Regarding the situation in South Sudan:

- 2 days ago, Ugandan helicopters and fighter jets carried out airstrikes on the Akobo region of SPLM-IO-controlled South Sudan in the northeastern part of the country.

- Heavy Ugandan military reinforcements were recorded arriving in towns and cities at the line of contact (ceasefire line), including the towns of Bilait, Bor and Fajak. Uganda supports South Sudanese President Fiir against Vice president Machar. Machar is the leader of the SPLM-IO party and militia.

- South Sudanese president Kiir ordered the arrest of Vice President Machar, who was subsequently arrested after his residence was reportedly stormed by security forces. Machar was in Juba to sign peace agreements with the African Union.

- The Ugandan Armed Forces deployed throughout the streets of the South Sudanese capital of Juba in support of President Kiir.

- Germany closed its embassy in South Sudan

- Norway closed all of its offices in South Sudan

- The UK embassy to South Sudan has reduced the number of staff working at its embassy.

It's official: The Sudanese capital of Khartoum has been fully recaptured by the Sudanese Armed Forces after a 700-day-long battle which started on April 15, 2023.

9 Russian children were executed by Ukrainian soldiers in Kursk Oblast and left to decompose. Russian soldiers found them rotting next to a forest and put them in body bags.

There have been lots of U.S. Air Force and Navy deployments in the Indian Ocean over the past few days.

7 B-2 "Spirit" stealth bombers are stationed at the joint US-UK Diego Garcia airbase in the Indian Ocean, along with 11 KC-135 refueling tankers. The KC-135 tankers departed from Amberly Air Base in eastern Australia. The B-2s departed from Whiteman Air Base in the U.S. state of Missouri.

The U.S. also deployed as many as 12 F-35 fighter jets from Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, 3 C-17 transport aircraft from Andersen Air Base in Guam, and sent an additional U.S. Navy aircraft carrier group led by the USS Carl Vinson, which is expected to arrive in early April. The USS Harry S. Truman carrier strike group is already in the region.

A no-fly zone is now in place over the Diego Garcia Air Base until May 1.
