Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will discuss the prospects of restoring peace in Ukraine with former US President Donald Trump during their meeting in Florida on Friday, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told RIA Novosti.

"One of the main points on the agenda between President Trump and Prime Minister Orban will definitely be how peace will return to Europe, especially to the central and eastern part of Europe," Szijjarto said. "What we definitely would like to discuss with him is how to make peace in Ukraine and in the eastern part of Europe."

Szijjarto emphasized that Orban's visit to the United States is not meant to sway US voters to lean toward electing Trump in the upcoming presidential election in November, but it highlights that US-Hungarian relations thrived during the Trump administration and there were no major wars around the world then.

"Without him [Trump] being elected, we see a much, much, much smaller hope for peace in the foreseeable future in Ukraine," Szijjarto said. "We understand we do not represent the majority in Europe with this position of ours, but still we are convinced of it."

Szijjarto said he believes the conflict in Ukraine could have been avoided and the current Gaza conflict would have been resolved quickly had Trump been reelected to the White House in 2020.

In addition, Szijjarto noted that Western efforts have failed to give Ukraine an advantage on the battlefield against Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has supported an initiative to create a grain exchange within the BRICS bloc and said speculative trading affects prices and consumers.

"Regarding an exchange, of course, you are absolutely right. All these exchange indices are formed either in the United States or in Europe, in Paris. I do not know, how much grain do the French produce? I think less than we do. And traditionally, stock the exchange index is formed there. Of course, this is unfair, because from here it affects pricing. Your idea is very good," Putin said at a meeting with representatives of the agricultural-industrial sector.

Since there are countries in BRICS that produce and buy grain, they might be interested in creating such an exchange, the president said.

"Especially since these things of a speculative nature, of course, affect consumers in the end. And this is a problem. And these are problems that all governments are trying to solve ... We will definitely work on your suggestion with our partners," Putin said.

Russia's share in the world grain market is approaching 25%, and every fourth tonne of grain is of Russian origin, Eduard Zernin, the head of the Russian Union of Grain Exporters, told the meeting.

"[She will be remembered for] taking Ukraine to the precipice of disappearing into an abyss, passing out cookies. But in terms of a legacy left, she's left no legacy. No positive legacy other than the one, known as the use of the F word," Larry Johnson, a retired CIA intelligence officer and State Department official, told Sputnik, recalling Nuland's role in the 2014 Euromaidan coup d'etat.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has announced that Nuland will step down in the coming weeks as Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs. Nuland's decision to retire was a bolt from the blue, according to the CIA veteran.

"This is completely unexpected," he said. "I think one explanation is that she's probably resigning in frustration over what she views as waning support of the rest of the Biden team for the Ukraine mission... I think she's acknowledging that the end is near with respect to Ukraine."

The last time Nuland was seen in Kiev was early February 2024, during the row between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and then- commander-in-chief General Valery Zaluzhny. Zelensky's purge of Ukraine's top brass failed to sove his problems: the nation's armed forces suffered defeats due to lack of manpower, shells, resolve and morale.

"Nuland didn't want to be standing around there when the loss comes in," Johnson concluded.

China’s 5% growth target ‘conservative’, impressive for developed economy

China’s GDP growth target of “about 5 percent” for 2024 is “fairly conservative” and definitely in the realm of possibility for achieving, Dr. John Gong, a professor of economics at the Beijing-based University of International Business and Economics, has told Sputnik, commenting on the development priorities outlined by Premier Li Qiang in a speech to the National People’s Congress.

China’s growth rate targets are all the more impressive, Gong said, given that the Asian nation’s economy is “increasingly looking like a ‘developed economy’, where normally a 4-5 percent growth rate is already a great achievement.”

On the tech and R&D front, where Li outlined a series of measures to stimulate growth, Gong said the prioritized commitment of resources to these “very critical areas” signals “that China doesn’t want” to fall behind the West, particularly amid “a fair amount of hi-tech choking and boycotting by Washington.”

On defense, which saw 7.2 percent bump in spending, Dr. Gong said it’s important to keep the PRC’s outlays in perspective compared to the United States, whose defense budget is approaching $900 billion compared to China’s $238 billion, even though China’s nominal GDP is approaching the US.

“In terms of where the defense budget will be spent, I would guess an increasing portion will be spent on emerging technologies in defense. The war in Ukraine tells a lot about what the future battlefield will look [like], and I am pretty sure PLA generals are keeping a close eye on what is happing in the Donbass and Zaporozhye,” Gong said.

NATO member states are still in agreement that the military alliance is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine, despite leaked audio of German military officials discussing a possible missile strike on the Crimean Bridge with a French fighter jet, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto told RIA Novosti.

"I'd like to say two things on that: first, that we have a decision in NATO in place, and this decision has not been questioned by anyone yet. This decision has been made a bit more than two years ago, and this decision says that NATO is not a party to this conflict," Szijjarto said, when asked about the leaked conversation.

Neither Germany nor France has challenged or requested a review of the NATO decision, Szijjarto said.

"Elon Musk is performing a service for the security state, not just on Twitter, but in every other company he owns," said the journalist. "He's implemented a social credit score on Twitter. There's a whole bunch of algorithms that determine your reach and your ability to get your word out, and all of them have to do with never saying anything out of line."

🇷🇺 Western intelligence is alarmed by the scale of the work of the Russian intelligence services following the leak of a recording of a conversation between German officers, the Financial Times reports.

The newspaper's sources believe the operations of Russian intelligence now may be even more serious than during the Cold War.

Despite criticism of his militaristic statements even from his European counterparts, French President Emmanuel Macron has backed a Czech plan to deliver hundreds of thousands of artillery shells to Ukraine from countries outside the European Union.

France will take part in the initiative, Macron said, without giving financial details, adding that the EU's European Peace Fund could be partly used to finance it. Earlier, a French official said no such mechanisms would be used.

🇷🇺🇨🇳 Russia, China plan on building lunar nuclear power plant

Russia and China are mulling jointly building a lunar nuclear power plant, said Yuri Borisov, the head of Russia’s space agency Roscosmos.

“At the turn of 2033-2035 we plan to deliver and install a power unit on the lunar surface together with our Chinese colleagues,” Borisov said.

▪️ The installation will be done in an automated mode, without the presence of humans, and the technology required for the construction of the lunar nuclear power plant is almost ready.

▪️ Russia is also working on building a nuclear-powered cargo spaceship, called the Zevs (Zeus).

In 2021, Russia and China presented a road map for building a scientific station on the Moon by the end of 2035. The project includes technical lunar rovers for research, a jumping robot, and several smart mini-rovers designed to explore the surface of Earth’s natural satellite.

The director general of Roscosmos emphasized that, “Of course, space should be free of nuclear weapons.”

This echoes what President Vladimir Putin reiterated at a meeting with the country's Security Council members on March 1, saying that Russia does not plan to deploy nuclear weapons in space.
