"Southern Lebanon is being bombarded by probably more than a thousand missiles. The IDF [Israeli Defense Forces] claims they're targeting Hezbollah places, but in fact they are targeting civilians. More than 200 people are now dead for today," Mohamad Kheir, a biomedical engineer from the city of Tyre in southern Lebanon, tells Sputnik.

Despite the alerts, it is still possible to leave Southern provinces, but the IDF is also targeting some roads where the cars are heading to, which makes the way dangerous, the man revealed.

"People have to evacuate their families by themselves, there's no messages from our government," he notes.

Speaking about how the people of Lebanon's southern provinces feel now, Kheir emphasizes they are "used to wars and every other problems."

Earlier, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported that 182 people have been killed and 727 injured as a result of Israeli air raid on southern Lebanon.

Russian ‘atomic sharks’: What is known about the world’s largest nuclear submarines?

On September 23, 1980, the first of the Project 941 Akula-class (lit. Shark) nuclear-powered submarine was launched from the Russian port of Severodvinsk.

These submarines became the largest in the world in terms of tonnage (23,200 tonnes surfaced and 48,000 tonnes submerged), with their prodigious size being a necessity rather than some kind of statement.

The Akulas, designed as a response to the US Ohio-class submarines, were armed with 20 R-39 ballistic missiles. These missiles, while possessing greater range and bigger payload than Trident-1 missiles carried by the Ohio subs, were also much bigger and heavier than Tridents, thus necessitating a bigger carrier.

Nearly 173 meters long and 23.3m wide, an Akula submarine is comprised of five habitable compartments, each of which is encased in its own outer hull (all within the vessel’s main outer hull) - a composition that ensures the submarine’s survivability.

Aside from the 20 R-39 submarine-launched ballistic missiles (each carrying up to ten MIRV thermonuclear warheads), the vessel is also equipped with six 533mm torpedo tubes capable of launching torpedoes and anti-submarine missiles.

Akula’s design allows the submarine to smash through ice as thick as 2.5m while surfacing without sustaining damage.

The size and mass of the R-39 missiles (16 meters long and weighing 84 tonnes each) prompted the building of special cranes capable of lifting these weapons and loading them onto the submarine. Special transport vessel Alexander Brykin equipped with a 125-tonne loading crane was also built. This ship could reload Akula’s missile launchers at sea, in case of a nuclear war breaking out when the destruction of the loading facilities in ports was likely.

Russia is winning in Ukraine conflict despite the ‘best’ of US and NATO weapons - former US congressman

Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine is succeeding despite the regime in Kiev receiving billions of dollars in weapons from the United States and other NATO allies, former US Congressman Ron Paul said.

"The fact is that Russia is winning the war despite hundreds of billions of dollars and the best weapons systems from the US and NATO countries. Each new shipment of increasingly sophisticated weapons does not produce battlefield victories for Ukraine. It only produces more dead Ukrainian soldiers and more profits for the weapons manufacturers," Paul said in a column for the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity.

The world narrowly avoided nuclear destruction last week due to the Biden administration reportedly denying Ukraine’s request to strike deep inside Russian territory, Paul said. However, previous requests by Ukraine have been initially denied then granted later, Paul added.

The US government’s "obsession" with Ukraine is going to "get us all killed," Paul said. US arms manufacturers are the driving force behind the country’s interventionist foreign policy, Paul said.

It is "madness" to risk the future of the US for wars that have nothing to do with the country and serve no national interest, Paul said. The statement applies to both the conflict in Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East, according to Paul.

Death toll from Israeli strikes on Southern Lebanon rises to 492 - Emergency Center

492 people have been killed, including 35 children and 58 women, in the ongoing Israeli raids on towns and villages in southern Lebanon, with 1645 citizens injured, the Emergency Situations Center of the Lebanese Ministry of Health said.

Earlier in the day, the center said the death toll of civilians in Lebanon had risen to 356 people, with 1246 citizens injured.

"The raids killed 492 people, including 35 children and 58 women, and injured 1,645," the statement said.

UNHCR increases assistance to Lebanon, calls for end to airstrikes - statement

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said Monday that it has stepped up its assistance to Lebanon and called for an end to airstrikes, without referring to Israel by name.

"The devastating bombings in Lebanon are costing innocent lives and forcing thousands of people to flee. This has to stop. UNHCR has a long-standing presence in Lebanon, providing support to refugees & host communities. We’re scaling up core relief, cash assistance & medical care," UNHCR said on social media.

Can Israel launch a ground invasion of Lebanon?

