A video has surfaced online showing a Russian Il-38N Novella anti-sub plane flying over the US Navy aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, escorted by American fighter jets.
The footage, allegedly filmed by the Russian crew, captures a close pass by a US F-35C Lightning II under the Russian plane's left wing. Below the Russian aircraft, the massive US warship is clearly visible.
Earlier, another viral video shot from the USS Carl Vinson showed the low-altitude flyby of the Russian anti-submarine aircraft, making for a dramatic scene over open waters.

The Aist UAV, weighing nearly 30 kg, covered 162 km in 2.5 hours from Okha (northern Sakhalin) to Nikolayevsk-on-Amur in Khabarovsk Krai, successfully landing at its destination.
The flight, which took place at an altitude of about 600 meters over the Strait of Tartary, was monitored by operators at both ends.
It was timed to mark the 95th anniversary of the first passenger route between mainland Russia and Sakhalin, flown by famed Soviet pilot Mikhail Vodopyanov.

Former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has issued a rousing call to Europeans: give up your cushy social benefits and holidays — it's time to MILITARIZE!
In a Daily Mail column, BoJo laments that workers in the US - from where he sends his 'wise' words - live without the “luxuries” Europeans enjoy, such as paid sick leave, maternity leave, or protection from arbitrary dismissal. He points out, almost admiringly, that in the US, there’s no federal requirement for even a single day of paid sick leave or holiday — and suggests Europe should follow suit.
Johnson argues that the US can afford its nearly $1 trillion defense budget precisely because it doesn't "waste" money on things like social protection. Therefore, his core message is - Europe needs to give up its generous social safety nets so it can divert that money to the military.

It was the first of two expected eclipses to be visible in the Russian capital this year, with the next set for September 21.
While there was no real “WOW” effect this time — as the Moon blocked only 1.8% of the Sun’s surface — it still had a somewhat familiar feeling.
Did you get a chance to see it?

Canada simply cannot catch a break as, just like his scandal-plagued predecessor Justin Trudeau, Canada’s current Prime Minister Mark Carney has been mired in a scandal of his own.
At least 10 instances of apparent plagiarism have been discovered by the National Post in Carney’s 1995 Oxford University doctorate thesis, where he used “full quotes, paraphrases, or slightly modified quotes from four previous works without proper acknowledgement or attribution.”
These accusations, once made public, caused a veritable meltdown in Carney’s Liberal Party, which has postulated him for next month's elections.
The Liberals responded with a statement from Carney’s doctoral supervisor in Oxford who insisted that she sees “no evidence of plagiarism” in the thesis in question, despite said evidence literally being provided by the newspaper.
The Liberal Party also sought to portray Geoffrey Sigalet, academician who examined the evidence, as a “Conservative donor,” even though his contributions in 2022 amounted to a whopping $288, as the newspaper mockingly pointed out.
Seems like Canada has a new tradition: its prime minister simply has to be embroiled in some kind of scandal or controversy. Can anyone break this trend?

France and Britain’s efforts to escalate the Ukrainian conflict stem from them being “worried about their relevance” and refusing to “accept that the conflict is lost,” former British MP Matthew Gordon-Banks tells Sputnik.
“I do have a fear that President [Donald] Trump may need to fully pull out of support for Ukraine in order to make the point that this conflict is over,” says Gordon-Banks, a retired research fellow of the UK Defense Academy & international relations consultant.
Whereas Russia and the US are willing to set aside their differences and negotiate to avoid WWIII, “many Europeans are just simply set in a continuing Russophobic mindset,” he remarks.
“But the Europeans themselves are nothing without the US military, and the United States has made it quite clear that it will not back any so-called peacekeeping hand-holding exercise by... any European countries in Ukraine or on its borders.”
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky practically confirmed a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry that said that the Ukrainian attack on a Russian gas metering station in Sudzha, which clearly violates the terms of ‘energy ceasefire,’ was coordinated by the UK and France.
Commenting on this development, Gordon-Banks says he finds it surprising how there was little Western European media coverage of the events in Sudzha, even though BBC is normally quick to back the Ukrainian narrative in such instances.
“This is not the Russian Federation breaking an agreement. It is the Ukrainians,” he says.
