In the official statement issued in connection with the 16th National Flag Day being celebrated today under the theme: “The prestige of our flag: A guarantee for unity and sovereignty”, the federal government said the flag of Ethiopia is the symbol of “our sovereignty, the emblem of our freedom and the embodiment of our glory.”

Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) aims to boost electricity export to neighboring countries to generate more revenue.
Last year, EEP exported 1701 GW of electricity to #Sudan, #Kenya, and #Djibouti, and want to increase it to 2993 GW this year, earning $182 million.

“The affair has perplexed all concerned observers,” Eritrea said.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed told a gathering of law makers that the issue of access to sea is “an existential matter for Ethiopia” and that Ethiopians should at least start discussing the Red Sea.

Halloo Daawwee, one of the pioneer Oromo artists who died late last Saturday at the age of 63 has just been laid to rest in Adama.
Halloo, who started singing at the age of only 14 years in Dire Dawa where she was born and raised, was cherished for her immense contribution to the development of Oromo art and the Oromo people’s political struggle.
She was able to produce more than 10 albums since she joined ‘Biftuu Biyya Keenyaa’ band in 1968 EC which was established after the legendary Afran Qallo band.
She had been ill and was receiving treatment in Adama until she passed away on Saturday. Her funeral took place in Adama in the presence of her fans, fellow musicians and government officials. AS

‘Catastrophic’ shortage of medical supplies in #GazaCity
The -#UK-based Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) group says hospitals in Gaza are facing a “catastrophic” shortage of medical supplies, amid Israel’s “total blockade”.
“Emergency, trauma and surgical supplies are rapidly running out at hospitals and health partners’ warehouses, with the entry of humanitarian supplies still not possible,” MAP’s Advocacy and Campaigns Manager in the West Bank, Aseel Baidoun, said.
“There is a shortage of blood. Medicine is in short supply.”
Baidoun added that there was also a shortage of healthcare workers, of whom several had been killed.
“The rest are exhausted not able to cope with the thousands of injuries they see every day. The Israeli air attacks have damaged 24 health facilities, including 16 hospitals and six other health facilities.”

Ethiopia's National ID Program (NIDP) is gaining traction in promoting its digital ID system through various partnership deals. The latest agreement has been made with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) country office in Ethiopia.
The UNICEF country director and the executive director of NIDP have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the registration of all residents in the country for the digital ID scheme. According to UNICEF Ethiopia's Facebook page, this partnership aims to provide a unique digital identity to vulnerable beneficiaries, including children, enabling them to access essential services.

Even in urban settings such as Addis Ababa’s Merkato, Ethiopia’s largest market, elders use traditional values and procedures to help resolve commercial disputes.
While there is limited acknowledgement in the constitution of their potential use to resolve family and personal disputes, the criminal justice system has, in practice, disregarded these traditional mechanisms altogether. This stems from the 1950s and ’60s when European experts overseeing the codification of Ethiopian laws purportedly omitted the traditions as incongruent with the modern legal system.
