Poverty in #Tigray has declined to 70 percent from an estimated 90 percent during the height of the war, the Tigray Bureau of Agriculture and Natural Resources reported, while cautioning that a large proportion of the population remains in what officials described as a “serious danger” situation.

#Commentary: From #Pretoria to Pandora’s Box: What new U.S. national security strategy means for peace in Horn of Africa, #Tigray
For decades, #Africa relied on #Washington as the ultimate arbiter of global order. Mulugeta Gebregziabher argues that “that era is over,” as the new #US National Security Strategy (#NSS) signals a withdrawal from the continent, except for token partnerships like #Kenya, now a “Major Non-NATO Ally.”
He warns that the Horn of Africa faces renewed peril, with #Ethiopia and #Eritrea edging toward war and the Pretoria Agreement in Tigray weakened by stalled implementation. With the U.S. pivoting away, Tigray must pursue multipolar engagement.
“The time for slogans is over,” Mulugeta emphasizes, adding, “The time for strategy and new generational strategic leadership is now.”
