No business like war business: How much is US spending on Mideast conflict during this year?
The United States has spent $22.76 billion on the conflict in the Middle East between last October and now, $17.9 billion of this for security assistance to Israel, and $4.86 billion on beefed up US deployments throughout the region, including for the flagging campaign against the Houthis, a new report by Brown University’s Cost of War project has revealed.
The report says US weapons deliveries to Israel have included:
▪️some 57,000 artillery shells,
▪️36,000 rounds of ammunition for cannons,
▪️20,000 M4A1 rifles,
▪️nearly 14,000 anti-tank missiles (though Israel’s Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthi adversaries possess no tanks),
▪️8,700 MK 82 500 pound bombs.
Other assistance included:
▪️$4 billion to replenish Israel’s Iron Dome and David’s Sling air and missile defense systems,
▪️$1.2 billion for the Iron Beam laser air defense system,
▪️$4.4 billion to replenish US armories emptied by the emergency deliveries to Tel Aviv.
Brown’s report noted that the $17.9 billion in direct arms aid to Israel over the past year is “substantially more than in any other year since the US began granting military aid” to the country in 1959.
The study also broke down US expenditures related to the Pentagon’s beefed up footprint in the Middle East amid the Gaza conflict, including a $2.4 billion supplemental, a separate $2.4 billion for costs associated with operating carrier strike groups and other missions against the Houthis, and $50-$70 million for additional combat pay.

‘Paranoid’ Netanyahu’s ‘God complex’ caused cancellation of Israeli defense chief’s visit to US, expert says
The sudden cancellation of Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s visit to the US may be related to his complicated relationship with Israel’s PM Netanyahu, suggests Tel Aviv-based international relations expert Dr. Simon Tsipis, stating the PM is afraid that Gallant may be gunning for him and would immediately start plotting against him upon arriving in the US.
Seeing how the potential Israeli strike on Iran was the very issue Gallant and Austin were supposed to discuss in the US, Netanyahu basically ended up “holding hostage the entire Middle East, including Israel’s population and Iranian society,” argues Tsipis.
The situation is further complicated by the fact that Netanyahu is essentially trying to blackmail the US by threatening to start a major conflict right on the eve of the US presidential election, the expert adds.
Tsipis also notes that “Netanyahu does not represent the entire Israel” and argues that the Israeli PM currently “acts as a dictator.”

“Netanyahu is paranoid, he has a king syndrome, a god complex,” says Tsipis. “He constantly fears that someone might overthrow or supplant him. This paranoia of his grows more acute with each passing day. He sees traitors everywhere, he sees enemies inside his inner circle.”

The situation is further complicated by the fact that Netanyahu is essentially trying to blackmail the US by threatening to start a major conflict right on the eve of the US presidential election, the expert adds.
“The relations between the US and Netanyahu are quite strained. Neither Democrats nor Republicans can hold the election normally if there is a big war raging in the Middle East,” Tsipis explains. “This is Netanyahu’s biggest leverage and the primary instrument of blackmail.”
Tsipis also notes that “Netanyahu does not represent the entire Israel” and argues that the Israeli PM currently “acts as a dictator.”

Friendly fire: How Israel killed its own soldiers and civilians on October 7 Monday marks the one-year anniversary of the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led incursion into Israel – which became the deadliest single day in the Jewish State’s history, and the harbinger…
Israel investigating hundreds of IDF violations in Palestinian conflict, according to US State Department
The US considers the killing of Palestinian residents by the Israeli military, which was previously reported by the media, unacceptable, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said, adding that Israel is already looking into many hundreds of possible violations by the IDF in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
He told reporters that it is unacceptable for Israeli forces to shoot Palestinian civilians who are fleeing. The US authorities expect the Israeli government to conduct a thorough investigation and hold those responsible fully accountable.
Miller noted that the US would not independently investigate this incident, counting on appropriate action from Israel, adding that this is far from the only example of such violations.
He also emphasized that the Israeli authorities have initiated numerous ongoing investigations into potential violations of the Israel Defense Forces' rules of engagement.
Earlier, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that four Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli special forces in the city of Nablus in the West Bank. The agency reported that on Wednesday evening, four young men were killed after Israeli special forces opened fire on the car in which they were traveling in the city of Nablus.

