#TsedaleLemma speaks with #DanielBerhane.

News: #Ethiopia, #Qatar discuss resumption of meat exports ahead of Ramadan

Ethiopia and Qatar are working to resume meat exports that were previously suspended, following discussions between Ethiopia’s Minister of Agriculture Addisu Arega and Qatari Ambassador Saad bin Mubarak Al-Naimi.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, the two officials met on Thursday to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector, with particular focus on restoring Ethiopia’s meat exports to Qatar.

The discussions addressed technical and logistical issues that had interrupted the trade in the past. The ministry said both sides reached an understanding on measures that would allow Ethiopia to supply large volumes of meat products to the Qatari market beginning in the upcoming month of #Ramadan.

Officials described the resumption of meat exports as a strategic....

News: #UK sanctions six individuals over #Sudan war atrocities, mercenary recruitment

Mekelle - #Britain has imposed sanctions on six individuals accused of committing atrocities during Sudan’s ongoing war or of fueling the conflict through the recruitment of mercenaries and the supply of military equipment, the UK government announced on Thursday.

According to the statement, those targeted include senior commanders from both the Sudanese Armed Forces (#SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (#RSF), as fighting between the two rivals continues to devastate the country.

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, who recently visited the Sudan–#Chad border, stressed the urgency of ending the conflict. “We urgently need a ceasefire, and safe access for humanitarian relief agencies to reach all those in need,” she said.

“Through these sanctions, we will seek to dismantle the.....

News: #UN child Rights Committee raises alarm over grave violations against children in #Ethiopia

The United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (#CRC) has expressed alarm over what it described as a significant increase in grave violations against children in Ethiopia, including killing and maiming, sexual violence, abduction, and denial of humanitarian access, following its latest review session covering several State Parties.

Regarding children affected by armed conflicts, the Committee urged Ethiopia to comply with applicable international law, end and prevent grave violations, and allow timely and unimpeded humanitarian access.

It also called on the government to urgently facilitate access to encampments to enable identification of children and their transfer to civilian child protection actors, ensure accountability for perpetrators, and provide conflict-affected children with medical care, including reproductive health services, ......

#Egypt and #Saudi Arabia focus on Eritrea as UAE bolsters ties to #Ethiopia

The insular but strategically positioned Red Sea country of #Eritrea is coming under the radar of Arab capitals as a potential linchpin in Saudi Arabia and the #UAE’s #Red_Sea rivalry.

Two #Arab officials familiar with recent diplomacy told Middle East Eye that Egypt is trying to broker deeper security links between Eritrea and Saudi Arabia, with an eye towards checking the UAE’s influence as it increases military ties to Ethiopia.

The Arab officials told MEE that the developments are inspired by a defence deal struck between Sudan’s military and Pakistan in January. That agreement is widely understood to be financed by Saudi Arabia, although the weapons systems have yet to materialise.

MEE reported that #Pakistani chief of air staff Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, and Lieutenant General Turki bin Bander bin....

#Opinion: Generation of Peace, Builders of State: #Somaliland’s youth plea for recognition

Writing as a young Somalilander, Abdifataah Hussien Osman notes that “for more than three decades, the world has hesitated to recognize our existence,” despite the nation's stability. He argues that youth bear the “highest cost of non-recognition” through global exclusion.

However, #Israel’s recent recognition marks a historic shift that “symbolizes hope.” Osman states this decision transforms passports from “symbols of limitation into instruments of opportunity,” validating a generation's resilience.

He calls for the world to acknowledge a “country that works,” contending that “recognition is not a favor; re-recognition is justice delayed, now beginning to arrive.”

News: #Ethiopia accuses #Eritrea of territorial incursion, backing armed groups, demands troop withdrawal

Ethiopia has formally accused Eritrea of escalating military aggression by deploying troops deeper into Ethiopian territory and collaborating with armed groups operating along its borders, demanding the immediate withdrawal of Eritrean forces and an end to all support for rebel groups.

In a letter dated 7 February and addressed to Eritrean Foreign Minister #Osman_Saleh Mohammed, Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, #Gedion_Timothewos Hessebon, said Eritrean forces have, “for quite a considerable period,” occupied Ethiopian territory and provided material support to militant groups operating inside the country.

Gedion said repeated calls by Ethiopia to address what it describes as violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity have gone unanswered.

According to the letter, recent developments signal a “further escalation,” including what....
