Many White South Africans are unwilling to embrace South Africa as it is today, betraying an apparent a nostalgia for what some of them refer to as 'the good old days' of the apartheid regime - for instance, by clinging on to memorials and symbols of apartheid. Continued……Post-apartheid, many White South Africans are fiercely opposed to progressive policies that would benefit Black South Africans. For instance, after the recent introduction of a new land-expropriation law - which seeks to create equality in land ownership in South Africa - many Afrikaners denounced the new policy, falsely alleging discrimination against them. This is ironic, as, during apartheid, Afrikaners widely supported the racist regime that repressed the country’s Black majority, including forcing them to live in segregated townships and rural ‘homelands.’

Niger has broken free from another colonial chain - the French language - by adopting Hausa as the country’s new national idiom. Hausa is indigenous to, and widely spoken in, West Africa. Along with fellow Alliance of Sahel States members Burkina Faso and Mali, Niger also recently ditched the body representing La Francophonie - i.e., the ‘French speaking’ world (or rather, those parts of the world that had French imposed on them by colonial France). Hausa is one of the most commonly spoken African languages. More Nigerians speak Hausa than French. In 2012, only 20% of Nigerians were literate in French. Switching to Hausa is a powerful affirmation of African heritage, identity and sovereignty.

WHY DID ZUMA VISIT HANI ASSASSINATION CONVICT?
Limpho Hani, the widow of South African anti-apartheid hero Chris Hani, has appealed to President Cyril Ramaphosa to open a new investigation into the 1993 assassination of her husband. Hani, who at the time was the leader of the South African Communist Party (SACP) and chief of staff of the African National Congress (ANC)’s armed wing, was shot dead outside his home on 10 April 1993.
The assassination, which happened at the height of delicate negotiations between the liberation movements and the apartheid government to end the oppressive racist system, has been a subject of speculation for decades. Despite the official investigation stating that the two right-wing racists, Janusz Waluś and Clive Derby-Lewis, who were arrested and convicted for the murder, were acting alone, many South Africans believe that more people were involved.

Certain ANC figures have insinuated that he could have been a regime collaborator and, conceivably, part of a plot by the establishment to kill Hani, whom they saw as uncompromising.
Reports that Zuma paid a prison visit to Derby-Lewis have only intensified speculation that the veteran intelligence supremo could have had prior links to the assassin’s accomplice, and to Waluś. Zuma’s supporters, however, dismiss this allegation as the work of his enemies in the ANC, whom they say are the ones who actually worked for the apartheid intelligence apparatus.

On 10 April 1948, courageous Cameroonian workers and trade unionists came together in the Chez Sierra bar in Bassa to found the Union of the Peoples of Cameroon, a revolutionary political party that would fight for Cameroon’s total independence.
The party cadres demonstrated immense commitment to the revolutionary struggle and the enduring fight for pan-African unity. The UPC fought and died for the independence and unity of Cameroon, as well as that of Africa - but they paid a terrible price.
In 1955, after the violent repression of protests led to an anti-colonial uprising, the UPC was outlawed in Cameroon. This year often marks the start of the Cameroon War. By 1960, president Ahmadou Ahidjo - backed by France - was waging a genocidal war against not just the UPC but also the Bamiléké people, among whom the party enjoyed significant support.
