Chaos came to the Middle East. The war resulted in hundreds of thousands of civilian deaths, the exacerbation of the conflict between Sunnis and Shiites, and the emergence of ISIS*.
Iraq has not still recovered from the tragic consequences. Medicine, education, and industry are in decline, and only oil production is prospering, but these natural resources alone are not enough to fill the budget and solve the myriad problems facing the nation. ‘We still see no stability in the state. A growing number of people live below the poverty line,’ says former refugee Mukhalled Hazem.
Discover more in our new film, US Invaders: Iraq 20 years on.

‘[There’s] a real concentration camp in the Odessa region, where people are held because they don’t want to take up arms and die in a war with Russia,’ claimed Yuri Barbashov, head of the administration of the Snegiryovka district in Kherson region. The man says the people are forced to go, fight and likely to die in battle, as they are sent absolutely unprepared for war. Barbashov explains that by this, the Ukrainian side wants to cause anger and hate towards Russia among the relatives of the tortured people.
The Ukrainian military has no mercy on people – that’s what the subjects of our documentaries say. These are the people who have witnessed the atrocities themselves. For example, Hiermonk Feofan was kidnapped right from the monastery. Listen to him in our excerpt. Also, check out the stories of others in Young Guard Reborn and Donbass War: Summer 2014.

On this date, the UN has prepared a rating of the world's happiest countries. Finland took the first place for the sixth year in a row.
But if opinion polls were the only criterion, then North Korea would become the leader. Its inhabitants consider themselves the happiest people in the world, and call their country a superpower. Watch an excerpt from the film The Happiest People on Earth (2017). It's a unique video as it was filmed in the most closed state in the world.

‘Saying anything that contradicts the official narrative is declared terrorism,’ says Mark Bartalmai, a film director and journalist from Germany, about covering events in Donbass.
When Bartalmai arrived there, he realized the situation was completely different from what the Europeans were told by the official media. He spent 3 years in Donbass, visited hot spots, risked his life and filmed what was unfolding before his eyes. Later, he released a documentary that has changed his life forever. He is no longer allowed to work in German’s newspapers like before, was investigated by state’s internal secret service and suspected in belonging to a criminal terrorist organization. Despite all this, Bartalmai says he doesn’t regret anything. Listen to the man in our video.
Also, watch our film Donbass: That’ why I’m Here. It’s about other foreign journalists, who risk lives and careers for revelatory reports.

The governor of Wyoming has signed the nation's first law separate from an overall abortion ban. Do you think it will be effective or will there just appear more illegal abortions?
According to the new law, prescribing, selling and using drugs ‘for the purpose of procuring or performing an abortion' is illegal. Violation of this ban could be punishable of up to 6 months imprisonment and a fine of up to $9,000. The law goes into effect on July 1.
A real battle has raged around the right to abortion in the US since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, leaving individual states free to outlaw abortion. Listen to both sides of the debate in our circle videos below. Watch the documentary Abort Me Not, too.

🚲 The viral video shows an older white man holding a young black guy by the throat, accusing him for allegedly stealing his neighbour's bike. After the release of the footage, the police opened an investigation, and now Robert Walczykowski, 62, is awaiting a court decision.
The second person in the video is Trevon Burks, 24, who, as his family claims, suffers from disabilities. Many net users insist the incident occurred because the young man is Black and they blame the elderly individual for being intolerant. And what do you think? Did Walczykowski overstep the boundaries?
By the way, March 21 is International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. This day, we’d like to share our film Black Lives: Struggle with you. It’s about the Black Americans, living in St. Louis, who say they’ve been neglected by the authorities and are trying to survive in harsh conditions.

‘This Is Fine’: Video Shows French Dining As City Burns — Sparks Mockery
A viral social media video purportedly shows diners in Lyon, France, enjoying dinner while the cafe windows are shrouded in flames in the background — amid ongoing protests against the recent pension reform laws.
It’s not yet known whether the video is 100% legitimate - but online commenters were quick to note the similarities between the “This is fine” meme and the video showing a child on a swing as a house burns down behind.

❗️🇩🇪🇷🇺Prepare Nord Stream from summer - Berlin is considering restoring the pipeline just in case
Prime Minister of Saxony said that it is important to restore Russian-German relations and the pipeline. According to him, Germany should "have a choice of energy sources.”
💬 "Nord Stream needs to be repaired today so that there is an option in five years," the politician believes.
Of course, not much will change from one man's statements. However, the EU will probably think about supply diversification much sooner than in five years - for example, next winter, which may not be as warm as the previous one.
Washington profits handsomely from an energy-dependent Europe. But having competitors is an obvious disadvantage. So it makes sense that Americans would want to eliminate the threat to their monopoly.

‘We got shelled by a Ukrainian tank. A flash of light, no one understood anything! I tried to reach the radio in front of me, but I couldn’t move my hands,’ remembers Vitaly Beskishkay. The man went to the front as a driver, then became a regular soldier. In one of the battles, he was seriously wounded and lost both his legs.
Vitaly received a prosthesis in a Kursk clinic, which operates free of charge and raises funds so that everyone is able to afford the expensive procedure. Now the former soldier is learning to walk again. Those who have gone through the rehabilitation process warn that it will take a long time to learn to walk again, but the man is brave, willing to live and, as he says, ‘has big plans’. What are they? Find out in our clip.
Listen to the stories of other injured Donbass veterans in our documentary Walking After War.
