Serbia’s protests over mining concerns bear traces of ‘color revolution scenario’ - Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs A protest in Belgrade triggered by plans to open a mine for the extraction of jadarite, a mineral containing lithium, went beyond a simple…
President Vucic comments on protests against lithium mining in Serbia

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that the protests in Belgrade against lithium mining in the country took place without the use of force, unlike what happens in the West.

"I thank them [the security forces] for their patience, respect for all the rights of those who did not respect the rights of other people, unlike the way it happens in other parts of the world. The planned intervention was carried out without even a minimal use of force and I sincerely congratulate the police on this… I am happy that, despite the violence against citizens and the country as a whole, we reacted in such a restrained, peaceful and wise manner," Vucic said in his address to the people.

Serbian police lifted the blockade of two railway stations in the capital Belgrade on Sunday after protesters disrupted rail traffic during a rally against lithium mining, Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said.

"The Interior Ministry acted within the laws of the Republic of Serbia and its duties to ensure unrestricted railway communications," Dacic was quoted as saying by the Interior Ministry.

The minister vowed to hold those who committed criminal acts during the overnight protests accountable.

Serbs have been protesting against plans to mine and process a lithium-containing mineral in the west of the country. On July 19, Serbia signed a memorandum of understanding with the European Union on strategic partnership on raw materials, electric batteries, and e-vehicles.

Vucic said he expected at least six billion euros ($6.56 billion) in foreign direct investment from the lithium mining project, specifically from Germany. According to his calculations, if a full production cycle is created, the Serbian economy will grow by 16.4%.

Where does Israel get its weapons from?

US weapons shipments included at least 14,000 Mk84 2,000-pound bombs, 6,500 500-pound bombs, 3,000 Hellfire precision-guided air-to-ground missiles, 1,000 bunker-buster bombs and 2,600 air-dropped small-diameter bombs, according to news agency Reuters.

But what share of its arms does Israel get from its top ally? Who else chips in?

'Developed with NATO': expert weighs in on strategy and tactics of Ukraine's incursion into Russia’s Kursk

The strategy and tactics Ukraine has displayed in the course of its cross-border incursion into Russia’s Kursk region were developed with NATO, former US Deputy Under Secretary of Defense Stephen Bryen has speculated.

The Kiev regime’s gamble is “a test case for the defense of Europe in case of a Russian attack,” claimed the expert on security strategy and technology in his Weapons and Strategy Substack.

“NATO, in its present configuration, is in a bad place when it comes to defending territory. If fighting were to break out in Poland, or Romania, or north in the Baltics, the Russians would have a significant advantage in ground forces. One way to counter that would be exactly the kind of operation Ukraine is testing right now in the Kursk region,” Bryen wrote.

Bryen noted that the Kiev regime’s operation comes as Ukraine’s ability to resist Russian forces on the front line is “at a dead end.” Amid combat losses and manpower shortages, the attack on the Kursk region can be seen as “a gamble for Ukraine to have leverage with Russia in a peace negotiation,” noted the author.

“While the operation is military, the hoped-for outcome is political. There is no doubt it is a big gamble,” he added.

Russia’s military is continuing to repel the attempted invasion of the country’s territory by Ukrainian forces launched on August 6 and slammed by Russian President Vladimir Putin as a large-scale provocation.

Ukraine-supporting German columnist asks what’s the point of Kursk offensive

Julian Röpcke, a military columnist for the German Bild newspaper, questions the point of Ukraine attacking Russia's Kursk region.

"Despite all the euphoria, I still don't understand the Ukrainian strategy," he wrote on X.

Röpcke, a cheerleader for NATO proxy-war in Ukraine against Russia, voiced his doubts about Volodymyr Zelensky’s latest gamble.

He asked why, if Ukraine really has 5,000 fresh soldiers and equipment, they were not breaking through the Russian front in regions like Kharkov, Lugansk, Donetsk, or Zaporozhye, arguing that Ukraine would inevitably have to retreat from Russian territory.

"In any case, I am very curious to see how long the Ukrainian army plans to stay in Russia and how this will affect the liberation of Ukrainian territories," Röpcke added.

