🗣‘I did everything to ensure Russia's sovereignty’ – Putin

Russia has stepped back from the brink of the abyss, where all that happened before and after former president Boris Yeltsin's resignation led to a total loss of national sovereignty, President Vladimir Putin said.

"Without sovereignty, Russia cannot exist as an independent state," Putin stressed.

🗣Putin on Middle East mess: Russia stands for independent Palestine, Israel ‘main beneficiary’ of Syria turmoil

💬 “The resolution of Palestine issue can be attained only with the help of removing the root causes,” President Putin said at his year-end presser.

💬 “The Security Council…opted in favor of a two-state solution: Israel and Palestine. Israel was established, Palestine is yet to be established. This is the issue, this is the problem, and Israel has been continuing its unlawful settlement activities to date. I'm not sure what goals Israel is pursuing in Gaza, but this merits only condemnation,” Putin emphasized.

💬 Turning to the Syria crisis, Putin said “Turkiye has been trying to safeguard its safety on its southern frontiers, and to create conditions for the return of refugees back home from its territory to Syrian land. And those territories are now under more or less control of actually Turkiye.”

💬 As for the crisis more broadly, Israel has proven “the main beneficiary,” according to the Russian president, who cited Israel’s seizure of Syrian territories in the Golan Heights, and the growing risks of Syria’s collapse as a state.

💬 “Turkiye has had problems with the Kurdish Workers Party for decades. I hope there will not be an aggravation, but, you know, some European leaders have told me that after World War I, the Kurds were promised their own state and were duped and deceived. Kurds reside in Iran, Iraq, and Turkiye, and Syria. You know how many of them live there? Around 30 to 35 million Kurds. And the Kurds are formidable fighters,” Putin said.

🗣Putin contrasts Joe Biden’s pardon of Hunter with Ivan the Terrible, Peter the Great, Stalin’s treatment of their sons

President Biden’s pardon of his son Hunter despite promising not to showed his “human” side, and it’s not Russia’s place to “condemn” it, Vladimir Putin said at his year-end presser. “Sometimes, you know, they say silence is gold. Sometimes it’s better not to say anything.”

💬 “We know the famous painting Ivan the Terrible and His Son. Maybe it’s a legend, maybe it’s not,” Putin said, recalling the famous Ilya Repin work of the tsar cradling his dying son in his arms after dealing him a severe blow to the head, and contrasting the legend with Joe Biden and his son.

💬 “What happened to Peter the Great’s son Alexei…maybe it’s a legend, maybe it’s not,” Putin added, evoking the story of the imprisonment and execution of the tsar’s son on treason charges.

💬 “Or what happened to Stalin – and this was not a legend. When Stalin refused to swap his son Yakov for German General Friedrich Paulus, saying he would not swap a soldier for a field marshal,” Putin recalled, remembering the “rigid, and sometimes cruel” measures that needed to be taken to defeat the Nazis.

🗣Putin reveals Orban’s proposal for Christmas ceasefire in Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban proposed a temporary ceasefire in Ukraine for the holidays, President Putin has confirmed, revealing his response to the idea.

“[Orban] said ‘what would you cost you if you declared a Christmas ceasefire for at least a day or two? The enemy won’t be able to accomplish anything in those 2-3 days,’” Putin recalled at his year-end presser.

“I said, ‘yes, probably you are right. Would you first talk to the Ukrainian side?’ On at least three occasions we had agreed to similar measures when it came to navigation in the Black Sea, when it came to energy infrastructure, and so on,” Putin said.

The Ukrainian side refused the holiday ceasefire idea, and a potential new prisoner exchange, Putin said.

🇷🇺Check out Putin's most essential comments from today’s Q&A:

🪖Russia's military operation

▪️Russian army is advancing along the entire front line, with Moscow’s military driving the enemy out of the Kursk region;

▪️The Russian army is moving forward, while the Ukrainian forces cannot consolidate their positions in the areas to which they are retreating:

▪️Nearly all NATO countries are fighting Russia, the combat readiness of the Russian army is the highest in the world;

▪️Russia does not need a truce, but a long-lasting peace, provided with reliable security guarantees;

▪️Putin stated that he was involved in the decision to develop the "Oreshnik" and emphasized that the new anti-missiles in Poland will not be able to target it.

▪️Russia’s updated nuclear doctrine increases the responsibility of hostile non-nuclear states while ensuring Belarus' security;

▪️Putin described the period since 2022 as a significant test for the country, noting that he has found himself joking and laughing less since the onset of the special operation.

🌐 Broader context of Ukraine crisis

🔸The West is afraid of competition, so it imposes sanctions against Russia;

🔸Putin declared his readiness to talk and meet with Trump at any time;

🔸Putin, answering a question about negotiations with Ukraine, said that politics is the art of compromise, and Russia is always ready for talks;

🔸Russia will talk to Zelensky if he holds elections and gains legitimacy;

🔸For the first time, Putin focused on the murder of Lt. Gen. Kirillov, labeling it a terrorist act that poses a significant threat to many lives. He asserted that the Kiev regime has repeatedly engaged in such crimes, and criticized the West for failing to condemn these acts of terrorism.

🔸Putin commented on Joe Biden's pardon of his son Hunter, stating that the US President revealed himself to be more of a human being than a politician. "I cannot blame him for that," he added.

