A request for extradition of WW2-era SS member Yaroslav Hunka, who was applauded by the Canadian parliament, to Russia to face criminal responsibility for the genocide of Soviet citizens has been submitted to the relevant authorities of the country, Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov told Sputnik.

The Canadian authorities have assured that they will consider the extradition request, the Russian ambassador added.

The Canadian authorities will not be able to "wrap up" the shameful plot to honor the former SS man, as this issue is fundamental for Russia, Oleg Stepanov noted.
