Update from the Toretsk direction:

Geolocated footage indicates that Russian forces continue to break through Ukrainian positions, making incremental gains in the northern sector, and localised breakthroughs in the southern sector.

Firstly, Geolocated footage indicates that Russian forces advanced from the settlements of Novoselivka and Troitske, managing to break through the 8 year old fortifications in the southern part of Niu-York. Here they advanced in two directions: One on the eastern bank of the Kryvyi Torets river, and another along/near the railway line on the western bank of the river. Both vectors of attack were succesful, and Russian forces managed to capture most, if not all of southern Niu-York.

Additionally, the village of Yurivka on the western bank of the Kryvyi Torets river fell to the Russians after two days of intense fighting. However, the Russians' main focus was to advance as far north as possible, so Yurivka wasn't even completely captured until Russian forces reached central Niu-York. Fighting continued on the western outskirts of the village for at least a day.

Following the Russian advance of more than 4.6km, Ukrainian forces launched a counterattack consisting of one Bradley infantry fighting vehicle and an assault group. The attack was successful and Ukrainian forces regained positions in houses near the centre of Niu-York.

Despite their best efforts in counterattacking, entrenched Ukrainian soldiers to the east of this advance remain at a significant risk of encirclement, and it is possible that they withdrew from their positions there in order to prevent this.

On the eastern bank of the Kryvyi Torets river, Russian forces advanced north for at least 3.76km up Zalizna, Pershotravneva and Chapayeva streets, approaching the intersections with Teatralnyy street.

Moving further north, Russian forces continue to advance in Pivnichne, taking advantage of the original local breakthrough in and around the village of Shumy. Here the high-rise residential micro-district was captured following intense gun battles. This advance means two things: Russian forces have now bypassed the main Ukrainian fortifications in the forest, and now have a strong foothold inside Pivnichne, and control the strongest part of the town. This means that they will be able to funnel troops into this foothold and expand their control to the rest of the settlement, scattering infantry amongst the houses.

Overall, while some sources claim that the situation is stabilising, in reality, the situation remains critical for the AFU. The manpower shortages and poor communication are having their effects on Ukrainian defensive operations shown to the world. These are positions that should not have been lost. The Toretsk direction was arguably the best defended section of the frontline following the fall of Avdiivka.
