These are refugee camps in Pakistan where whole families with kids, pregnant women and elderly live in ill-equipped tents, awaiting for winter with fear.

‘Our village is flooded with water and we are sitting outside in this weather. It is cold but we have neither sweaters nor beds,' says refugee camp resident Khadim Jatoi. People are desperate, and don’t know who to ask for help as next week's temperatures may plunge below zero.

Khadim and others lost their homes due to the massive floods in June. The catastrophe was considered the worst in the country's history, impacting the lives of more than 33 million people. Many locals blame the government for not doing enough to assist them.

How the 'Trash Town' of Zabbaleen Recycles

Zabbaleen is a world-famous dump-town where the trash from all of Egypt is brought. Entire families, including children, work here. For them, it’s a way to survive. And it’s not an easy job. ‘Our work is exhausting. Sometimes we carry 50 kg bags up to the 5th floor and take them back down again. This work saps the strength out of us!’ says Mina Karam, a garbage collector.

Over the decades they have developed an effective system for processing household refuse, recycling around 85 percent of the rubbish they collect - more than some European countries.

On Recycling Day, which some countries observe on November 15, watch an episode from our documentary Zabbaleen: Trash Town and discover more on the local recycling system.

US adds rainbow colours to team logo ahead of World Cup in Qatar.

The new logo shows the traditional shield but now features seven stripes of different colours. In this way the US squad says it is showing their support for the LGBTQ+ community.

‘When we are on the world stage and when we are in a venue like Qatar, it’s important to bring awareness to these issues,’ the team’s coach commented. It seems LGBTQ+ propaganda in the US is going beyond the county’s borders.

Perhaps the change was decided upon after the ambassador of the World Cup in Qatar called homosexuality a ‘damage in the mind’. The Arab country said it welcomes everybody, but visitors should respect the nation’s culture. It’s known that in Qatar, public displays of affection by anyone are frowned upon. This made thousands of LGBTQ+ fans doubt whether to attend the World Cup or even watch it on TV.

Do you think that changing logo is a challenge to Qatar’s traditions?

‘Do not bring weapons to Kiev’, ‘USA/NATO stop war in Ukraine’ – carrying placards with such slogans, hundreds of people joined protests in Leipzig, Germany where they rallied against arms deliveries in Ukraine and inflation. Video footage shows there were also those against the protest. People went on a sit-in, preventing demonstrators from moving while resisting the police.

In France, Italy and other European countries, people are unhappy with their government’s decisions, which are throwing their economies into decline and making citizens endure hardships. Amid an ongoing energy crisis, ordinary Europeans are urging the authorities to take care of their own citizens, who are in fear of coming winter amid soaring energy prices. The protesters are demanding the reopening of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and the end of the sanctions imposed on Russia.

The rallies were predicted by experts a long time ago – at the very beginning of anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the European countries. So, what is next? Find out in Sanctions: Boomerang Effect.

Migingo: The Iron-clad Island

‘They don’t have jobs, so during the day they [women] sell themselves. It’s the same at night. A woman can serve seven people a night.’

Violet, an African woman, describes what the residents of tiny Migingo, one of the most densely populous islands in the world, are forced to do. The island is located in Kenya, Africa, in the middle of Lake Victoria. The people live on a small piece of land – just about 2,000 square meters. However, there are stores, cafes, a church and even a brothel. RT Documentary reporters visited the island to find out how 150 people farm on land that is the size of half a soccer field. Discover it and other surprising facts in Migingo: The Iron-clad Island (2015).

‘Diversity Wins’ - that is the slogan being displayed on a plane bringing the German national team to the World Cup in Qatar.

The company welcomes everyone aboard, regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, religion, nationality, identity or sexual orientation,’ commented the airline in social networks alongside photos of the redecorated plane. Some net users assumed that among the people depicted on the plane there are gays, trans and lesbians.

It looks as though this sort of messaging is becoming a trend. Earlier, the US national team added rainbow colours to their logo ahead the championship to show their support for the LGBTQ+ community. Qatar is famous for its conservative views, while just a few days ago the country’s ambassador of the event called homosexuality ‘a damage in mind’.

Doesn't the German airline show disrespect to Qatar's values?

Stoning, amputation and public execution have returned to Afghanistan. These punishments are all provided for in Sharia law, and judges must now strictly follow them in sentencing.

Such punishments are meted out to murderers, thieves, kidnappers, seditionists, and those who have committed adultery or even consumed alcohol.

The Taliban regained power after US troops withdrew from the country in August 2021. At that time, the Islamic fundamentalist group promised they would not impose harsh rule as they did during the previous period of their rule (1996-2001). Now everything is back to what it was before the U.S. military arrived. But even their presence has done more harm to civilians than good, while the United States itself has spent more than $2 trillion on the 20-year war in Afghanistan.

For a better understanding of what the country went through, check out our documentaries:

🔹 Don’t Sell Me, Mama! (2022); Due to a famine in Afghanistan, parents are forced to sell their daughters to buy food. For many Afghans, it’s the only way not to die.

🔹 Afghanistan’s Loud, Mute Voices (2022); Students at the School for the Deaf and Mute think beyond the classroom to fight against poverty in the country. They paint pictures, write poems, make donation boxes and more.

🔹 US Prison for Afghanistan (2021); In 2001, the U.S. launched a military operation against the Taliban and al-Qaeda. But it was the ordinary people who suffered the most. The documentary was filmed a month before the Taliban came to power.

🔹 Afghanistan after the US (2021); The film tells the story of the 20-year conflict between the U.S. and the Taliban in Afghanistan and where the Taliban came from.

🔹 Afghan Overdose (2015); RT Documentary visited Afghanistan to film the police's losing battle against opium makers and its effect on the rest of the country - the world’s largest producer of opium and heroin. How does the massive and life-destroying industry continue to flourish? Find out in the film.

Bulgaria to set up committee on firewood shortages. Yes, winter hasn't gone away.

The committee will review the issues with regards to the high prices of firewood for the 2022/2023 heating season and to elaborate proposals for solving the problem.

The escalation of the situation happened at the end of April, as Bulgaria introduced anti-Russian sanctions and refused to pay Russia in rubles under the new scheme. The gas deliveries were stopped accordingly. Officials say, since then, the demand for firewood in the country has increased three times compared with last year. In the past three months wood harvesting has hit a record high - 135% of last year’s harvest. Consequently, prices have doubled. If in August of 2021 one cubic meter of sawn and chopped firewood cost $47-52, in August of 2022 it cost $94. The high demand forced Bulgaria’s government to ban the export of timber, and to assure residents that it has enough firewood for the coming cold season.

Be sure to watch our insightful documentary Sanctions: Boomerang Effect, where experts long ago predicted problems following anti-Russian sanctions.

Are you amazed with the 50- centimeter biceps that impressed Biden yet? ‘His biceps are as big as my calves!’ said the US president as he practically grabbed at the Russian cameraman's hand.

For those who missed it: during the G20 summit in Bali, President Joe Biden was wowed by Russian cameraman Yuri Sholmov whose bicep measures 50 centimeters.

Emmanuel Macron also praised Sholmov for his great physique. ‘If he [Macron] had let RT into the Elysee Palace, our guys would have shown him more than that,’ Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova wrote in her channel.

Watch our video and share if you think Biden’s reaction was appropriate.
