Targeting signaling pathways involved in primordial follicle growth or dormancy: potential application in prevention of follicular loss and infertility

New Paper by USERN Interest Group

🌀Premature ovarian failure (POF) is one of the important causes of infertility in females. To date, no efficient preventive pharmacological treatment has been offered to prevent POF.

🌀Therefore, it is necessary to focus on strategies that provide a normal reproductive lifespan to females at risk of developing POF.

The role of Toll-like receptors and neuroinflammation in Parkinson’s disease

New Paper by USERN Interest Group

🌀Although the presence of inflammation in acute phases of PD might have protective effects concerning the clearance of α-synuclein and delaying the disease advancement, the chronic activation of TLRs and neuroinflammation might lead to neurodegeneration, resulting in the disease progression. 

🌀This article aimed to review additional evidence of the contribution of TLRs and neuroinflammation to PD pathogenesis, with the hope that TLRs could serve as novel disease-modifying therapeutic targets in PD patients in the future.

Investigation of BRCAness associated miRNA-gene axes in breast cancer: cell-free miR-182-5p as a potential expression signature of BRCAness

🔷The concept of the ‘BRCAness’ phenotype implies the properties that some sporadic breast cancers (BC) share with BRCA1/2-mutation carriers with hereditary BC.

🔷The current study aims to evaluate the expression level of some critical miRNAs-mRNA axes in HRR pathway in tumors and plasma samples from BC patients. 

🔷Our results highlight the difference between TNBC and non-TNBC tumor subgroups regarding the dysregulation of the key miRNA/mRNA axes involved in the HRR pathway. Also, for the first time, we show that the level of cell-free miR-182-5p in plasma samples from BC patients could be a clue for screening BC patients eligible for receiving PARP inhibitors through a personalized manner.

Prospect of exosomal circular RNAs in breast Cancer: presents and future

🔹Implementing precision oncology for breast cancer (BC) is a critical method for improving patient outcomes, which relies on the use of reliable biomarkers.

🔹Exosomes represent a potential alternative for the diagnosis and therapy of BC, As a “liquid biopsy” and a novel source for biomarkers.

🔹Circular RNAs (circRNAs) were recently revealed as a looping subclass of competing endogenous noncoding RNAs (ceRNAs) capable of microRNA sponging to regulate gene expression.

🔹CircRNAs are abundant in exosomes, according to various studies, and exosomal circRNAs (exo-circRNAs) play a significant role in cancer biology.

🔹Exo-circRNAs can be picked up by nearby or distant cells, affecting many features of the target cells’ pathophysiological states, thus boosting cell communication and tumor spread.

The role of epigenetic modifications in drug resistance and treatment of breast cancer

🌀It has recently been reported that epigenetic processes such as DNA methylation and histone modification, as well as microRNAs (miRNAs), have potently contributed to the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer.

🌀Herein we discuss the molecular and epigenetic mechanisms underlying breast cancer progression and resistance as well as various aspects of epigenetic-based therapies as monotherapy and combined with immunotherapy.

We are delighted to share the last comprehensive review paper, Commercialization and regulation of regenerative medicine products: Promises, advances and challenges, published in Biomedicine & Pharmacotherapy.

We discussed in this paper on regenerative medicine products, emphasizing that:

• All efforts in regenerative medicine must proceed through in silico, in vitro, in vivo, and clinical trials before they can move from the bench to the bedside.

• Due to extensive regulations, principles, and financial requirements, a few regenerative medicine products have been commercialized.

• Various monitoring centers promote the evaluation and commercialization of these products under design control procedures.

• This comprehensive review includes the development, processes, regulatory concerns, and immunological considerations of regenerative medicine.
