HIMARS' destruction highlights possible US involvement in Ukraine’s incursion into Russia
Western media speculations about a US-made HIMARS rocket launcher possibly being used in Ukrainian forces’ incursion into Russia’s Kursk region have apparently been confirmed after one such weapon system was destroyed by Russian shelling in the region.
Footage of the HIMARS launcher’s destruction was released today by the Russian Ministry of Defense. The US-made weapon system was spotted in Ukraine’s Sumy region (which borders Russia’s Kursk region) and was promptly obliterated by an Iskander missile strike.
The attack also resulted in the destruction of six HIMARS rockets that were stashed near the launcher and two vehicles belonging to a Ukrainian military squad tasked with protecting the rocket launcher.
Earlier this week, New Lines Magazine claimed that a HIMARS or an M270 multiple rocket launcher was apparently used to shell a Russian column near the town of Rylsk in the Kursk Region.
This development suggests that the US officials’ claims of not being aware of Ukraine’s invasion plans might have been untrue, considering that in 2022 a high-ranking Ukrainian military intelligence official let slip that Kiev has to gain Washington’s approval to use HIMARS.

US could have given intelligence to the Ukrainian Army to attack Kursk Region - ex-Pentagon adviser
The White House on the eve denied US involvement in the preparation and planning of the Ukraine's attack.
Russian Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov said at a meeting of the National Anti-Terrorist Commission that Ukraine, with the support of the collective West, carried out a terrorist attack in the Kursk region, targeting civilians.

"Ukraine breaching a soft spot in Russia's border was likely carried out based on US intelligence. This was done to create the illusion they are making progress so the DC warmongers will send them more money," former Pentagon adviser, retired Colonel Douglas McGregor said in the post on X.
The White House on the eve denied US involvement in the preparation and planning of the Ukraine's attack.
At the same time, the Bloomberg agency quoted sources as saying that Ukraine was considering several scenarios for a surprise attack on Russia, having received the "blessing" of the US and EU leadership for the first invasion of Russian territory since the Second World War II.

Legacy of Nazism and fascism still haunting the West
The German Ministry of Defense has withdrawn its controversial decision to pay homage to former Nazi Wehrmacht officers, who were members of the NSDAP and SS units, in the extention to the Bundeswehr's Tradition Decree following public criticism. Earlier, the ministry proposed adding about 40,000 Wehrmacht servicemen to the list of honored military personnel.
Sputnik has looked at the other instances of the attempted glorification of Nazism:
▪️In Italy pro-fascist groups annually commemorate the National Fascist Party's 1922 "march on Rome" in October while in July they celebrate the birthday of Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, an ally of Nazi Germany during the Second World War, in Predappio, Mussolini's birthplace. According to B’nai B’rith, a DC-based nonprofit, the March on Rome event brought together around 4,000 participants in 2022.
▪️The US: even though the US was one of the Allied Forces fighting against Nazi Germany, neo-Nazi marches take place across the US. In February 2024 a group of people marched in broad daylight in downtown Nashville, Tennessee, giving Nazi salutes and carrying a black swastika flag. There are plenty of neo-Nazi groups in the country with the National Socialist Movement (NSM) considered the largest and most active.
▪️Ukraine: Since the February 2014 Euromaidan coup d'etat the Kiev regime has openly celebrated Nazi collaborators Roman Shukhevych and Stepan Bandera as national heroes. Ukrainian nationalist battalions have been repeatedly spotted wearing Nazi insignia, giving Nazi salute, organizing Nazi-style torch marches.
▪️Latvia: Every year on March 16, Remembrance Day of the Latvian Legionnaires is held in Riga paying homage to the so-called Latvian Legion – the union of the 15th (Latvian No. 1) and 19th (Latvian No. 2) Waffen Grenadier Divisions of the SS.
▪️Bulgaria: On February 13, 2023, "The Lukov March" commemorated the anniversary of the death of Bulgarian Nazi collaborator Hristo Lukov, who founded the fascist Union of Bulgarian National Legions (UBNL), in Sofia, Bulgaria. It was repeatedly banned by the authorities, but took place nevertheless.
▪️Germany: The Rudolf Hess Memorial March honoring the Nazi war criminal Rudolf Hess occasionally takes place in Wunsiedel, Berlin, and other German cities. Most recently the number of participants has reportedly dwindled with the 2021 march counting 150 demonstrators and the November 2022 march bringing together 120 people.
▪️Canada: In September 2023, Ukrainian Nazi veteran Yaroslav Hunka, who fought in the ranks of the Schutzstaffel’s SS 14th Waffen Grenadier Division, was given a standing ovation by Canadian lawmakers and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Ups and downs: Which factors affect oil and gas prices?
With growing tensions and armed conflicts in various parts of the world, prices of oil and gas surged this year.
Sputnik has looked into what exactly may affect such price hikes:
🔸 The geopolitical situation, especially in oil and gas producing countries, has always played an important role in determining energy prices.
For example, Ukraine’s recent incursion into Russia, right in the area where a major pipeline pumping Russian natural gas to Europe is located, led to a natural gas price surge in the EU.
Likewise, the current instability in the Middle East where all hell may break loose between Israel and Iran potentially threatens to disrupt the flow of oil from the region and helps drive oil prices up.
🔸 The law of supply and demand obviously applies. When there is an abundance of oil on the market, the price goes down, but when the supply dwindles, the opposite happens.
🔸 At the same time, a lot also depends on whether prospective buyers exhibit a glut for oil or not – it doesn’t really matter how much oil is on the market if no one is interested in buying it, does it?
🔸 Oil and gas reserves: a prospective buyer has little reason to pay extra for something they already have in abundance, but when their stockpiles of this commodity (oil and gas, in this case) start to run out, money suddenly becomes less of an issue.
🔸 Finally, there are the stock markets. While it may seem trifle when compared to things like armed conflicts, one must not underestimate how futures trading may affect markets for commodities such as oil.