Russia’s Kursk region, which borders Ukraine in the west, was attacked by about 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers and scores of armored vehicles on August 6. Russian forces stopped the Ukrainian troops from penetrating deep into the territory and continue to repel Ukraine's attempts to invade.

Ukraine has already lost over 1,300 servicemen and pieces of heavy equipment, including 29 tanks, 23 armored personnel carriers, nine infantry fighting vehicles and 116 other armored vehicles during the fighting on the Kursk front so far.

Which militant groups and armies have hit Israel since October 2023?

▪️ The IRGC. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) is an elite component of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. For the first time in history it attacked Israeli territory with hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles on the night of April 13. The entire territory of Israel was under air raid alert. According to Iranian officials, the barrage was in response to the Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.

▪️ Ansar Allah. The Yemeni movement, known as the Houthis, have attacked the southern Israeli port of Eilat several times with drones since November 2023. At the same time, Ansar Allah is blockading commercial shipping ships heading to and from Eilat through the Red Sea. This has caused significant economic damage to Israel and its allies.

▪️ Hezbollah. Based in southern Lebanon, the movement has been actively involved in hostilities against Israel since October 2023. Hezbollah has lanched rocket and artillery strikes into the northern areas of Israel. On the night of the Iranian operation, the IRGC was also supported by the movement's missile strikes on Israeli Galilee region.

▪️ Kataib Hezbollah and Hashd al-Shaabi. Both these Iraqi military groups are part of the 'Axis of Resistance'. Since October 2023, the two groups have regularly launched drones towards southern regions of Israel. They also supported Iran's attack on Israel at the weekend.

▪️ Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ). On October 7, the two Palestinian militant groups attacked Israeli territories near the Gaza Strip, killing about a thousand people and taking 253 prisoners. This was the beginning of the current clashes in Gaza.

How Mackinder's Heartland theory of geopolitics helps explain Bangladeshi PM Hasina's ouster

“The United States wants to turn Bangladesh’s Saint Martin Island into another Okinawa. Sheikh Hasina said no, so she had to be deposed with a classic color revolution [using] paid-for astroturf protests organized out of the US Embassy and the usual gang of Soros NGOs,” international affairs observer Jeff Brown told Sputnik, commenting on the bombshell letter by Hasina published Sunday revealing that the US would have allowed her to stay in power if she had surrendered sovereignty over St. Martin Island.

“With the West’s Muhammad Yunus being put in charge after the overthrow, NATO will surely get control of Saint Martin Island. This would be an important strategic coup for the West to have a permanent presence in the Bay of Bengal and by extension the Indian Ocean and the Malacca Strait,” Brown explained.

NATO control of the Bangladeshi island also means the alliance “can keep tabs on pro-China Myanmar, bring in all kinds of chaos there, stirring up the Rohingya Muslims there (which Hasina was trying to defuse),” the observer added.

“It would give leverage with India for the Quad. Sri Lanka, Thailand and Malaysia are all right there and work well with China…NATO in Diego Garcia is quite far away in the Indian Ocean. Saint Martin is prime geopolitical real estate to help NATO encircle the World Island,” Brown added, referring to Halford John Mackinder’s influential 1904 treatise, which deems that whoever controls the “Heartland” of Eurasia effectively controls much of the world.

“NATO has lost Mackinder’s ‘World Island’ – the Asian continent – to Russia, China, the DPRK and Iran, so it can only try to destroy or control it from the periphery [using] AUKUS, the Indo-Pacific Quad, and color revolutions in the region creating chaos with their neighbors,” with Sheikh Hasina becoming the latest victim, Brown summed up.

Trump plans for three rounds of debates against Harris in September

Republican presidential contender Donald Trump said that he wanted to hold three rounds of televised debates against his Democrat rival, Vice-President Kamala Harris, in September, a month before the US presidential vote.

"The first Debate with Kamala Harris, for President of the United States of America, will be with FoxNews on September 4th, 2024, LIVE from beautiful Harrisburg, Pennsylvania,” Trump posted on his Truth Social site.

The second would be on the ABC TV network on September 10 from the Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The third will be aired on NBC, from Grand Rapids, Michigan, on September 25th.

Trump did not say whether Harris had agreed to show up for all three rounds of debates. If confirmed, this will be her first face-off with Trump following President Joe Biden's disastrous performance against his Republican rival on June 27.

