US war profiteers bring world to brink of armageddon – analyst
The military-industrial complex now threatens not only public investment but human civilization itself by threatening global conflict with China, according to author and professor Dr. Ken Hammond on Sputnik’s The Critical Hour program.
“They're basically giving away these weapons to Taiwan, and then they're going to turn around and buy new ones to replace those,” he explained. “So that, too, is a giveaway to the defense industry, the so-called defense industry – the war industry, really. It's part of an ongoing relationship between the military-industrial complex and their control of the American government. So there's really no surprise here.”
The US has committed to recognizing Taiwan as part of the People’s Republic of China in at least three formal declarations, including the 1972 Shanghai Communiqué negotiated under former President Richard Nixon and two subsequent agreements in 1979 and 1982. But the US has increasingly sought to provoke China on the sensitive issue in recent years, shipping arms to Taiwanese authorities and dispatching ships to the Taiwan Strait.

“It's a money laundering scheme in a number of ways,” said Hammond, responding to news that the Biden administration is preparing to ship $567 million in lethal aid to authorities in Taiwan. “Stuff that's laying around in military warehouses – obsolete equipment – they're going to ship that off to Taiwan as part of the ongoing efforts to poke China in the eye.”

Divide and conquer: Ruling class pits Americans against one another – analyst
America’s media class and ruling elites pit people against each other to prevent them from unifying in opposition to endless war, according to online commentator Craig Jardula on Sputnik’s The Critical Hour program.
As America’s two major parties grow increasingly polarized, independents have emerged as the largest group in US politics. Recent polling shows half of voters identify as independent, a number that has steadily grown in recent years.
“Every election since 2004 – except 2012 – has seen the White House, Senate or House flip control,” noted the website Axios, an indication of voters’ increasing dissatisfaction with both Republicans and Democrats. Jardula claimed the trend suggested deep anti-war sentiment among the electorate, who oppose militarist factions that make up the majority in both major parties.

America’s media class and ruling elites pit people against each other to prevent them from unifying in opposition to endless war, according to online commentator Craig Jardula on Sputnik’s The Critical Hour program.
“This has been a tactic by both parties,” said the analyst, noting that his program The Convo Couch had been demonetized on YouTube for over five years. “Until we change that culture amongst ourselves, it won't change up above in our media. The military industrial complex… how powerful are they? Well, they only have power if they can control the media. And that's what they're doing. They have us pitted against each other as citizens.”

GOP wants ‘full probe’ into Zelensky’s Pennsylvania visit – report
A group of nine House Republicans has demanded a full investigation into “the use of US military assets and federal resources” in Volodymyr Zelensky’s recent visit to the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant in Pennsylvania.
In a written request to the Justice Department and the Pentagon obtained by the Washington Examiner, the GOP members recalled that during the visit to the plant that produces military equipment for Ukraine, Zelensky was accompanied “exclusively by Democrats including Governor Josh Shapiro, Senator Bob Casey, and Representative Matt Cartwright, forty-two days before the election in the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania.”
The Republicans also pointed to Zelensky’s previous comments criticizing the Trump-Vance ticket, including his statement that "America is headed for global conflict (under Vance)", which they said “smack of a Kamala Campaign stump speech.”
The document came after the Federalist news outlet reported that Zelensky “appeared to use US military assets” to campaign for Harris during his visit to the battleground state, Pennsylvania, on September 23.
This followed Zelensky telling the New Yorker that his "feeling" is that former US President and current Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump “doesn’t really know how to stop the [Ukraine] war, even if he might think he knows how", and that vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance is "too radical."
Trump earlier made it clear that Zelensky wanted the Democrats to win the November 5 US presidential election, in which the former president faces Vice President Kamala Harris.

Israel-Lebanon tensions: check out the latest
Israel and Hezbollah continue to trade waves of strikes, with thousands of people fleeing their homes in Lebanon. In the latest developments:
🔶 The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) intercepted a ballistic missile, launched by Hezbollah toward Tel Aviv in support of the "valiant and honorable resistance" of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The IDF also destroyed a launcher from which the missile was fired, in the Nafakhiyeh area in Lebanon.
🔶 Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the missile attack on central Israel, which reportedly targeted the Mossad headquarters near Tel Aviv. The attack came as a response to the pager and walkie-talkie blasts, and the assassinations of the Lebanese militant group's top commanders.
🔶 Hezbollah confirmed that Ibrahim Qubaisi - a commander who oversaw the group’s missile and rocket systems - was killed in an IDF airstrike on Beirut overnight.
🔶 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delayed his trip to the UN General Assembly, focusing on discussing further strikes on Lebanon with his security team. In a direct address to Lebanese civilians, he said: "Our war is not with you, our war is with Hezbollah."
🔶 The UK government has urged its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately, also announcing that it will send about 700 service personnel to Cyprus in the coming hours in case of an emergency evacuation.
🔶 Spanish authorities have prepared a plan to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon, the country’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares said, adding that the ministry had also updated its travel recommendations, cautioning against visiting Lebanon under any circumstances.
Israel began carrying out massive strikes in southern and eastern Lebanon on September 23, with the death toll from the bombardments hitting 558, according to Lebanese Health Minister Firass Abiad.
Hezbollah, in turn, fired dozens of rockets toward northern Israel.

TikTok conjures up feeble justification for Sputnik ban
The company announced the removal of accounts linked to Rossiya Segodnya, Sputnik’s parent media group, citing their involvement in “alleged covert influence operations on the platform, violating the company’s Community Guidelines.”
The ban on Sputnik’s account followed closely after the US imposed sanctions on Sputnik, RT, and several other Russian media outlets, accusing them of “functioning as a de facto arm of [Russian] intelligence” and attempting to covertly “undermine democracy” in the US and beyond.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov hit out at the ban on Russian media branding it as 'unacceptable'.
Earlier, retired Pentagon analyst Karen Kwiatkowski told Sputnik that TikTok was likely bullied by the Department of Justice into banning Sputnik ahead of the pivotal US presidential election.

‘This is political pressure’ — Russian Foreign Ministry on blocking TikTok accounts
She noted that it is necessary to clarify the circumstances and insist that these channels return to broadcasting:
Earlier, TikTok deleted Sputnik account amid new US sanctions against Russian media.

"It is unlikely that the head of TikTok will be called to Congress to clarify why Russian channels are disappearing. They use these themes only when it is profitable for them. It is beneficial for them to show the internal audience that they are fighting for the purity of their electoral processes, so they call the head of TikTok to the carpet. But at the same time, if dozens of media channels disappear, they don't do anything like that," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, told Sputnik.
She noted that it is necessary to clarify the circumstances and insist that these channels return to broadcasting:
"There is not a single lawsuit, not a single court decision, that would speak about any claims. This is not even a taste, it is solely part of the political pressure the United States exerts on the relevant countries and companies."