Key statements by Russian presidential aide Nikolai Patrushev during an interview with a Russian news agency:
◾️ Without US involvement and its direct support, Kiev would not have risked entering Russian territory.
◾️ On the Ukrainian terrorist attack in the Kursk region: the criminal action stems from the Kiev regime’s anticipation of its imminent collapse.
◾️ The White House's claims of its supposed lack of involvement in Ukraine's crimes in the Kursk region are not true: the US says one thing and does another.
◾️ The Ukrainian attack on the Kursk region was planned with the support of NATO and Western special services.
◾️ The US has created the preconditions for Ukraine to lose territory, including territory long coveted by some US allies.
◾️ The West is actively implementing the strategy of restraining Russia in the Black Sea; NATO is preparing to increase its presence there in violation of international law.
◾️ The West is using Sweden and Finland to deprive Russia of access to the Baltic Sea, turning it into NATO's “internal sea”.
◾️ US promotion of its Indo-Pacific strategy has a clear anti-Russian and anti-Chinese motivation.
◾️ On the situation in Serbia, Venezuela and Bangladesh: The US and UK, facing problems at home, are increasingly seeking to foment conflicts abroad.
◾️ On the situation in Venezuela after the presidential election: the level of US interference in the country's sovereign affairs is not decreasing.
◾️ On the situation in Serbia: the West tried to organize a color revolution and replace the country's legitimate government with politicians subservient to the US.
◾️ On priorities for the development of the Russian Navy: the creation of unmanned underwater and surface marine equipment is becoming an urgent area of focus.
◾️ It is time for the West to realize that in terms of military and civilian potential in the Arctic, Russia is far ahead of the United States and all other countries of the region combined.

Palestinian movement Hamas is not refusing to hold talks with Israel, but demands a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Hamas political office member Husam Badran told Sputnik.
Any negotiations must be based on a clear plan on how to implement the agreed actions, the Hamas official said. He also expressed his concern that Israel would impede the talks to be able to continue military actions in the enclave.
Hamas has repeatedly responded to international ceasefire initiatives, including US President Joe Biden's proposal and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, the official added.

"The [Hamas] movement does not reject the principle of negotiations as such, contrary to the statements made by Zionist [Israeli] propaganda, and demands an operational plan that will ensure the success of these efforts and lead to an effective cessation of aggression," Badran said.

"The movement believes that the real hurdle for a ceasefire is Israel's continued avoidance and the unconditional support that the US administration has for it, as it is indelibly linked with [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu's position," Badran said.
Hamas has repeatedly responded to international ceasefire initiatives, including US President Joe Biden's proposal and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, the official added.
"However, the occupation force [Israel] continues refusing to make a concrete agreement and insists on continuing its crimes in the Gaza Strip, ignoring all calls to stop the war ... Any agreement must include a complete ceasefire, a complete withdrawal of troops from the Gaza Strip, the return of displaced persons and reconstruction, as well as prisoner exchange," Badran said.

