Trailblazers of space flight
Cosmonautics Day, also known as the International Day of Human Space Flight, is celebrated annually on April 12.
Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first person to travel into space aboard the Vostok spacecraft on April 12, 1961. The Soviet Air Force pilot completed a full orbit around Earth, his flight lasting 1 hour 48 minutes.
Valentina Tereshkova, the world's first female cosmonaut, set off into space on June 16, 1963, aboard the Vostok-6 spacecraft. She completed 48 orbits around the Earth.
Yet another milestone was reached by Alexey Leonov — the first person to ever walk in space. On March 18, 1965, the Russian cosmonaut exited the spacecraft through an airlock during the Voskhod 2 mission and maneuvered outside for 12 minutes and 9 seconds.

There will be no 'Ukrainian counteroffensive,’ as Ukraine teeters on brink of collapse – Ritter
There will be no “great Ukrainian counteroffensive,” as Russia has entirely “changed the game” on the battlefield, former UN weapons inspector Scott Ritter told Sputnik.
Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky dangles empty promises of a new counteroffensive simply to wangle more aid from Western patrons, the retired US Marine Corps intelligence officer said. He likened the two opposing sides in NATO’s ongoing proxy war against Russia in Ukraine to two “Jenga blocks.”
According to Ritter, Ukraine is “teetering on the brink of collapse. Not just militarily, but also economically, politically. Russia has taken apart the Kiev regime’s energy infrastructure, which spells an imminent collapse of the defense industries.”
He added that, “politically speaking, the world is tired of the Ukrainian conflict, tired of a nation that begs for more and more, but cannot produce any positive outcomes on the battlefield.”
He added that the Ukrainian “Jenga block” structure is "about to collapse, and that is going to happen sooner rather than later."

“What is going on between Russia and Ukraine today is that Russia is making Ukraine lose ‘Jenga blocks’ at a rate far greater than NATO can replace them. Ukraine’s ‘Jenga block’ structure is becoming weak, and may collapse at any moment,” he said.

Farmers have begun protesting in the central Polish city of Lodz. The protesters have brought large agricultural equipment, mostly tractors, into the city, blocking several major intersections.
"I am a farmer, not a slave," "Stop agricultural products from Ukraine," "No farmers. No food. No future," are some of the slogans of today's protests.
Many Poles are dissatisfied with the influx of agricultural goods from Ukraine, and also oppose the EU’s “Green Deal,” which in their opinion will become an additional burden for rural workers across the country.