🔸Google and YouTube have created problems for themselves in Russia by not complying with the law;

🔸Putin disclosed that the intelligence services informed him that saboteurs in Slovakia were detained, and in their possession, they had maps of the local energy facilities location.

⚔️ Events in the Middle East:

▫️Putin does not consider the events unfolding in Syria to be a defeat for Russia: "we came there so that a terrorist enclave would not emerge there, in general, we have achieved our goals";

▫️Putin has not yet met with Assad after his arrival in Moscow, but he will;

▫️Putin said that, Syrian army troops and pro-Iranian units throughout Syria retreated without a fight, after which Russia evacuated 4,000 Iranian fighters from the Khmeimim airbase to Tehran;

▫️Putin named Israel as the main beneficiary of the crisis in Syria. Russia condemns Israel’s seizure of Syrian lands, noting that the IDF is now bringing troops there and is going to strengthen their positions. President Putin said that he does not know what ultimate goals Israel is pursuing in the Gaza Strip, but "this is only worthy of condemnation".

🗣Putin reveals what would make him truly happy

Vladimir Putin is honored to serve as president, but something’s missing for him to be able to say that he’s truly happy, the Russian leader said at his year-end press conference.

“Happiness will not be complete until all our boys return from the front line. Until they reunite with their mothers and wives, until their children hug them; until our young people create families and have children; I very much want our scientists, artists and cultural figures to realize their plans. Only then, probably, could it be said that I’m happy,” Putin said.

🗣 Russia ‘will never forget’ sacrifices made to defeat Nazism – what others do is their business: Putin

“We will never forget the sacrifice suffered by our nation and brought to the altar of victory,” President Putin said at his year-end presser, commenting on Russia’s plans to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War next May.

“The fact that other countries are trying to forget it is something natural for them, for today’s leaders, because it is a line of attack against Russia. But that’s their business,” Putin emphasized.

💬 Russia's presence in Syria plays into the hand of new authorities – expert

Russian military bases could play an important role in Syria, including for delivering humanitarian aid to the country, President Vladimir Putin said during his annual Q&A session on Thursday.

Russia's presence in Syria provides an alternative to the Syrian transition government, which is a positive development, veteran war-zone correspondent Elijah J. Magnier told Sputnik.

"Russia is extending its hands and saying, 'if you have changed and you want to rule the country, I have no problem in dealing with you'," Magnier said.

"This is something that the new leaders of Syria would have to take into consideration to their advantage whenever the other countries like the West, in particular Europe and the US, refuse to collaborate with Syria or to support the reconstruction of Syria."

💬 Israel's future depends on what government will be formed in Syria – pundit

Russian President Vladimir Putin called Israel the main beneficiary of recent events in Syria during his annual Q&A session on Thursday. The president noted that despite Tel Aviv justifying its seizure of Syrian territory as a security measure, Russia condemns its actions.

"The collapse of the Assad family’s rule in Syria... has completely disrupted the so-called Shia Crescent and weakened the Axis of Resistance," former Italian diplomat Dr. Marco Carnelos told Sputnik.

The logistical route from Tehran to Beirut to support Hezbollah has been cut off, which helps Israel, the pundit stressed, adding that Iran appears to be weakened too.

"For the time being, all is going well for Israel, [it is] difficult to say if such ideal situation will last forever," Carnelos said. "It will very much depend on which kind of government will emerge in Syria in the next months."

💬 Israel key winner from Syrian crisis, as Putin rightly noted, says Turkish analyst

“We may say that by looking at the current dynamics in Syria, Israel seems to be one of the key winners on the ground,” Dr. Hasan Selim Ozertem, Ankara-based security and political analyst, told Sputnik.

His assessment echoed the one given by Russian President Vladimir Putin at his annual Q&A session.

Three factors contributed to Israel’s expansion of its territorial control in the region:

▪️Firstly, once Syria’s Bashar Assad left the country, Israel “acted swiftly and got control of Mount Hermon,” a strategic location in the Levant, said the pundit.

▪️Secondly, Israel “managed to successfully destroy the military capacity of Syria in the aftermath of almost 400 to 500 airstrikes,” he noted.

▪️“And probably the most important thing is that Iran had to withdraw from Syria in the aftermath of the regime change,” said the analyst.

🗣Kiev regime has no scruples about plotting sabotage attacks in Europe – Putin

Despite being unable to maintain its economy and wage military actions without the West's help, Ukraine has no scruples about cutting off gas supplies to Westerners and even plotting terrorist attacks in Europe, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Not long ago our special services reported to me that saboteurs were detained in Slovakia, having maps with energy facilities and installations marked on them," Putin noted.

💬 Zelensky would have hard time staying in power while negotiating peace with Russia: analyst

“The fact that Zelensky has officially stated that the ‘Donbass and Crimea cannot be reconquered’ is a precise indication that Trump’s message of ‘you must negotiate achievable results’ passed through to Ukraine,” veteran international politics observer Paolo Raffone told Sputnik, commenting on President Putin’s reiteration at his year-end presser Thursday that Russia is ready for talks with a legitimate Ukrainian leadership.

“In this framework, Putin’s openness to negotiate without preconditions signals that the dialogue is ongoing,” Raffone, director of the Brussels-based CIPI Foundation geopolitical affairs think tank, explained.

At the same time, “it will be difficult for Zelensky to remain in power while negotiating under such circumstances,” the observer stressed, perhaps alluding to the immense sway of Ukraine’s ultra-right radicals on issues of war and peace.
