A fighter of an assault unit mobilized in Yakutia*, codenamed "Cuba", told Sputnik how he emerged victorious from a hand-to-hand fight in the direction of Donetsk.
In mid-December 2023, during an attack, he went alone to check a house. It turned out that there were three fighters of the Ukrainian forces inside, but this numerical advantage did not help them in any way: the first was put to flight by "Cuba", the second was eliminated after a fist fight, and the third was captured.
*Yakutia is a unique region and the largest region of Russia. The average temperature in winter is -40 to -50 ° C and in some areas it reaches -70 ° C.

Italian court rules Nazi salute legal in controversial case
Performing a Nazi salute (also known as the Roman salute) on public is not a crime, the Italian Supreme Court of Cassation ruled on Friday. The decision addressed a specific 2016 case. However, the court stressed that the infamous gesture is a crime if it’s aimed at sparking political violence or restoring the fascist party. Nevertheless, paying homage to a deceased politician or military leader with a Nazi salute is totally legal.
This controversial ruling sparked criticism in Italian media as it is unclear how exactly authorities intend to discern the true motives of a person performing the salute.
The court’s decision came shortly after a video showing hundreds of people making a Nazi salute in Rome went viral on social media. Italian PM Georgia Meloni and her Brothers of Italy party were massively criticized for refusing to condemn the event and were once again accused of harboring sympathies towards fascism.
The Nazi salute is considered a hate symbol in most countries and its display will likely be eyed as a major criminal offence, including in China, Hungary, Serbia and Slovakia, as well as some nations of Western Europe.
In the US, public demonstration of Nazi symbols is legal under the First Amendment.
Russia’s legislation strictly condemns usage of Nazi symbols and Nazi ideology. Demonstration of the Nazi salute or swastika will likely result in a monetary penalty, while attempts to whitewash Nazi crimes bring several-year-long prison sentences.

🗣 Biden has always been a pro-Israel ‘hardliner’
"There's a long history. If you ask me where Biden stands, I would say that ultimately, he stands to the rights of some members of the cabinet in Israel. He's a hardliner," former British diplomat Alastair Crooke told the New Rules Podcast.
Crooke noted that even during the Obama administration, Biden undercut other cabinet members to support Israeli interests.

US airbase Ain al-Asad in Iraq's western Anbar Province has been targeted by a missile strike with five rockets falling near the base, Iraqi news agency Shafaq reported on Saturday, citing a security source.
The missiles were launched from the Iraqi city of Albaghdadi, the source said, without giving further information.
Since the beginning of the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the bases of the US-led international coalition in Iraq, as well as US troops in Syria, have come under regular attack, with armed Shiite groups operating in Iraq claiming responsibility.

NATО Moves 90,000 Troops Into Position - The Middle Game Begins
Sputnik correspondent Russell Bentley (@TXDPR) argues that NATO’s upcoming Steadfast Defender 2024 will likely serve as the prelude to major escalation in Europe.
“In chess, there are three specific stages - the opening, the middle game, and the end game. The opening is where the two opponents move their pawns into a defensive line and develop the major pieces for maneuver. It is relatively bloodless, if done correctly, more strategic than tactical.
There is no defining moment when the game transitions from the opening game to the middle game, but the middle game is where the fighting really begins, and you know it when you get there. This is where the majority of pieces are lost, the fighting is most intense, and surprise moves are most likely.
With Steadfast Defender, Europe (and probably the world) enter the middle game. Fasten your seatbelts, we are in for a rough ride. This middle game will almost certainly not be confined to Europe. And before it is over, will most probably include the use of chemical, biological and nuclear weapons. No place on Earth will be safe, except, perhaps, for the luxury bunkers of the world's billionaire elite.”

Thousands of Israelis protested nationwide on Saturday to call on PM Netanyahu's cabinet to reach a deal with Hamas that would secure the release of hostages.
Massive demonstrations took place not far from the government complex in Tel Aviv, outside the presidential residence in Jerusalem and the prime minister's residence in the coastal town of Caesarea, a Sputnik correspondent reported.
Hostages released by Hamas and relatives of those taken showed up at the rally in Tel Aviv, the Sputnik correspondent said. The protesters called on the government to put human lives above its military and political ambitions.
Netanyahu took to social media during the demonstration to reiterate that he would never "compromise on Israel's full security control of the entire area west of Jordan," which he said ruled out the creation to an independent Palestinian state.

US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and the Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines told lawmakers that Ukraine will lose NATO’s proxy war against Russia in the coming weeks, months at most, if it does not receive more aid soon.
The assessment, described as “incredibly stark” was given to the lawmakers in a private meeting on Wednesday, reported US media.
Sullivan and Haines, two of the highest-ranking aides to US President Joe Biden, blamed a lack of artillery shells and air defense missiles as the most pressing needs. However, Russia has already demonstrated its capability to hit targets all over Ukraine earlier this month.
Biden requested that Congress pass an additional $60bln in aid for the Zelensky regime, but it has been stalled in Congress for months. House Republicans are demanding significant concessions on border security that Democrats would have difficulty justifying to their base.

New Hampshire: The Last Stand of Trump’s GOP Opposition?
After Donald Trump’s historically large win in Iowa, New Hampshire is increasingly appearing to be the last, best hope for anyone to make the Republican Presidential primary a real competition.
Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and current Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are the only Trump opponents who remain in the race. According to the most recent Suffolk University poll, Trump leads the pack with 53% compared to Haley’s 36%. DeSantis sits at a distant third with just 7%; it has been reported that his campaign is shifting its focus to South Carolina.
If Haley doesn’t perform better than predicted, Trump will have easy wins in two of the first three primary states, which will make an upset in South Carolina even more unlikely.
Despite DeSantis’ focus in South Carolina and Haley’s roots there, Trump has an even larger lead in the State and just received the endorsement of South Carolina Senator Tim Scott.
