A Russian Special Forces FPV drone strike on a Ukrainian Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) west of Crimea. A Russian reconnaissance drone provided intelligence, including coordinates for the USVs, before the FPV drones flew in and destroyed them.

Footage like this is quite rare for this war.

Regarding the situation in Stupochky, south of Chasiv Yar - Kostyantynivka direction.

Following the sudden Russian advance which broke through Ukrainian positions in the eastern part of Stupochky, resulting in them occupying around 60% of the village, Ukrainian forces have begun counterattacking.

The AFU is attacking from multiple directions, including from the southern outskirts of the Zemlyanky district of Chasiv Yar, and the southern street of Stupochky. Russian forces from the 1442nd Motorised Rifle Regiment of the 6th Motorised Rifle Division are holding their positions, having repelled at least five Ukrainian counterattacks over the past 5 days. The fighting is extremely fierce with Ukrainian forces doing anything they can to recapture this small, but heavily fortified and tactically important village.

Nevertheless, the Ukrainian command realises that they are only prolonging the inevitable push to Kostyantynivka (although this will only occur once the Toretsk front is at least partially levelled and/or Chasiv Yar finally falls). New fortifications are being constructed outside Kostyantynivka, especially in the Stupochky direction. Ukrainian soldiers are fortifying the outskirts of the city with soldiers, and tanks have been deployed to the area. Requests have been made for Russian artillery and tactical aviation to monitor strike these newly established strongpoints, although it appears that this has not been done on a large or effective scale yet, if at all.

The Ukrainian command appears to be taking advantage of the incredibly slow Russian progress in this area by using their time that their units putting up fierce resistance in this area have bought, to build new strongpoints, further increasing the density of the fortified territory and make it even more difficult for Russia to reach the city. The topography of the stretch between Stupochky and Kostyantynivka will play a role, and it is certainly not in Ukraine's favour, however this does not necessarily mean that advance won't be slow, grinding, costly and difficult for Russia.

Further information on the tactical situation around the village of Troitske - the second to last village before Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. Ukrainian forces are holding a defence in two main areas - on the treeline north of Troitske, and the treeline northeast…
Well, we got our answer. Russia has opted to storm the Ukrainian buffer-zone around Troitske rather than go through the already established weak spot through the open fields.

The remnants of the Ukrainian buffer zone were completely dismantled, with the 80th Tank Regiment seizing the rest of the treeline northeast of Troitske, and the fortified positions to the east. Ukrainian forces have retreated into the village itself.

It seems Russia realised the losses that they could sustain if they moved through that weak spot and decided to take the longer route of seizing the flanks. It remains to be seen what the effect Ukraine's control over Bohdanivka will have on the assault on Troitske and if Russia will choose to recapture it before they move on to Troitske.

Either way, the battles for Troitske would make a good case study in the future for how Russia attacks small villages like this, and methods used to minimise casualties and maximise results while ensuring that the advances aren't suicidal.

A map update on this will come later.

Zelensky has warned that Ukraine will not offer any guarantees for foreign representatives travelling to Moscow for the May 9 Victory Parade. He cited his concerns over possible Russian false flag attacks, including arson and explosions.

"Our position is very simple for all countries planning to go or already heading to Russia on May 9: we cannot be held responsible for what happens on the territory of the Russian Federation," he said in an interview with the Ukrainian political and economic news agency "Interfax-Ukraine".

He recommended not to visit Russia "from a safety standpoint", but that if people do choose to go, they should not ask the Ukrainian foreign ministry, adding that it "is your personal decision".

A Russian Su-30SM fighter jet was shot down by an R-73 air-to-air missile remotely launched by a Ukrainian Unmanned Surface Vehicle (also known as a drone boat), over the waters of the Black Sea, off the coast of Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai. The missile was modified to be launched as a surface-to-air missile.

The drone lured the Russian Su-30 into the area, before launching its missile towards the jet, shooting it down. Both pilots successfully ejected but were stranded out at sea for multiple hours. Due to the presence of drones in the waters nearby, it was too difficult for them to be airlifted out as there was a threat of further missiles shooting down any helicopters. Eventually a civilian ship departed from the port and rescued the pilots despite the still heavy presence of drone boats in the area. Ukrainian drones did not attack the vessel. The pilots were transported to the shore and are both alive.

One of the issues Russia has is identifying which drones are equipped with missiles and which are just normal suicide drones. Due to the constant threat of surface-to-air missile fire, the Russian Air Force has to be careful in attacking the drones. On 31 December 2024, R-73 missiles launched from Ukrainian USVs successfully shot down one Russian Mi-8 helicopter and damaged a second. Some of the drones may also be equipped with FPV drones, torpedoes, or even MLRS.

A lot of Russian channels are claiming that Russian troops have broken through into Hryhorivka (Siversk direction) and consolidated positions in the village. This is not the case.

Below I have attached some screenshots of what the houses in this village look like. As you can see, there are no houses, just piles of bricks and the odd opening into a basement. Most of these basements are sealed off by bricks and bits of house or partially collapsed inwards. The Russian soldiers that do enter the village are often spotted running to the few basements which can be used as positions, and often dont have time to dig out ones that have been sealed off, before being spotted and hit by FPV drones.

Ukraine does not hold a presence in most of Hryhorivka. The whole village is covered by FPV drones being controlled from operators in the basements of ruined apartment buildings back in Siversk. The whole village is under constant 24/7 surveillance and Ukraine doesn't seem to have a shortage of drones here.

To take Hryhorivka, Russia will need to capture the strongpoints and trenches in the large forests to the south and envelop the village (the northern flank is protected by the Siversky Donets River). Otherwise, sending troops directly into the ruins is useless as there are literally no Ukrainian soldiers there and few actual positions to capture.
