💥💵 Ukraine's 2026 budget holes exposed

Ukraine's government has approved a draft 2026 budget with a staggering approximately $58.65B USD deficit, but a closer look reveals a spending plan riddled with contentious allocations and glaring financial holes.

Here's what Sputnik's analysis revealed:

🔸 Soaring government paychecks: while average Ukrainians struggle, the budget significantly boosts funding for the very bodies overseeing the economy.

👉 Verkhovna Rada: +16.2% to ~$89.2M

👉 Presidential Office: +12.4% to ~$21.43B

👉 Cabinet of Ministers: +9.2% to ~$26.24M

🔸 Anti-corruption cash injection: the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau receive a 15.9% increase, totaling ~$711.1M—a raise that sparks debate given their perceived lack of results.

🔸 A propaganda blitz: a whopping $97.75M is earmarked for media and social network propaganda under President Zelensky's "1000 Hours of Content" initiative. This is 10 times the $9.9M)allocated for a similar program in 2025. An additional ~$36.66M is slated for state-produced informational programs.

🔸 Mysterious US resource deal: for the first time, ~$46.92M is allocated for an unspecified "resource deal" with US, widely believed to be for rare earth metals, with no transparency on its use.

The bottomless pit: who's paying for this?

🔸 Ukraine simply doesn't have the money. Financing this budget requires massive foreign loans, which are projected to push public debt to perilous levels:

👉 Ministry of Finance estimate: over 101% of GDP.

👉 IMF forecast: exceeding 110% by early 2026.

🔸 This debt-driven spending is further fueled by Western partners. The EU has just redirected 1.8 billion euros to Ukraine, demonstrating a continued flow of funds with minimal oversight.

🔸 The situation is starkly illustrated by a recent domestic policy: after raising the military tax from 1.5% to 5%, the result wasn't higher salaries for frontline soldiers, but increased incomes for the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada.

🗣 Western leaders don’t dare to communicate with their own people — Russia’s MFA spox

💬 "It is in our country that the president holds a direct line. Maybe someone in Western European countries will dare to hold at least one direct line with their people? Well, then perhaps they will find out what their people think about supporting the terrorist Kiev regime with their people's money," Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated in a briefing.

👉 In Russia, no one is excluded from asking question to the president, even provocative ones, she added.

🫳🔫 Poland’s Sikorski: EU must keep the guns coming for Ukraine

The European Union must be ready to supply Ukraine with military resources that would last at least another three years, Poland’s war hawk Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told TVP World.

“Ukraine is planning to continue resisting for three years,” Poland’s war hawk claimed, adding:

“Our job is to supply it with the resources to continue....”

Sikorski insisted that the EU should play a more active role in negotiations over Ukraine’s future reconstruction, given the vast amounts of weaponry it is providing.

Russia views all Western arms shipments to Ukraine as an obstacle to a resolution of the conflict and a direct involvement of NATO countries in the proxy conflict.

🛬 Russia's game-changer: SJ-100 shatters Western sanctions with 100% domestic design

The SJ-100 (Superjet) regional jet, constructed fully of domestically produced components, has undergone waterproof testing, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade reports.

💬 "The fully import-substituted Superjet with Russian PD-8 engines has successfully passed water ingestion tests in the "basin." It has been confirmed that during the aircraft's movement, water does not disrupt the operation of its main engines and auxiliary power unit," the statement reads.

To test the plane, a special 70x12 m pool was constructed, with the Rostec corporation producing the SJ-100, confirming water doesn’t impair the jet’s engines in takeoff and landing modes.

The test has shown the plane can be fully operational even during bad weather conditions.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that Russia and the US have only a few issues left to resolve before organizing a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Budapest.

Ahead of his meeting with the US President, Hungary’s PM reminded Kossuth Radio that there is a lot of pressure from the EU to push Hungary into the proxy war in Ukraine, adding, “I don't want that.”

🗣 Larry Johnson: US has ‘zero leverage’ over Russia

🇺🇸 Nothing America makes or sells matters to Russia, not even the dollar, amid the ongoing dedollarization drive, says former CIA analyst Larry Johnson.