"Actions speak louder than words": Fed-up with games, Hamas reportedly sits out talks
Ceasefire talks in the Middle East have resumed with the US, Israel, Egypt and Qatar reportedly making an appearance without representation being made from Hamas. The groups are working to secure a ceasefire for the Gaza Strip after the conflict has already claimed more than 40,000 lives, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
While Hamas had previously agreed to a US-presented ceasefire deal, Israel complicated negotiations by creating new demands as a way to sabotage the deal. Iran has reportedly said that if negotiations between Hamas and Israel fail, they will attack Israel.
“Actions speak louder than words and if you keep arming these atrocities, you're gonna keep getting atrocities. That's what it comes down to," Kovalik emphasized.

“...what [the US is] calling arms sales to Israel, but they'll never pay for those arms. It's gonna be a grant of arms to Israel even after these horrible videos have come out about gang rape by Israelis of Palestinian prisoners, and the terrible bombing of that school over the weekend that killed 100 to 150 people where they're only knowing how many people died by the weight of the remains that they collected. I mean, that's how horrible this thing is,” the analyst added.

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair was warned of possible legal consequences of bombing of state-owned broadcaster in Belgrade
Declassified files now reveal that UK Prime Minister Tony Blair was warned against the depraved attack at the time by British attorney general John Morris, who questioned how the destruction of the headquarters was related to NATO’s purported cause in ensuring “relief of humanitarian need.”
The UK and the United States launched the illegal act of aggression in Belgrade without a required UN Security Council resolution, demonstrating the lengths NATO was willing to go to to ensure Western hegemony after the end of the Cold War.
NATO forces claimed to be acting in the interest of protecting Albanians as ethnic violence broke out on all sides during the breakup of the former Yugoslav republic. But President Slobodan Milošević remained a conspicuous holdout as newly-independent states deregulated their economies in line with neoliberal economic policy.
The United States would back numerous “color revolutions” after the fall of the Eastern Bloc, with wealthy donors like George Soros encouraging and standing to benefit from Western-enforced economic liberalization.

Scott Ritter: Russia obliterates NATO fighters, weaponry as Ukraine mounts desperate attack in Kursk
Ukraine was forced to expend some of their most well-trained soldiers and advanced technology in a failed effort to capture the Kursk nuclear power plant, highlighted former US Marine intelligence officer Scott Ritter.
Ritter noted that Moscow quickly responded to the attack, taking the opportunity to destroy Ukrainian supply lines running from the Sumy region.
Russia has also neutralized some of the regime’s most well-trained troops and high-tech NATO weaponry, such as a British Challenger tank, US M1 Abrams tanks and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. The ongoing conflict against the Western client state has served as a showcase for Russian defense technology, which has fared well against Ukraine’s dwindling supplies of expensive NATO weaponry.
The analyst claimed Ukraine’s repeated intransigence would force Moscow to liberate more territory, noting Russia’s repeated attempts to reach a diplomatic solution with Kiev both before and after it launched its special military operation in early 2022.
“So Russia is going to destroy Ukraine. And, sadly, that is probably the way this war is going to end,” the analyst concluded.

“A NATO-created, trained, equipped and directed force of not just Ukrainians, but Polish, French, Americans [and] British has invaded Russia,” said the former UN weapons inspector, who recently faced political persecution in the US.
“This is how you trigger nuclear war. Now, fortunately, the Russians aren't panicking… the incursion has been contained. Not only that, it's been blunted,” Ritter emphasized.

It was in this context that German officials unveiled a surprising break in the case this week, claiming a Ukrainian diving instructor known as Volodymyr Zhuravlev was responsible for the pipeline’s sabotage.
“My feeling is that this is a cover for something, whether for Kursk or something else that they're planning,” said Serbian-American journalist Nebojsa Malic on Sputnik’s The Final Countdown program. “Nobody's really yet offered a rebuttal to Seymour Hersh's allegations from last year that pretty much conclusively point a finger to either the British or the Americans.”
Host Ted Rall doubted German officials’ claim that an amateur diver could have been responsible for the sabotage, noting the difficulty of the operation.
“The Nord Stream 2 pipeline explosion took place at a depth of 260 feet,” Rall said, noting the pipeline was twice as deep as the 130-foot depth limit for recreational divers. “You think about the logistical challenge. You have to go to 260 feet. It's pitch dark. It's freezing cold… This is the Baltic Sea, so it's bitter.”
“Then, you have to locate this thing. You have to break through the external casing of the thing. You have to plant the bomb. And you have to get away from it, you know, before it blows up and kills you and the rented pleasure craft that you got from Poland or wherever… this is not only not true, this cannot be true… So, why on earth are they so lame at their cover story?”
