New Trump administration to focus on Ukraine conflict resolution in January 2025 – Mike Waltz

Donald Trump's incoming administration plans to prioritize efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine starting in January 2025, said Mike Waltz, Trump’s pick for national security advisor.

💬 “And so what we need to be discussing is who's at that table, whether it's an agreement, an armistice, how to get both sides to the table, and then what's the framework of a deal. That's what we'll be working with this administration until January and then beyond,” he said in an interview with Fox News.

According to Waltz, European countries are expected to play a “key role” in the negotiation process.

💬 “All of our allies and partners need to be carrying this burden going forward," the congressman emphasized.

A Russian aircraft caught fire after landing at Antalya Airport: What is known so far?

A Sukhoi Superjet 100 passenger plane operated by the Russian airline Azimuth caught fire after landing at Antalya Airport, reportedly due to sudden changes in wind speed and direction that caused a rough landing, according to the airline's representative.

Key details:

The fire alarm was raised at 21:34 Moscow time, and fire suppression began at 21:36. Evacuation was completed within seven minutes.

A total of 89 passengers and 6 crew members were evacuated, according to Turkiye's Ministry of Transport.

Local authorities confirmed that all passengers and crew were safely evacuated by 21:43 Moscow time.

No fatalities or injuries have been reported, as confirmed by Russian aviation authorities and the Antalya Deputy Governor.

Antalya Airport has been closed to incoming flights until 03:00 Moscow time while the damaged aircraft is being towed off the runway.

More than 20 flights were redirected to airports in Izmir, Dalaman, and other Turkish cities due to the closure.

The return flight of the Azimuth aircraft from Antalya to Sochi has been delayed. Initially scheduled to arrive at 00:30 Moscow time, it is now expected at 07:20 Moscow time, marked as "delayed" on online schedules.

The Russian embassy and consulate in Antalya are in contact with local authorities to assist Russian nationals who were aboard the aircraft, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Cyprus develops a plan to join NATO – reports

Cyprus has developed a plan to join the North Atlantic Alliance. A strategy for the gradual rapprochement of the Republic of Cyprus with NATO was the focus of a meeting between the island nation’s President, Nicos Christodoulidis, and US President Joe Biden in late October, according to the Greek newspaper Kathimerini.

“Nicosia has developed a plan whose ultimate goal is NATO membership, fully aware of the serious obstacles it is bound to face. White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan called it a ‘win-win,’ adding that ‘the prospects that such a development would be enormous,’” according to the report.

The starting point of the plan is the positive development of the Cyprus settlement and progress in relations between Cyprus and Turkiye.

“The strengthening of Cyprus' new role at the center of American strategy in the region is also reflected in President Christodoulidis' contacts with the Republican majority in Congress immediately after Donald Trump’s election victory. In a telephone conversation with senators closely working with the incoming US president, the new leadership’s intention to maintain and further strengthen Cyprus’ role in the region was reaffirmed,” the article said.

On October 30, Christodoulidis visited Washington, marking the first official visit by a Cypriot president to the American capital since 1996.

According to the newspaper, after his visit to Washington, Christodoulidis also discussed his plan with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on the sidelines of the European Political Community summit in Bucharest.

Cyprus was one of the founding members of the Non-Aligned Movement but withdrew from it in 2004 upon its accession to the European Union.

Blinken under fire for "cry sessions" at the State Department – reports

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is under scrutiny following reports that the State Department organized therapy sessions for employees distressed by Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory. Critics are questioning the use of taxpayer funds for these sessions, which were reportedly aimed at helping staff cope with Trump’s return to office.

💬 “These are foreign service officers of the United States! How do they handle foreign adversaries if they can’t handle democracy?” asked Fox News co-host Kayleigh McEnany. “A new report claims that the State Department used taxpayer dollars—your money—to fund therapy sessions for employees after Trump's win. These are federal employees,” she added.

✍️ Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., expressed concern in a letter to Blinken, stating, “It is disturbing that ostensibly nonpartisan government officials would suffer a personal meltdown over the results of a free and fair election, something the United States champions around the world.”

✍️ Issa further criticized the initiative, writing, “I am concerned that the Department is catering to federal employees who are personally devastated by the normal functioning of American democracy through the provision of government-funded mental health counseling because Kamala Harris was not elected President of the United States.”

In his letter, Issa also demanded transparency regarding the sessions, including their cost, materials used, and whether similar practices have occurred in the past.

🗳 Georgescu wins first round of Romanian presidential election – CEC

With nearly all votes counted, Calin Georgescu, a candidate advocating for normalizing relations with Russia, is leading the first round of Romania's presidential election, according to the country's Central Election Commission (CEC).

The presidential election took place on Sunday and is held every five years.

With 98.7% of the ballots processed, Georgescu has secured 22.65% of the vote, while his main rival, incumbent Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, trails with 19.46%.

The runoff is scheduled for December 8.

Georgescu’s performance came as a surprise, as pre-election polls had underestimated his chances. His campaign relied heavily on TikTok, where he promoted traditional values while also praising Romanian military figures who aligned with fascists during World War II. He has openly criticized Bucharest's role in the Ukraine conflict, accusing NATO and the EU of neglecting Romania’s interests and highlighting that American defense contractors are exploiting the war for profit.

Under Romanian law, a candidate must secure more than half of the votes on the electoral rolls to win the presidency outright. If no candidate achieves this majority, a runoff is held two weeks later, and the winner is determined by a simple majority.

Too old, sick or lack motivation - Ukraine's mobilization slacks

Ukraine is facing manpower issues as the army is long out of willing recruits. Its mobilisation campaign is falling short, recruiting barely two-thirds of its target, according to the Economist.

“I’m being sent guys, 50 plus, with doctors’ notes telling me they are too ill to serve,” the report says quoting a senior Ukrainian official. “At times it feels like I’m managing a day-care centre rather than a combat unit,” official said.

The newest of the recruits is a 51-year-old former laborer who wears +9 prenoscription glasses, as per the article.

The man admits he was surprised being enlisted as he did not expect the officers to mobilize someone who was half blind. Unsurprisingly, he is struggling with the physical demands, the outlet reads.

“Anyone can shoot,” the recruit says. “It’s hitting the target I’m not so good at.”

⛔️Anti-woke warrior: Trump to remove 15k transgender troops from US military

Donald Trump plans to remove all transgender* members of the US Armed Forces in a new executive order, The Times reported, citing defense sources.

The order is expected to be signed on the first day of Trump's return to the White House, January 20.

It is estimated that there are approximately 15,000 transgender individuals among active service personnel. They would be medically discharged, which would determine that they were unfit to serve, the article reports.

💬 Medical care for transgender personnel is an extravagance the Pentagon cannot afford, Pete Hegseth, Trump's pick for defense secretary, said, adding that focusing on issues that affect only a small number of people in the military is an example of "trans lunacy".

Trump has repeatedly slammed the woke agenda in the military, saying that some high-ranking officers are often more interested in diversity, equity, and inclusion than fighting.

*LGBT is an extremist movement banned in Russia.
