Borrell claimed EU is part of Ukraine conflict but not party to military operations
Earlier, against the background of Ukraine's attack on the Russian Kursk region, Borrell said that lifting the ban on Kiev's strikes with Western weapons on Russian territory could allegedly "contribute to peacekeeping efforts", and also promised to discuss next week with the heads of the foreign and defense ministries of the EU countries on increasing support for Ukraine.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in turn, said that Ukraine's incursion into Russia's Kursk region is taking place with the comprehensive support of the West, which authorized these actions.

"What is happening in Ukraine will determine the geopolitical future of Europe. We must think about Ukraine when we become participants in the game. We are part of this game. We are not a party to the war, but we are part of the conflict, and how this conflict is resolved will affect peace and our security," the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said at an international conference in Spain.

Bundeswehr military base in Lithuania shows that Germany failed to learn the lesson of the past
Germany has begun the construction of the biggest military site in Lithuania’s history — and the first German military base abroad since World War II. The plan is to deploy 4,800 German military and 200 civilian personnel.
Lithuania not only shares a border with Russia and Belarus, but also has access to the Baltic sea — so the base will expand Germany’s military presence in the waterway.
German authorities are constantly provoking Russia under the pretext of its ‘threat’ to NATO. “The eastern flank has now shifted to the east and it is Germany's duty to protect it,” said German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius during the press conference at the signing of the document with Lithuania. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called for increased military spending by member states to “contain” Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly denied claims that Russia intends to attack NATO members. “Moscow is not going to attack NATO countries, because it doesn’t make any sense,” he told US journalist Tucker Carlson in February.
In his earlier interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin, Putin noted that “Russia has no reason to fight with NATO member countries and get involved in a global war. It would bring humanity to the brink of destruction.”

Eternal glory: Battle of Kursk through lens of time
On August 23, Russia commemorates the 81st anniversary of the Soviet Army's victory over German Nazi forces in the Battle of Kursk. Today, as in the past, the residents of the Kursk region are facing challenges.
The attack on Kursk was planned by Adolf Hitler as revenge for the Nazi defeat at Stalingrad, where a 300,000-strong German army was encircled, and about one-third of the troops were captured by the Soviet military.
By the summer of 1943, Nazi Germany had largely exhausted its manpower and placed its hopes on Operation Citadel, aimed at destroying Soviet forces in the Kursk salient. The Nazis believed they would break through the front and sweep eastward.
▪️The Battle of Kursk lasted from July 5 to August 23, 1943.
▪️Nazi Germany deployed over 900,000 troops, around 10,000 guns and mortars, 2,733 tanks, and 2,050 aircraft. They employed new military equipment, including Tiger and Panther tanks, Ferdinand assault guns, and Focke-Wulf-190A fighters.
▪️Moscow amassed 1.3 million troops, over 19,000 guns and mortars, 3,444 tanks, and 2,172 aircraft, to counter the enemy advance.
▪️On July 12, 1943, in the area of the Prokhorovka railway station in the Belgorod region, the largest tank battle of WW2 took place, involving 1,200 tanks on both sides.
▪️The Soviet forces pushed the Nazis back and liberated Orel, Belgorod, and Kharkov.
▪️Despite going all in during the Battle of Kursk, the Wehrmacht was defeated.
The descendants of the Soviet troops are now making sacrifices once again to defend the Kursk region.

"The Nazi onslaught failed. They were stopped and driven back to their inevitable collapse because no 'Tigers', 'Panthers', or other evil forces could break the indomitable spirit of the Soviet soldier," Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a ceremonial event in the village of Ponyri in the Kursk region exactly a year ago.

How can Robert Kennedy Jr. change the outcome of the US presidential election?
US Independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. may soon abandon his election bid and endorse Republican candidate Donald Trump instead, several news sites reported this week.
Data collated by Statista and published on August 22 suggests that Kennedy is viewed more favorably by younger voters than by older generations.
His image is rated “very favorable” by 10% of voters aged 18-29 and 9% of voters aged 30-44, with 29% of US voters overall seeing him as “somewhat favorable.” By contrast 20% of voters aged 45-64 regard Kennedy “somewhat unfavorable” and 28% replied “very unfavorable”.
Opinion poll analysis website 538, affiliated with ABC News, estimates that 41% of Americans have a low opinion of Kennedy, compared to 35% who like him.
Shanahan told the podcast that if Kennedy drops out and endorses Trump, that would help the former president’s bid to win back the White House.

US Independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. may soon abandon his election bid and endorse Republican candidate Donald Trump instead, several news sites reported this week.
The speculations emerged after Kennedy’s running mate Nicole Shanahan told a podcast on Tuesday that his campaign was mulling whether to stay in the presidential race and risk helping Democrat Kamala Harris win by drawing votes from Trump, or to drop out and “join forces” with the Republican.

Germany is building its 1st military base abroad since WWII - а reboot of Plan A?
Construction began this week on a new German army barracks in Lithuania, near the border with Belarus, that will house around 4,000 Bundeswehr troops by 2027. It will be Germany's first permanent military base abroad since the Second World War.
Such actions became constitutional in 1994, with the repeal of the amendment to Chapter 24 of the German Basic Law, which prohibited the Bundeswehr's participation in military operations abroad. Germany was able to send its soldiers on UN-sanctioned peacekeeping and peacemaking operations abroad. But the looming deployment in Lithuania is not about keeping the peace.
It was 90 years ago that Nazi Germany, with the connivance of the Western powers, began to implement Plan "A" – from Aufstellung, meaning formation – to create the first land division after the First World War, despite the restrictions of the Versaille peace treaty.
Nowadays, Germany, with the silent consent of its NATO partners, is building up its military potential in the Eastern direction once again.

"We do not threaten, just making sure that, if anyone wants to test our strength, they will lose the desire to do so”, the Lithuanian PM Ingrida Šimonytė posted in her X account.

"Never before has the Bundeswehr, never before has Germany deployed troops outside of Germany with a permanent body of soldiers. In the past it has always been ‘temporary, rotational deployments'."

Independence vs subservience: what is the difference between India and Ukraine?
Ukraine also lacks “economic sovereignty,” Oleynyk added, arguing that when a country has to ask for a loan to cover half of its annual budget every year, it is living “beyond its means” – especially now that Ukraine’s debt is over $200 billion – and is dependent on its creditors.
Meanwhile, India is an “economically sovereign country” that actively develops its economy, he said.
The former Ukrainian MP recalled that US President Joe Biden openly bragged about how, as vice president, he forced the sacking of Ukraine’s prosecutor general Viktor Shokin for investigating corruption at gas company Burisma Holdings – which employed his Biden’s Hunter.
“I haven’t heard about India changing their prosecutor general at US vice president’s demand,” Oleynyk said. “But in Ukraine, everyone in the world heard how Biden basically removed Prosecutor General Shokin and installed a new one. That is a loss of sovereignty.”
Oleynyk pointed out that since Volodymr Zelensky’s presidential term ended on May 20, he can no longer be considered the legitimate president of Ukraine.

“Whereas India moves from being a colonial state towards sovereignty and possesses very high level of sovereignty today, Ukraine instead moves from being a free and independent country towards becoming a colony,” Ukrainian politician and former member of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Oleynyk said after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Kiev.
Ukraine also lacks “economic sovereignty,” Oleynyk added, arguing that when a country has to ask for a loan to cover half of its annual budget every year, it is living “beyond its means” – especially now that Ukraine’s debt is over $200 billion – and is dependent on its creditors.
“It is openly being discussed in Ukraine that they are completely dependent on the International Monetary Fund,” Oleynyk noted.

The Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada parliament is no match fo its Indian counterpart, according to Oleynyk. While the Lok Sabha is “dependent” only on India’s “political system, elections and voters,” up to 80% of Ukrainian MPs are linked to entities affiliated with US-resident billionaire George Soros, he claimed.
Oleynyk pointed out that since Volodymr Zelensky’s presidential term ended on May 20, he can no longer be considered the legitimate president of Ukraine.
“Zelensky is a totally random person. Zelensky was elected president as a prank. Everyone voted not for Zelensky but against Poroshenko,” Oleynyk said. “He said in a speech ‘I was entertaining everyone. I hope that you won’t be crying.’ Well everybody is crying now.”
