🇲🇽🇳🇮 Mexico and Nicaragua will not participate in the Ukraine conference in Switzerland, the Russian newspaper Izvestiya reported.

“Mexico will not attend the event. Our country is in favor of peace, so we expect that there will soon be an opportunity to hold talks in which both sides of the conflict will participate,” the Mexican embassy in Russia told the newspaper.

Nicaragua called the conference in Switzerland on Ukraine a “political farce” and also refused to attend.

“Nicaragua has never participated and will not participate in this political farce, which has no goal of finding a path to peace, but only the goal of presenting Russia with yet another ultimatum,” the foreign ministry of the Latin American country said.

Argentine President Javier Milei will also not participate in the conference as he would like to be in Argentina for national holidays on June 17 and 20, Argentine newspaper La Nacion reported.

Radical center on way out as Europeans chafe over lack of “ideological flexibility”

Although figures like French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have won plaudits from mainstream media and establishment interests, they are increasingly unpopular among the European public noted Dr. George Szamuely, a senior research fellow at London’s Global Policy Institute.

“They don't seem to have the ideological flexibility to realize how unpopular their policies are,” said the commentator on Sputnik’s The Final Countdown program. “So, they continue tanking in the polls, but they don't seem to make any adjustments.”

Szamuely specifically identified such politicians’ apparent support for “waging indefinite war in Ukraine,” which he pointed out was “clearly very unpopular in Europe.”

Massive farmers’ protests have been driven by a rejection of free-trade policies intended to boost Ukrainian agricultural imports. The Ukraine conflict more broadly is a matter of controversy for many Europeans, Szamuely noted, blaming “the kind of centrist liberalism which has been the dominant ideology over the past 10 years or so, as represented by seeing Macron in France and Olaf Scholz in Germany.”

“Macron has been historically unpopular now for several years,” he said of the French President, who has repeatedly heightened tensions with Russia over the conflict with Ukraine. “He still keeps talking about waging indefinite war in Ukraine. Now, this is clearly very unpopular in Europe, certainly unpopular in France and yet he continues doing this.” A recent poll by the French newspaper Le Figaro found that 68% of French people disagreed with comments by Macron about the possibility of sending Western troops to fight in Ukraine.

“Similarly in Germany, when you enter this traffic light coalition – which is gung ho for this war in Ukraine – even though the German public really doesn't want to do it,” he continued. “The German public has made it absolutely clear in poll after poll that they don't want to get sucked into another war in the East. And yet it continues.”

Russia-Africa ties reemerge as world powers vie for influence

With Russia and the United States increasingly representing two distinct geopolitical poles, ties between Moscow and Africa are reemerging on the basis of voluntary partnership and respect for national sovereignty.

“It sounds to me like they're getting the band back together,” said Garland Nixon, cohost of Sputnik’s The Critical Hour program, noting Russian security agreements taking shape with Mali, Niger and the Central African Republic. “Russia's history and the Soviet Union's history during the Cold War in Africa is very rich, shall we say. As the US empire pushes a new Cold War narrative, it seems to me that this is the natural outcome of it.”

“There's obviously something to which you say,” responded author and researcher Dr. Gerald Horne, a professor of history at the University of Houston in Texas. Horne noted that many African countries face threats from jihadist movements funded by US Gulf allies. “Russia has to combat these same religious zealots oftentimes sponsored by US imperialism on their own soil. Not to mention in the vicinity – speaking of Syria, for example.”

Russian provision of financial aid and military support to anti-apartheid movements during the 20th century won the country goodwill throughout Africa, with many seeing Moscow as a benevolent counterweight to Western domination.

“South Africa faces a very difficult environment, not least because US imperialism is unhappy with South Africa, because it's bringing the case before the International Court of Justice against US ally Israel, because of South Africa's close alliance with Brazil, Russia, India, [and] China… the BRICS, for example,” said Horne.

‘Be strong and ready to suffer’: Alexander Dugin offers advice to Western dissidents

“I was a Soviet dissident and I know how hard it is to fight against the dictatorship. But in order to kill the great dragon, you need to be very strong and ready to suffer. Because without suffering, you could not achieve the real goal,” he told Sputnik on the sidelines of SPIEF 2024.

At the concluding press conference of SPIEF-2024, Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and responsible secretary of the organizing committee, stated:

America itself is stagnating and teetering on the brink of civil conflict. The collective West has entered a period of its own radical transformation. Chaos in the Western countries' system is escalating – this is dangerous!

❗️ EXCLUSIVE: UN's Srebrenica resolution ‘superficial’, imposed by international community - Milorad Dodik

The controversial resolution passed by the UN General Assembly that named July 11 as "International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica" is no more than a superficial document, Milorad Dodik, president of Republika Srpska, told Sputnik in an exclusive interview.

“It is only called a resolution to make it sound more serious and impressive, but in reality, it is an absolutely superficial document. It was imposed by the international community and is absolutely out of keeping with the law. This is a private act by people from Sarajevo, supported by New York, and it has nothing to do with reality," said Dodik.

He underscored that relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina were already difficult, but now they are more so than ever.

📹 EXCLUSIVE: Bosnia and Herzegovina's peaceful separation solution ‘in accordance with Dayton Peace Treaty’ - Milorad Dodik

The peaceful separation plan offered by Republika Srpska to its partners in Bosnia and Herzegovina is a solution that is “absolutely possible in accordance with the Dayton Peace Treaty,” Milorad Dodik, president of Republika Srpska, told Sputnik in an exclusive interview.

Only Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina are in a position to make initiatives and decisions on the matter, he noted, adding that, “until today, it was completely different. All the initiatives, and even meddling in the Dayton Treaty, were carried out by outside forces.”

US to roll out more ‘assertive’ nuclear strategy - report

The White House is about to roll out an amended, “more assertive” nuclear weapons strategy, the media outlet Semafor has reported.

Washington sees the need "to adopt a more competitive approach to non-proliferation and arms control" and "make certain adjustments to our posture and capabilities," the outlet cited a senior administration official as saying.

Specifically, the plans may refer to developing a new nuclear gravity bomb, as well as efforts to extend the life of several Ohio-class nuclear submarines, the report said.

The administration intends to consider how US nuclear forces may have to “evolve further” and will discuss work to ensure that key allies “have long-range strike capabilities and surveillance abilities,” the unnamed official added. The plans will reportedly be announced by the National Security Council’s Senior Director for Arms Control, Disarmament, and Nonproliferation Pranay Vaddi at an arms control conference on Friday.

The report pointed out that the New START Treaty is set to expire in 2026.

The New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) entered into force in 2011. Amid NATO's proxy war in Ukraine, Moscow suspended its participation in the accord in February 2023. At the time, President Vladimir Putin said that the US demanded that Russia unconditionally fulfill its obligations under the treaty while being arbitrary about its own obligations. In June, the US announced its "countermeasures" in response to Russia’s suspension of the treaty. Russia stated that it would continue to comply with quantitative restrictions and notifications, adding that it was open to dialogue on the issue.

Who’s Sergey Karaganov, today’s moderator of SPIEF's plenary session?

Sergey Karaganov is a Russian political scientist who heads the Council for Foreign and Defense Policy, Russia’s security analytical think tank. He specializes in Soviet/Russian foreign and defense policies, Russian-European security and economic interaction, and Russia’s pivot to the East.

Karaganov has spoken extensively on the escalating threat of a new global world war, especially in his article “How to Prevent World War Three.”

“The primary sources of this threat reside in the moral, political, intellectual, social, and economic multi-level crisis plaguing the bulk of the collective West, which has been imposing its interests and rules on the world over the past five centuries,” he noted.