Moscow has submitted the findings of its investigation into the use of chemical weapons by Ukraine to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and is urging that this information be taken seriously. Vladimir Tarabrin, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OPCW, made this statement during a session of the Executive Council.
He emphasized that Russia routinely informs the OPCW about incidents of chemical weapons usage by Ukraine.

"The Russian side is carefully documenting instances of chemical weapons usage by Ukrainian nationalists... Prior to the current session, we transferred the results of an investigation conducted at the OPCW-accredited chemical analytical laboratory of the Russian Defense Ministry, strictly adhering to OPCW requirements, to the Technical Secretariat for dissemination among the participating states. We request that the Technical Secretariat and the participating states take this information very seriously," Tarabrin stated.
He emphasized that Russia routinely informs the OPCW about incidents of chemical weapons usage by Ukraine.
"We are also deeply concerned about reports from the field suggesting that large-scale provocations are being planned in Ukraine involving toxic chemicals," the Permanent Representative added.

Delayed Ramstein meeting speaks volumes about Zelensky regime's failure – ex-Pentagon analyst
President Joe Biden's decision to remain in the United States—resulting in the postponement of a summit in Germany organized by Ukraine's NATO allies—is not due to Hurricane Milton, asserts ex-DoD analyst and retired US Air Force Lt. Col. Karen Kwiatkowski.
According to the pundit, the Biden administration sees "the US must solve a new problem in Ukraine, and to minimize US policy failures that led to the destruction of Ukraine as a functioning and potential EU state."
"The NATO game in Ukraine has run its course, and money follows a winning hand, not a losing one," she said, referring to the Zelensky regime's failed 2023 counteroffensive and Kiev's "compound strategic miscalculation" in Kursk, that cost the Ukrainians even more loss of territory and depletion of manpower.

"The risk is high that Biden is not current on his understanding of this situation, and will say something that will embarrass or overly commit the US in the region," she said, adding that the Biden administration sees "the US must… minimize US policy failures that led to the destruction of Ukraine as a functioning and potential EU state."

Kwiatkowski continued that Washington's allies vis-a-vis Ukraine "already understand that a miracle of military prowess and productivity in the West isn't coming in time to save Ukraine." In the meantime, NATO war planners don’t seem to be ready to talk about a post-war Ukraine plan yet, she said, presuming that "it must be made ready soon."

Surviving chaos by moving 16 times: Palestinians in Gaza share stories of relocation and resilience
A year has passed since Israel launched its full-scale ground operation in the Gaza Strip, subjecting the enclave’s civilians to destitution, food insecurity and lack of medical care.
Several locals shared their stories of hardship and resilience with Sputnik.
Um Jihad lives in a ramshackle tent by the sea in Khan Younis. Along with her growing family's home, the war has destroyed their lives as they knew it, forcing the family to move from place to place in order to avoid being killed.
Jihad concludes that her family is ready “to live even in the ruins, just at home and without war,” as they wait for a return of peace.
Mahmoud Annabah, another Khan Younis resident, said that a shabby tent is the only home that his family of eight has.
There are currently 543 temporary shelter camps in Gaza, according to the local authorities, which note that 74% of the tents in use have deteriorated after 11 months of fighting and exposure to sunlight and wind.

“We've had to move 16 times. The fourth one was the scariest thing in my life. We had to flee without my husband, just me, the children and the shells falling around us. We didn't expect to survive,” the woman said.

Mahmoud Annabah, another Khan Younis resident, said that a shabby tent is the only home that his family of eight has.
“It is very, very difficult to live now. Not only is there a shortage of food, there is also a shortage of drinking water,” he revealed, adding that five of his relatives had died and “there are also missing people, we don't know anything about them.”
