‘All of this is very disturbing for the deep state’ – former CIA analyst

💬 “A cross between being horrified and committing suicide. They are stunned,” retired CIA intelligence officer and State Department official Larry Johnson told Sputnik, commenting on the possible reaction of the US deep state to President Trump’s actions on his first day in office.

While discussing the executive orders signed on Trump’s first day in office as the 47th president of the US, Johnson noted that Trump has been fulfilling his campaign promises by issuing pardons for those convicted in the January 6th attack.

💬 “Trump also is going to pull the clearances of those 51 former intelligence officials, some of whom include John Brennan for some very senior people who currently still have access to classified material and then make money off of it, Trump's pulling the plug on that. He should,” the analyst emphasized.

🇻🇪 Why does US seek regime change in Venezuela? The US president-elect, who spent much of his first term trying to oust Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, hasn’t lost his obsession with the Latin American nation, anonymous Trump advisors revealed to Axios…
How does Trump plan to shake up US Venezuela policy?

The fact that hawks like Secretary of State Marco Rubio and private military contractor Erik Prince are close to Trump means a tougher US stance on Venezuela is likely.

What actions can the new administration take?

🔹 Increased sanctions pressure

Restrictions on Venezuela’s key economic sectors, especially oil, may increase, with Rubio officially pushing for measures in April 2024 to limit the country’s main source of export income.

🔹 Support for opposition forces

Rubio and other hawks may push for US diplomatic recognition and financial aid to opposition groups. In 2019, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources, that Mr. Prince suggested using private contractors for covert ops, potentially facilitating a clandestine push for regime change.

🔹 Military intervention

…is not off the table. Back in 2019, Reuters reported citing anonymous sources that Prince was in favor of using mercs to remove Nicolas Maduro and install Juan Guaido. It also reported that Rubio was supportive of a US military involvement in the country.

🔹 Maduro’s stance

Despite pressure, Maduro remains defiant, presenting himself as the protector of Venezuela’s sovereignty.

💬 “The people of Venezuela defeated imperialism. And the outgoing US government now does not know how to take revenge... A president can't be appointed for Venezuela. They were unable to do this and will never be able to," Maduro said, addressing parliament earlier this month.

🔹 Venezuela’s friends

Venezuela has strengthened ties with Russia via a military and energy cooperation agreement signed in 2024, and with China – upgrading a bilateral strategic partnership in 2023.

🤔Businessman Trump to rebuild Gaza?

Answering a journalist's question about Gaza, Donald Trump has expressed his thoughts in a quite controversial way:

"Gaza is like a massive demolition site. That place is, it's really got to be rebuilt in a different way [...] Gaza's interesting. It's a phenomenal location. On the sea, best weather [...] It's like some beautiful things could be done with it," he said.

US, Israel will seek to ‘exploit’ tensions within Hamas, Gaza as ceasefire steps into effect

💬 “There are going to be those who question the strategy, question the legitimacy of those who are taking the political side of Hamas, trying to represent Hamas as a political organization, and those who are fighting on the ground,” Dr. Isa Blumi told Sputnik, commenting on the challenges facing the group amid a shaky ceasefire with Israel.

💬 “I think the future of the conflict itself is going to reflect these tensions, which are going to be exploited by the Americans and their puppet, the Israeli state,” Blumi, an associate professor at Stockholm University’s Asian and Middle Eastern Studies department, explained.

◻️ Pointing to the assassinations of Hamas’ leaders, the “considerable depletion” of its military wing, and the utter physical and human devastation in Gaza, the academic said it will be difficult now for Hamas to reach out and represent “all the elements” of society “that have emerged during this very brutal war against Israeli forces.”

◻️ In addition, details on the ceasefire agreement, which Blumi warned was “not a done deal,” remain vague regarding potential reconstruction, including what the professor said were efforts by Qatar “to commandeer and claim representation of Hamas and larger Gaza interests.”

◻️ Finally, Blumi said, “Netanyahu and Israel and the far-right in the United States have not necessarily abandoned the idea of completely ethnically cleansing Gaza or large parts of Gaza of its Palestinian population, not only because of the development possibilities in terms of property, but also the offshore gas fields that need to be exploited.”