Fiat currency apocalypse approaches as central banks dump dollars for gold

Central banks’ holdings of dollar-denominated assets have reached a historic low, driven by Washington’s attempts to lock resource-rich Russia out of the dollar-based global financial system, which has led developing countries to seek refuge in gold as an asset whose value and convertibility isn’t tied to the whims of any one nation and therefore cannot be as easily weaponized.

IMF estimates from the spring cited by Nikkei in a recent report show that dollar and US Treasury-denominated foreign reserves have hit to 58.9 percent in 2024, down from about 70 percent two decades ago.

A World Gold Council survey published in June calculated that central banks’ purchase of the precious metal topped 1,037 tons in 2023 – the second-highest annual buy-up in history after purchases in 2022, which amounted to 1,082 tons.

China has led the bullion buy-up, adding gold to its reserves for 18 consecutive months from November 2022 onward, increasing them by 16.3 percent, to about 2,264 tons total as of June.

India has also rapidly stacked up its gold-denominated assets, which are currently worth $57.6 billion, or 30 percent more than they were during the same period in 2023. Delhi purchased some 19 tons of gold in the first quarter of 2024 alone, to a total of 841 tons. Apparently learning lessons from Venezuela, Russia and Libya’s sour experiences relating to the risks of storing central bank assets in foreign countries, India recently moved about 100 tons of its gold reserves from Britain back home to domestic vaults.

Secret Service goes undercover at Kamala Harris fundraiser—right into a salon restroom

The United States Secret Service, in an effort to secure a nearby fundraiser for Democratic presidential nominee and current Vice-President Kamala Harris, decided that a Massachusetts salon needed a thorough, if not entirely warranted, inspection.

Agents broke into the business, taped over security cameras and then used the facilities for a two-hour period. The incident, which left the salon owner feeling "violated," raises serious questions about the Secret Service's conduct and judgment.

With the VIP protection force already under scrutiny for its failure to head-off Republican candidate Donald Trump’s would be-assassin, this latest episode only adds to growing concerns.

Was this really the best way for the Vice President’s security detail to spend its time?

How the US expands its military presence in the Middle East

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has ordered “adjustments” to the US' “military posture” in the Middle East to ensure Washington is prepared to respond to “various contingencies," in an apparent nod to Iran’s pledge to retaliate against Israel over the July 31 assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

▪️The USS Abraham Lincoln strike group has been ordered to sail to the Middle East to replace the USS Theodore Roosevelt strike group before the end of August, according to the Pentagon.

▪️Two of the five destroyers sailing with the USS Theodore Roosevelt - the USS Laboon and USS Cole - have been instructed to move to the Red Sea and toward Israel.

▪️About a dozen F/A-18 fighter jets and an E-2D Hawkeye surveillance aircraft from the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier earlier arrived at the undisclosed US base in the region, an unnamed US source told the Times of Israel.

▪️The US Navy jets’ land-based deployment is expected to be temporary, because a squadron of F-22 fighter jets is en route to the same base from their home station in Alaska. The roughly dozen F-22s are expected to arrive in the Middle East in the coming days, the source claimed.

▪️The Department of Defense also underscored a possible deployment of additional land-based ballistic missile defenses in the region.

▪️At the same time, the Pentagon recalled that the USS WASP Amphibious Ready Group / Marine Expeditionary Unit (ARG/MEU) is already operating in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Pressure from within? Biden hints at Pelosi’s role in his decision to step aside

In a subtle yet telling admission, President Biden hinted at internal tensions within the Democratic Party as he explained his decision to step away from the 2024 race in a first interview since the announcement.

Citing concerns that continued resistance from influential figures like Nancy Pelosi could overshadow his campaign, Biden acknowledged the mounting pressure from his own party to exit gracefully.

"I was concerned if I stayed in the race, that would be the topic," he remarked, suggesting that Pelosi's critiques could have been a distraction.

Biden’s swift endorsement of Kamala Harris immediately following his withdrawal has only added to the whispers of a coordinated move to shift the party's direction.

Some prominent Republicans, including presidential nominee Donald Trump, are framing Biden’s exit as part of a broader strategy, suggesting that his decision might not have been entirely voluntary but rather influenced by strategic forces within the party.