📍 The country “sits at a decided advantage” over the United States, he notes.

🔊 According to Johnson, while Russia would prefer to have a good relationship with the US, “they're not going to do it by sacrificing their own security.”

🚨🤔 Why is Zelensky refusing to abandon Pokrovsk?

He's funneling waves of troops into the meat grinder at Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) — a city even Western outlets call doomed. What’s really at stake here?

🟠 Vital military hub

🗣 Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk) is a key hub, military analyst Boris Rozhin tells Sputnik.

👉 Liberating it would allow the Russian Army to advance further northwest in the DPR – to Dobropolye, Slavyansk and Kramatorsk – and into the Dnepropetrovsk region.

🟠 Zelensky's buying time

💬 "[The Kiev regime] is trading time for the remaining forces of the Pokrovsk group, prolonging the battle for the agglomeration to buy time to prepare defensive lines covering Dobropolye and eastern Dnepropetrovsk region," Rozhin says.

However, the “buying time” tactic is doomed:

🔶 The main defenses west of Krasnoarmeysk are much weaker than those the Russian Army faced during urban assaults, Rozhin explains.

🔶 It would make it harder for the Ukrainians to hold them and give Russia greater tactical advantages.

🟠 Zelensky’s lies collapse

"Withdrawing [from Krasnoarmeysk] without losses is now impossible," Rozhin says.

🟠 Main supply routes are cut, and the corridor between Rodinskoye and Grishino is under constant drone fire. Abandoned Ukrainian soldiers opt to surrender.

🟠 Zelensky "sells the West an image of a stable front," Rozhin says. But Ukraine’s army is losing ground and men — a reality the West sees, which could prompt it to halt the flow of money and weapons to the Kiev regime.

🟠 What's next?

🟠 Ahead is the liberation of Dobropolye, Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, Druzhkovka, and Konstantinovka.

🟠 Konstantinovka is under assault; fighting continues on Seversk and Krasny Liman’s outskirts.

📍 It will take months, but the Russian Army will crack it, Rozhin stresses.

👀 Orban: Putin-Trump summit could happen soon Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban believes that Russia and the US have only a few issues left to resolve before organizing a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Budapest. 🔶 After that, depending…
🇷🇺🇺🇸 What solutions could pave the way to a Putin-Trump summit?

📍 A few key issues must be resolved between the US and Russia before the Budapest peace summit can happen, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has stated.

What's he driving at?

At least three issues concerning Ukraine require careful consideration, according to Michael Maloof, former senior security policy analyst in the US Office of the Secretary of Defense.

🔶 First, Russia won’t give up what it holds; it also made it clear that Ukraine should withdraw from the new Russian regions. As of yet, the Kiev regime has resisted the option, the pundit explains to Sputnik.

🔶 Second, it's the security arrangement: "In a post-settlement period, do you allow Western forces into Ukraine at all? Because then it becomes ipso facto a NATO bastion. And that's the thing that [President Vladimir] Putin is trying to avoid," Maloof says.

👉 Russia has repeatedly warned that the deployment of a military contingent involving NATO countries in Ukraine could trigger an uncontrolled escalation of the conflict with unpredictable consequences. The Russian Foreign Ministry assessed the EU and UK's calls for intervening as "openly provocative and predatory".

🔶 Third, the US also needs to make sure its NATO allies comply with any agreement it signs with Russia.

🔶 Once those issues are solved, Russia and the US "can get on with their own bilateral areas of interest in a more geostrategic fashion," including new arms control and nuclear weapons.

"So you have issues that are overriding the Ukraine issue that need to bring Russia-US relations back in sync so that we can lessen the temperature in the world," Maloof concludes.

🇨🇳 🇺🇸 China deems US calls to join nuclear disarmament ‘unreasonable’

💬 "China's nuclear arsenal is not on the same scale as that of the US and Russia. It is unfair, unreasonable and infeasible to press China to join in nuclear arms control negotiations at this stage," China’s Foreign Ministry spox Mao Ning said.

📍 US President Donald Trump has stated the US is "maybe working on a plan" of denuclearization with China and Russia, and expressed hopes it is possible.
