Q: Why is it difficult for me to do the Morning Sitting?
Robert Fripp: When I begin to Do Nothing – as much as I can! - I find a strong resistance. This is how my everyday sense, of who I believe myself to be, asserts itself – thinkings, reactions, twitchings, distractions. My body mostly accepts direction and moves towards a degree of relaxation - enough to keep me upright on the chair, flexible, unforced. And then the thinkings fly around, as if without them I do not exist.
Fortunately, I know that I do not exist, so I bring this nothingness to bear upon that which demands to be something. What then? The electricity of life within the body switches on. It is always there, but I am not. And now I am, at least to a greater degree than a moment ago. This is a beginning. Then, I keep going.