The ongoing escalation at the Israeli-Lebanese border, which takes place after a wave of pager and walkie-talkie explosions allegedly orchestrated by the Israeli intelligence that rocked Lebanon, may be followed by “special force incursions by Israeli forces into southern Lebanon,” says Isa Blumi, an associate professor of the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Stockholm University.

The current situation, he suggests, is largely the product of Israel’s actions as the latter seeks to establish control over the water resources of southern Lebanon.

“The expansion of this war, which is the Netanyahu right-wing Zionist political project that started in Gaza, expanded into the West Bank, consolidated in the occupied Golan Heights, is now making a renewed efforts to secure southern Lebanon's water resources, rich farmlands, and to eliminate one of the few organized military resistances in the region against more or less Israel operating with impunity,” Blumi claims.

According to him, he “would be personally surprised" if the Israeli Defense Forces "actually invaded and spends large amounts of time in southern Lebanon.”

That said, Blumi argues that Israel is well aware that it cannot prevail in such a campaign and thus “may try to induce the Americans and others to do the heavy lifting of actually delivering ground forces to evict the resistance that they would receive in southern Lebanon.”

The scholar also speculates that the Israeli military leadership may be against any military invasion of southern Lebanon, wary of the potential repeat of Israel’s failed incursion of 2006.

“I can't foresee Israeli forces going independently and trying to occupy and eliminate Hezbollah from southern Lebanon. It may again be that there may be some kind of coalition that assists in this process,” Blumi says. “But my suggestion is that, at least from my opinion, there will not be any invasion and occupation attempt..., as maybe some right-wing fanatical Zionist settlers would like. But that's not going to happen.”

Zelensky leaving Ukrainians to die for BlackRock, deep state – ex-diplomat (Part 1 👉 Part 2)

While politicians wage a propaganda war to ensure continued funding for the Western proxy conflict against Russia, average Ukrainians are left to suffer for the sake of powerful outside interests, according to Ukrainian whistleblower and former diplomat Andrii Telizhenko.

“Zelensky… could have stopped this war before it started,” said Telizhenko of the controversial figure, whose constitutional mandate as president of Ukraine ended in May. “That's why he has to continue this rhetoric, to stay in power.”

“He can't [negotiate] because he's owned by the West, by Washington, by London, by BlackRock, by the military industrial complex, so they're not gonna let him do that,” he claimed on Sputnik’s The Final Countdown program. “They are making money out of this war and getting everything they can out of Ukraine and out of the resources that Ukraine has. So he has no other possibility. He could have stopped it as soon as he became the president in 2019.”

“He could have [granted] Donbass… autonomy without losing hundreds of thousands of lives,” the former diplomat noted, faulting Zelensky for not following through on a peace plan reached with Russia in Istanbul or implementing the Minsk Accords after campaigning on the issue in 2019.

Telizhenko previously served in the Ukrainian diplomatic corps but fled after facing opposition to his anti-war beliefs. The former government official said Kiev has lost 970,000 troops since 2022, confirming previous analysis that has placed the number of Ukrainian deaths during the conflict at close to one million.

Zelensky leaving Ukrainians to die for BlackRock, deep state – ex-diplomat (Part 2 👉 Part 1)

Ukraine’s Western allies have intervened multiple times to prevent Ukraine from reaching a peaceful resolution with Russia, most recently when the Zelensky regime took part in talks with Moscow after the launch of its special military operation.

Neoconservative elements in Washington have long sought to respond to the perceived threat of Russian military and diplomatic power, but the interests of large Western financial institutions in seeing the proxy war continue have received less attention. The US investment firm BlackRock and Delaware-based bank JP Morgan have launched a massive fund for public and private interests to invest in Ukraine’s reconstruction, it was announced earlier this year. It has been estimated that some half a trillion dollars could be sought to help the country rebuild. BlackRock CEO Larry Fink has emerged as one of the Democratic Party’s most prominent supporters.

“Zelensky is… destroying his own country, leaving people to die for BlackRock, for Washington, for London – and Lindsey Graham confirmed it,” Telizhenko claimed, referring to the hawkish senator’s unyielding support for the proxy conflict. “Ukraine has trillions of dollars… worth of resources. That's why we're fighting this war. This is why Zelensky has to continue this war.”

“I fled this war because I was against this war and my government – the regime, the Kiev Nazi regime – tried to kill me for fighting for peace,” he continued. “Zelensky is doing what he wants to do because he thinks he's backed up, not just [by] Washington, but he's backed up by the deep state and BlackRock and the elites of the United States and the so-called West... That's why he's acting this way.”
