Russia has no plans to take Kharkov, Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated
"As for what is happening in the Kharkov region, this is also [the Ukrainians'] fault, because they shelled and continue, unfortunately, to shell residential neighborhoods in border areas, including [Russia's city of] Belgorod," Putin said at a press conference in Harbin, China. "That's where civilians are dying. Everything is obvious here. They shoot directly at the city center, at residential neighborhoods."
If such actions continue, Russia will be forced to create a security zone, a sanitary zone, the Russian president stressed.

The petrodollar ‘dam show signs of cracking’
“A lot of other countries are… starting to believe that a world of trade dispensable with the dollar is indeed possible,” Dr John Gong, professor of economics at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing told Sputnik.
He noted that “this is particularly important for trade in oil... We all know this concept called petrodollar. But I think we're starting to see this dam show signs of cracking. Saudi Arabia is starting to use other currencies with China in trading oil.”
China was also keen to push the internationalization of its currency the yuan, said Dr Gong.

“Within the BRICS bloc, there is an active working group exploring technical work about trading with another currency,” he explained. “Also, I would point to another example, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority is experimenting with some kind of a mechanism, with a digital currency mechanism, in collaboration with the Thailand Monetary Authority, with… the United Arab Emirates Monetary Authority.”

🗣 The legitimacy of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky matters to Russia, and the fateful documents should be signed with legitimate authorities, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a news conference in China.
He said the Russian side had previously been “in constant contact with the Ukrainian leader before the conflict turned into the acute phase of armed struggle.”

UK Royal Navy touts plans for ‘golden age’ of shipbuilding amid shrinking fleet's setbacks
Shipyards across Britain are preparing for a frenzy of activity as Defense Minister Grant Shapps advertises a new “golden age” of shipbuilding. The Royal Navy is planning to acquire 28 new ships to “turn the tide on a shrinking fleet,” Shapps noted at the Sea Power conference in London.
The Royal Marines will be boosted with up to six new multirole support ships. The versatile vessels are to replace all of the Royal Navy’s current amphibious support ships by the early 2030s. New Type 26 and 31 frigates will feature land-attack capabilities, and Astute and Dreadnought submarines will be domestically constructed, a news release added.
The “golden age” looks more like copper, however, as the Royal Navy has proved to be so unreliable that the UK did not participate in recent NATO drills:
▪️ HMS Prince of Wales has languished in dock undergoing repairs more often than being at sea since its commission in 2019. In 2020, the carrier suffered a leak in the engine room, followed by the collapse of an accommodation block.
▪️ In 2022, HMS Prince of Wales had to be towed back to Portsmouth harbor after halting off the Isle of Wight – on the very first day of its trip for drills with the US and Canada.
▪️ Royal Navy flagship HMS Queen Elizabeth had to pull out from major NATO drill Exercise Steadfast Defender in February 2024 after a coupling on the vessel’s 33-ton starboard propeller malfunctioned.
▪️ HMS Prince of Wales was to stand in for its sister vessel in the war games, but its departure was delayed by technical issues.
▪️ A fire broke out on board HMS Queen Elizabeth in March 2024 as it was docked in Argyll and Bute.
▪️ Two Royal Navy minehunter ships collided at a port in Bahrain during docking in January 2022. Scenes of the embarrassing mishap involving HMS Chiddingfold and HMS Bangor flooded the Internet.

❗️MERC EXPOSED: Ex-US marine's death in Ukraine kept under wraps by Kiev in bid to hide huge losses near Kharkov
Former US Marine Collin Teem, who later became a mercenary with the GUR International Legion, was recently confirmed to have been neutralized near Kharkov, as reported by Sputnik.
◾️A German blogger who was gathering military aid for Ukrainian Main Intelligence Directorate units was the first to report Teem's death (photo 1). Subsequently, Teem's brother also confirmed his passing on May 13th (photo 2), as did one of his friends (photo 3).
◾️Originally from California, Collin Teem served as a US Marine before joining the 'Rogue Team' group in 2023, which is part of The International Legion of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, also known as the GUR Legion (photos 4, 5, 6).
◾️According to the Rogue Team's social media account, the unit mostly consists of US Marines and soldiers (photo 7). The mercenary outfit also collaborates with other GUR Legion groups.
◾️The latest video released by Budanov, the head of GUR's mercenary Legion, shows that its units are operating in the Kharkov region. This implies that in recent days, the 'Rogue' team has also been stationed in this area (photo 8).
◾️It is interesting to note that neither the 'Rogue' mercenaries nor the unit, nor the official social network of the GUR Legion, have reported the death of Collin Teem. This could be because the Ukrainians are covering up their losses near Kharkov due to the advancing Russian forces.

The expanded technological partnership with China proposed by President Putin, and the complementary nature of Russian-Chinese economic potential make the two countries impervious to whatever economic bullying the US and its allies manage to think up, says Jeff Brown, a veteran China expert and author.
“China could play to Russia’s strengths, and the list is long: nuclear energy, arms, aerospace, machinery, petrochemical, metallurgy, plant breeding and agriculture for starters. As well, China is tops in supercomputers, robots, 5G-6G, supply chains and logistics, which all complement the aforementioned... They each have unique advantages in medicine and pharma. China’s top high-tech schools (Tsinghua, Peking, Shanghai Jiao Tong, Fudan, USTC, etc.) could build campuses in Russia, with a strong focus on R&D. Both countries need to get much better at AI and microchips, so finding mutual synergies would be beneficial to both sides,” Brown told Sputnik.
“All of these possibilities would go great lengths to help each country individually and together, as Western empire desperately throws NATO and every boycott, blockade, tariff and sanction it can at both countries,” Brown emphasized.

US ‘Emperor’ has no clothes: Competing Russian, US approaches to Chinese tech reveal American weakness
“China is providing its high-tech platform to Russia because, China is more advanced in in high tech fields,” Angelo Giuliano, a Hong Kong-based political and financial analyst, told Sputnik, commenting on President Putin’s invitation to Chinese companies to set up production in Russia, as the US seeks to clamp down on Beijing’s high tech aspirations via exorbitant new tariffs.
The US, on the other hand, “is very scared” of the China’s potential “because in reality Chinese development, especially in high tech - is exponential. The reason is very simple. It is because China has five to six times more science, technology, math-engineering graduates that come out of universities every year, and they are actually investing a lot of money into R&D, which the US is not,” the observer said.

“So China could compensate for whatever Russia is missing in its economy. On the other side, Russia is providing energy resources like gas, oil and raw materials and agricultural to China, so in exchange China is providing access to high tech consumer products,” Giuliano explained.
