Dune review: it was good. 👍🏻
The real esoteric crux of Dune is in the "Spatial" extension of consciousness through time. Basically the series was one big meditation on the "Trolley Problem meme". In other words:
-You are a political leader (King, Emperor. Etc.)
-But you can also see into the future.
-You see into the future and see that no matter what, all time lines lead to a massive war that will kill trillions and will possibly extinguish the human race.
-the only way to avoid it is to start a premtive war that will only kill millions or perhaps a few billion.
-What do you do?
-And, how do people view your actions?
-When historians look back will they see what you were trying to prevent? Or will they only see a Tyrant who killed millions or billions?
Amongst his philosophical ideas are reflections on: Memory and identity (face dancers), Man's ability of Foresight, History and cultural stagnation, the study of the rise and fall of Civilizations through an Ecological lens, Secret of Language and Consciousness, "the Patchwork" as being the ultimate end of all political philosophy, Human Evolution as seen both through Biology and psychologically as different types of "Extensions" of human consciousness, plus many more ideas.
Frank Herbert in my mind was a real philosopher who instead of writing philosophy books that only 5 guys would read (if any) decided to embed his ideas in a "Narrative".
His 6 books that constitute the Dune series have amazing depth and I would encourage any and all occultists to sample his ideas.
The movies..... they alright. 👌🏻
