#US says peace plan for #Sudan to be revealed this week

The US has readied the text of a peace plan for Sudan's nearly three-year-old civil war that it says has the approval of the members of the "Quad", senior advisor to the US president on Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, revealed on Tuesday.

The Quad for Sudan is made up of the US Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Egypt.

The group had initially unveiled a coordinated roadmap back in September aimed at ending the fighting between the Sudanese army and the breakaway paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

"We've been working on this comprehensive peace plan for at least three months now that should be acceptable to both sides," Boulos said at a fundraiser held to gather pledges for immediate humanitarian aid for Sudan.

He added that he has heard "promising remarks" from Sudan's military chief, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and that the US has been....

News: #Egypt-based military drones have targeted #Sudan’s RSF for months, report says

A covert military airstrip in Egypt’s Western Desert has emerged as a key launch site for drone strikes inside Sudan, signaling Egypt’s direct entry into Sudan’s devastating civil war, according to an extensive investigation by The New York Times.

The report, based on satellite imagery, flight records, video analysis, and interviews with #American, #European, and #Arab officials, found that advanced military drones operating from Egypt have been conducting strikes against Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (#RSF) for at least 6 months.

The airstrip, located near the East Oweinat agricultural project close to the Sudanese border, is hidden amid vast wheat fields irrigated by fossil aquifers.

While the base appears civilian on the surface, satellite images reviewed by the newspaper show the construction of a second runway, at least 17 aircraft hangars, satellite communications....

Son of #Libya's late ruler Kadhafi killed by armed gang

Seif al-Islam #Kadhafi, the son of Libya's late longtime ruler, was killed Tuesday by gunmen who stormed his home in western Libya's #Zintan, his French lawyer Marcel Ceccaldi told AFP.

"He was killed today at 2:00 pm (1200 GMT)... in Zintan in his home by a four-man commando," Ceccaldi said.

Seif al-Islam, 53, had been seen by some as his father's successor, despite being targeted by a warrant from the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity.

In 2021 he announced he would run for president, but those elections were indefinitely postponed.

His adviser, Abdullah Othman Abdurrahim, told Libya's Al-Ahrar television channel that the four unidentified men had stormed the home before "disabling surveillance cameras, then executed him".

It remained unclear who was behind the killing.

Ceccaldi said that ....

#Opinion: Encircled and Exposed: #Berbera as #Ethiopia’s last strategic exit

Ethiopia’s status as the Horn’s stabilizer has eroded, leaving the nation “constrained, exposed, and increasingly boxed in” by unfriendly neighbors, writes Mohamed Guleid. He cautions that #Djibouti, Ethiopia’s maritime lifeline, has compromised its neutrality by agreeing to host an #Egyptian military presence, while #Eritrea and #Somalia align with #Cairo over the #Nile dispute.

Allowing adversaries to shadow its main supply route crosses a “strategic red line.” For a nation of 120 million, “diversification is no longer a luxury.”

Guleid argues the solution lies in Somaliland, highlighting that the Berbera Port and its corridor are operational but underused. He notes, “Recognition of Somaliland would change Ethiopia’s position overnight,” expanding sea access, easing pressure, and restoring strategic leverage.
