❄️ Dior featured its Christmas collection laden with Russian culture and was universally reviled for it.

The fashion brand revealed photos of a snowy forest complete with birch trees so popular in Russia. Moreover, many net users noticed the presented outfits resemble indigenous Russian clothes with a heavy emphasis on lace, pearls, ornaments and kaftans with scarves.

Opinions were divided. Some users were enraged and said: ‘How can you promote Russian culture now?’, while others were amazed: ‘Russian motives, how beautiful!’

However, Dior’s new collection is exclusive - an exception to the fashion rules. Other fashion brands, like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Prada decided they will not have anything to do with Russia. But Dior is revealing a new collection evidently inspired by Russian aesthetics. What does that mean in the grand scheme of things?

Discover even more on how Russia’s culture is getting cancelled all around the world in Killing Russian Culture.

Ivan Maslov, a resident of Lugansk, survived tortures by militants of the Aidar* battalion. He was held in a secret prison, which was located in a sausage factory in the village of Polovinkino. ‘They’d bang your head on the wall,’ Ivan recalls.

He was captured in the summer of 2014 at a time when Maslov was a militiaman and was on duty at a roadblock. There was a report of gunfire, and he together with his commander went to check it out. Aidar* militants fired on the servicemen’s car and took them prisoner. A month later Ivan was released. Humiliation did not break him, however, and he went back to fight.

Watch our video and the new film Young Guard Reborn about his story.

📣The world's major media outlets are urging charges against Assange be dropped. Have they begun to understand something? Share your opinion on the creator of WikiLeaks in the comments.

A letter to Washington was sent by the outlets that published excerpts of 250,000 classified documents 12 years ago. These files had been obtained by Assange from different sources. The newspapers subsequently published sensational headlines regarding alleged US war crimes. This eventually led to Assange having to flee the country, to get away from US authorities.

Now, The New York Times, The Guardian, The Times, Le Monde, El País, and Der Spiegel are arguing that the prosecution of the WikiLeaks founder threatens freedom of speech in the US, saying: ‘Holding governments accountable is part of the core mission of a free press in a democracy.

Many of the files concern allegations of US government crimes. The video shows gruesome footage of the killing of civilians in Iraq during the war there (2003-2011). The US military shot people, including children, and Reuters reporters.

Julian Assange is now in prison in the UK, which wants to extradite him to the US. There he could be sentenced to up to 175 years in prison. Discover more about the Australian fighter for truth in our film - Assange Story.

👤Non-binary US energy official faces prison for alleged theft.

Sam Brinton, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Spent Fuel and Waste Disposition, is accused of stealing luggage at an airport in September. The bag and contents had an estimated value of more than $2,300. Brinton is now on leave from his post and if convicted, could face up to five years in prison, a $10,000 fine or even both.

Brinton, who identifies as non-binary, denied committing a crime, saying the clothes where theirs when they opened the bag. Brinton said they only realized the mistake in the hotel, but worried people would think they’d stolen the bag and didn’t know what to do. So, they simply decided to keep travelling with it.

Brinton is well known for some unusual ‘hobbies’ having admitted to having sex with animals and enjoying sexual ‘pup play’. Americans are finding it hard to understand how such a person could be offered a post in the administration. The case of the ‘stolen’ baggage provoked a real Twitterstorm, with net users’ reacting to in our post.

Should such a person be part of the US, or any, government?

🍽Could Christmas dinner be unaffordable for some Britons?

Anti-Russian sanctions have plunged the country into an energy crisis, while prices have skyrocketed for nearly all goods and services.

Two-thirds of British residents fear they simply won’t have enough money to put food on the Christmas table. ‘If so, many people are worried they can’t even afford one of the most important meals of the year. It’s a red flag that poverty is creeping further into our communities,’ said Lieutenant Colonel Dean Pallant of the Salvation Army international charity.

Life is getting more expensive across Europe. In Greece, some people plan to economize on gifts for children, while others intend to make them themselves.

The West does not intend to lift anti-Russian sanctions. It only comes up with new ones. How are the restrictions affecting ordinary people’s lives? Watch Ice Station Europe to find out.

🌋The world’s largest active volcano keeps erupting in Hilo, Hawaii.

The photos show the Mauna Loa, which started to erupt several days ago for the first time in 40 years. Onlookers note that the view is ‘spectacular’.

Lava is flowing at a temperature of 1,000 degrees Celsius, but the U.S. Geological Service say it pose no threat to Hawaiians for now. Even though there has been no evacuation order, some people are leaving their homes but the majority of locals have stayed and say they aren’t afraid.

If some think it’s exciting to live near a volcano, residents of Jharia, India don’t think so. The city is built on subterranean coal seams that on fire. Continuously burning coal layers cause active fires underground. It sometimes causes enormous sinkholes to appear in the ground, which suck in everything nearby. What is that keeps the locals from moving away and what’s it like to live here? Find the answers in, Inferno Village.
