More than 3,800 internally displaced households who returned from Sudan due to ongoing instability are living without humanitarian assistance at the Abiy Addi IDP center in #Tigray, according to information obtained by Addis Standard.
The returnees are part of approximately 13,131 displaced households at the site, many of whom arrived as early as 2022. Camp residents say humanitarian conditions have sharply deteriorated, with families sheltering in makeshift structures that have stood for nearly five years.
When contacted about federal claims that “uninterrupted support had been provided between September and December,” Abiy Addi camp coordinator Kidanemariam rejected the assertion.

#Sudanese civil groups slam #African_Union for backing government peace plan
Sudanese civil society organizations have criticized the African Union Commission for welcoming a peace initiative proposed by the government, calling the move a dangerous shift from regional consensus and a sign of institutional bias.
Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, on Tuesday, welcomed the peace initiative presented by the Sudanese Prime Minister Kamil Idris to the United Nations Security Council, describing it as a solid foundation for achieving sustainable peace.
The initiative includes several provisions, such as the withdrawal of the Rapid Support Forces from cities under its control to pre-agreed camps under #UN, #Arab, & #African supervision.
It also calls for the commencement of a disarmament process for these forces under international monitoring, alongside guarantees to prevent the redistribution of weaponry.

#Israel’s #Somaliland recognition puts it at odds with #Egypt

That preoccupation, however, has not altered Somalia’s reality. The fires beneath the ashes of its deep-seated problems have continued to smolder, including separatist tendencies, the activity of terrorist organizations, poverty, drought and other chronic challenges.
Israel’s recognition of the Somaliland region as an independent state has now stirred what had been relatively still waters, prompting a flurry of diplomatic contacts among several countries in the #Middle_East and #North_Africa, foremost among them Egypt.
In this context, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a series of calls on Friday with the foreign ministers of Somalia, #Turkey and #Djibouti, all of whom rejected the Israeli recognition.
