermediate cartridge is designed to defeat the enemy, including lightly armored vehicles.

The material says that the length of the cartridge will be from 55 to 63 mm. The bullet with an armor-piercing core received an elongated, streamlined shape, and the cartridge case became bottle-shaped.

The developers expect that it will have improved external ballistic characteristics and penetration range compared to the 5.45 mm cartridge, but at the same time, the recoil, dimensions and weight of the weapon used will be less than in the case of the 7.62 mm.

🇵🇱🇰🇷 Poland has received 18 South Korea-made K-9A1 self-propelled howitzers, the Polish Defense Ministry's Armament Policy Department announced.

Polish government is actively building up national military power amid fears of a possible conflict with Russia. Warsaw plans to recruit thousands of soldiers and revamp old equipment with newly purchased replacements from American and South Korean defense companies.

Poland will soon have 66 K9 Thunder howitzers, produced by the Hanwha Defense company, at its disposal.

"Today a shipment of 18 brand new K9A1 self-propelled howitzers arrived at the port of Gdynia," the agency wrote on X.

Poland is actively cooperating with South Korea in the military sphere, with the countries signing various arms deals in 2022-2023. Under these contracts, the Polish side will receive a total of 1,000 tanks, 600 howitzers, over 280 K239 Chunmoo rocket artillery systems and 48 FA-50 fighter jets.
