🇷🇺🪖 Find out what military equipment was displayed during Russia’s Victory Day parade
This year’s parade marks the 79th anniversary of the Soviet Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and 75 pieces of military equipment were trotted out for the public to see.
▪️ The Iskander-M, Russia's top-of-the-line mobile short-range ballistic missile system, is a prominent feature of the parade. These 3.4-ton vehicles are equipped with two tactical, nuclear-capable single-stage solid fuel missiles that have a range of 50-500 km.
▪️ The S-400 Triumph, Russia’s state-of-the-art air and missile defense system, can destroy aerial and ballistic targets at distances of up to 400 km.
▪️ The RS-24 Yars mobile ICBM complex is capable of carrying missiles that are 17.8 meters long and weigh 46 tons. These missiles can fly up to 12,000 km upon launch and are equipped with MIRV warheads of up to 500 kilotons each.
▪️ The parade customarily opens with a T-34, the renowned Soviet tank that played a crucial role in defeating the Wehrmacht and the Axis allies during WW2. Weighing between 26.5 to 31 tons, this tank is manned by a four-person crew and boasts sloped armor, an 85mm gun, and twin 7.62mm DT machine guns.

“This is a tribute to the Soviet pilots who fought the Nazis and gave us a peaceful sky over our heads. Three-time Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Kozhedub made 330 combat sorties and personally shot down 62 German airplanes – the most among pilots of the anti-Hitler coalition. Then he commanded a group of Soviet pilots who burned American Sabres [North American F-86 Sabre] in the skies of Korea. In the new camouflage for the Su-57, we have embodied the image of the legendary the Great Patriotic War machine flown by the renowned ace,” said Oleg Evtushenko, executive director of Rostec.

🇷🇺 Here are some serious armored vehicles that rolled across Red Square during Moscow’s Victory Day parade
In addition to ballistic missile systems and air defense complexes, Russia showcased a variety of armored vehicles, including both new additions and established models that have demonstrated their effectiveness in the special military operation.
🔺 Making its debut is the K-53949 Phoenix armored vehicle from the Typhoon family of AFVs. This 15-ton vehicle features metal-ceramic armor resistant to mines, shrapnel and armor-piercing incendiary bullets. The vehicle comes with a 7.6 mm Kalashnikov machine gun.
🔺 Another debutant will be the 4x4 Linza armored ambulance that’s equipped for a crew of between 3-5 people and has space for 4-6 wounded individuals.
🔺 The Tigr-M 4x4 infantry mobility vehicle has demonstrated its effectiveness within the special operation zone. Equipped with 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine guns or an AGS-17 Plamya grenade launcher, it was upgraded with a new P-230T mobile command over the course of the conflict.
🔺 Joining the pack will be the K-17 Boomerang, a 34-ton wheeled 8x8 IFV armed with a remote weapon station containing a 30-mm 2A42 autocannon, Kornet-EM anti-tank missiles, and a PKT 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun, ceramic armor and a turbocharged diesel engine that generates 510 hp and accelerates up to 100 km/h.
🔺 BTR-82A APCs, 15.4-ton amphibious vehicles with a standard 30mm main gun and 7.62mm machine gun, have been spotted in the conflict zone with makeshift modifications, including ‘cope cages’ to protect against drones.
🔺 VPK-Ural armored cars, 14.5 ton vehicles with 360 horsepower engines and a top speed of up to 100 km/h, can be fitted with an array of weapons, including 12.7 mm Kord machine gun.
🔺 Also on the list is Russia’s Z-STS Akhmat armored vehicles that feature a Kamaz-5350 three-axle all-wheel drive chassis with enhanced armored protection.

‘Very symbolic’ Victory Day parade signaled Russia’s strength, ability to oppose 'Western exceptionalism'
“The parade was obviously very symbolic. President Putin made a lot of links between the past and the present,” Alexander Hill, a professor of military history at the University of Calgary in Canada, told Sputnik, commenting on Thursday’s solemn festivities dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War.
“Obviously these parades have always been sending a reminder to the West about Russian and Soviet military strength. Today I thought it was quite significant that Yars ICBMs were fairly prominent in the parade as well as the Iskander-M missiles,” Hill said. The latter has proven “very effective” over the course of the conflict in Ukraine, the professor noted, adding that he hopes that the former “will never be used.”
The parade also sent a message “that the West shouldn't interfere in matters that Putin considers primarily Russian,” according to the observer. “He talked a lot about being against ‘Western exceptionalism’ and, of course, noted Western hypocrisy, although I thought it was a nice touch, actually, that he said quite recently that he's leaving the door open to negotiations as long as Russia is treated as an equal.”
Pointing out that this year’s parade took place amid the ongoing proxy conflict with NATO in Ukraine, and unusually chilly and snowy spring weather, Hill said that the weather reminded him of the parade held on November 7, 1941, during the Great Patriotic War – after which many of its participants were sent directly to the front.

💊 Mobile doctor: What to know about Russia’s Linza protected field ambulance
The K-53949 Linza (lit. ‘Lens’) armored ambulance made its first-ever public appearance at the Victory Day Parade in Moscow on Thursday. The unique vehicle has proven a lifesaver for Russian forces taking part in the special military operation.
Here’s what we know about it:
🔸 The Linza is a 4x4 all-terrain vehicle derived from the heavily customizable Typhoon family of Russian mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) armored vehicles.
🔸 The Linza completed testing and began joining the armed forces in 2021, and were deployed in the special military operation from its earliest days.
🔸 Protection characteristics of the vehicle proved to be exceptional, defending against 7.62 mm armor-piercing bullet small arms fire and shell and bomb shrapnel. In one reported instance from July 2022, a Linza crew survived a strike by fragments of a 155 mm shell that exploded two meters from the vehicle, but failed to penetrate its interior.
🔸 The Linza’s high level of protection is achieved through a blend of armored steel and ceramic elements, and V-shaped bottom for mine and IED protection. The vehicle is designed to be able to limp along 50 km over rough terrain even if one of its wheels is damaged.
🔸 The Linza has a 15+ ton curb weight, and the capacity to carry 1,080 kg of cargo, including up to four wounded troops on stretchers, or six seated. It is crewed by 3-5 people, depending on modification (ZTA-T or ZTA-P). The latter cuts interior space and replaces it with equipment used by combat medics.
🔸 The vehicle is powered by a Kamaz engine making 350+ horsepower, has a top speed of up to 105 km/h, and a cruising range of 1,000 km on a single fuel up. It has a 9-speed mechanical transmission and independent spring suspension.
🔸 The Linza is designed to operate in difficult conditions, including mud and snow, and can ford rivers and water obstacles
