فَفِرُّوا إِلَى اللَّـهِ إِنِّي لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ
“Flee towards God. Indeed, I am a plain warner to you from Him.”

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ أُمَمٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُم بِالْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
“We have certainly sent [apostles] to nations before you, then We seized them with stress and distress so that they might entreat [Us].”

We should beg the exalted God to extend His mercy upon His creatures. This requires us all to purify our hearts and restore our relationships with one another. And to turn to all that is good, and finally to pray sincerely to the source of our sustenance. We must pray that He lifts this calamity from us.

We will gather online for half an hour to pray to ask for His mercy. It will be on Thursday evening, March 26, 2020 at 8:00 PM.

‍ From a hadith attributed to Imam Jafar as-Sadeq (P), he tells a story about the Israelites and the blessings of their prayer:

Once, the Israelites were condemned to a punishment that would last 400 years. 230 years in, they made the decision to gather for 40 days to pray, beg, and supplicate to God Almighty for His grace and forgiveness. After the 40 days, God accepted their repentance and as a result, their sentence of 400 years was cut by 170 years.

Is this not clear direction from Imam Sadeq (P) to all of us? Currently in Imam Mahdi’s (P) occultation, with our world distressed and where we yearn for his reappearance, this story tells us that through our collective prayer and supplication, we can ask God Almighty to hasten the reappearance of our Awaited Imam (P).

Our plan is to gather for 40 nights, from the birthday of our beloved Imam Mahdi (P) to the 25th of the holy month of Ramadan. We pray, beg, and supplicate to God Almighty to hasten the coming of the Awaited Imam.

We will recite Ziyara Ashura and then call upon Allah 40 times with this prayer:

“O mankind! Indeed, We created you from a male and a female, and made you nations and tribes that you may identify yourselves with one another. Indeed the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the most Godwary among you. Indeed Allah is all-knowing, all-aware.” (Al-Hujurat, 49:13)

It is difficult to find words that will do justice to the heaviness in our hearts in this moment. The Awaited Imam Mahdi Edification (AIME) Association is shocked and angered by the tragic murders of George Floyd, and countless others we know and some that we don’t at the hands of those in uniform and those without uniforms.

There is no place for racism, prejudice, and hatred in our local, national, and global community. All lives matter, but for centuries in our country, that has not included Black lives, and that is simply unacceptable. The United States of America is at a pivotal point and history will look back on our actions in this moment, and we must do our best to make sure we are on the right side of it.

As believers in AhlulBayt (P), we have a greater responsibility to stand against any kind of oppression and injustice, and furthermore as those who await an Imam (P) who will come and rid the world of injustice and oppression, we should make sure we are not contributing to such injustice and oppression. We all have a role to play in these trying times, and no action is too small.

Change doesn't happen overnight. Here is where you can start:

• Reflect on yourself and recognize your own implicit biases and prejudice – particularly as it relates to Black men and women. Further understand how your culture’s history has profited from and promotes anti-Blackness.
• Understand your privilege, and how even those who are not white can still benefit from racial privilege.
• Have difficult conversations with your family and community. Break the stigma of these discussions and promote an inclusive and active conversation with all members of your circle.
• Teach your children about the injustices done to the Black community and other oppressed groups.
• Show solidarity with Black Americans, Black Africans, and all members of our Black communities.

We recognize that we need to improve inclusivity for our Black brothers and sisters within our own community, and we are committed to working towards that goal. We ask for your support and active participation in this effort.
