Dear AIME high school students,

We would like to inform you about an exciting opportunity to do research and benefit from mentorship and career support from Health Services Research Program (HSMP) at George Mason University. One of our young AIME members has co-founded this program, in which they work with high school students in the area of Health Services and help them build their research knwoledge and experience. AIME Association would like you to know about this opportunity and take advantage of it. Please see the following denoscription of the program, and apply if you are interested.

"George Mason's chapter of Academy Health is offering a new high school program this school year to all students in the DMV area. This program will focus on health services research and will provide many research and mentorship opportunities for students. The Health Services Research Program (HSMP) will have three main components: career & professionalism, health services research, and diversity in healthcare. All topics will be presented 100% online and free of charge to students. The different topics will be addressed through a combination of seminars and discussions supported by Mason undergraduate/graduate students, faculty members of George Mason University, and community professionals. In the second semester, students will engage in research with the goal of presenting their findings at a symposium and publishing their results.

"The application cycle closes October 6th at 5:00 PM and the applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. All applicants must also conduct an interview as a part of the application. If you have any questions or would like to request more information, please email frafie@gmu.edu"

Juan Cole:
Richard P. Mitchell Collegiate Professor of history at the University of Michigan and the author of "Muhammad: Prophet of Peace Amid the Clash of Empires" book. This book applies a novel method to elicit the history and life of Prophet Muhammad using Quran as a primary source, and considers the books in history of Islam as secondary sources. In this book he shows how Prophet Muhammad came of age in an era of unparalleled violence: The eastern Roman Empire and the Sasanian Empire of Iran fought savagely throughout the Near East and Asia Minor. He, the Prophet of Peace, spread peace and co-existence among different religions.
