Umar Ibn Al-Khattab reported that the Prophet Muhammad (s.) said:
“The Kurds are a generation of those who are hidden (jinn), of whom the veil was uncovered. They were called Kurds because Solomon (a.) captured 80 girls from them during his campaign in India and settled them on an island, whereupon the Hidden (Jinn) came out of the sea and had intercourse with them. Therefore 40 girls of them became pregnant and when Solomon (a.) heard about it, he gave the order that they should leave the island and go to the land of the Persians. Thereupon they gave birth to 40 boys, and when they multiplied and caused mischief and committed highway robbery, they complained to Solomon (a.), who then said: “Drive them to the mountains! And for this reason they were called Kurds.”
