SUPPORT THE AES: EVERYONE HAS A ROLE TO PLAY

The Pan-African revolution is here. It is no longer limited to the realm of theory. Instead, it is underway in the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), comprising Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

In this video clip from a July 2024 podcast episode, African Stream Editor-in-Chief Ahmed Kaballo reminded us that everyone has a role to play in defending the Sahel revolution.
15🎉8💯1
Continued……Over the past few years, these three countries in Africa’s Sahel region successfully ousted Western-aligned leaders through people-backed coups d’état. Since then, the AES was formed on 6 July 2024 to share policies for greater collaboration to eventually create a Pan-African federal state. The dream is to build continental-wide governance.

As Kaballo said, if you’re a filmmaker, use your skills to share the AES revolution on screen. If you’re a writer, write articles about the AES. If you’re a teacher, teach your students about the revolution or send resources to the Thomas Sankara Center @burkinabooks (IG) in Burkina Faso and Niger. If you’re an academic, defend the Sahel in your research. If you’re a lawyer, use international law to protect the three countries under attack by neo-colonial ‘human rights’ institutions. These are just a few ways to contribute, as everyone has a role to play.

Africans, this is our revolution, and we may only have one shot at defending it. Time and time again, imperialists have overthrown our revolutionary processes, k*lled our leaders and destroyed our countries, leaving the masses of our people in destitution. We can put an end to this. But only if we go all out this time. We must defend and protect the Alliance of Sahel States.

FATHER CHARGED WITH COP MURDER DAY AFTER POLICE FATALLY SHOOT SON

On 1 May 2025, US police gunned down another young Black man: 18-year-old Ryan Hinton. Officers in Ohio reportedly killed him after claiming he was pointing a gun at them. Released body-cam footage leaves that assertion unclear. A un-used gun was retrieved at the scene. Hinton was reportedly fleeing from a stolen vehicle. Adding to the family tragedy is that his father, Rodney Hinton Jr., has since been arrested on suspicion of killing a police officer by deliberately running him over - he’s been charged with aggravated murder. Reports suggest he had been left distraught after being shown the body-cam footage by police.

Continued….. For years, the US has grappled with racially motivated state violence and structural injustice. The emotional impact of such events on families and communities is incalculable. The push for police reform appears to have diminished five years on from the 2020 murder of George Floyd.

According to a Statista report, US police fatally shot 1,173 civilians last year. 248 of them were Black. Furthermore, the rate of fatal police shootings among Black individuals was significantly higher than that of any other ethnic group: 6.1 per million of the population annually from 2015 to 2024.

ICJ THROWS OUT SUDAN CASE AGAINST UAE

So, prosecuting suspected gen*cide isn’t possible if the suspect doesn’t like the idea. That seems to be the conclusion of The Hague, which has thrown out Sudan’s case against the United Arab Emirates. Khartoum says Abu Dhabi is complicit in the atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary in Sudan. The RSF is strongly believed to be a proxy for UAE interests. Still, the Gulf state reminded the court that it had opted out of that part of the Genocide Convention that makes it possible to try a state for violations, and the court agreed that that means it has no jurisdiction.

TRAORÉ: SPOKESMAN FOR A PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT

Imperialists are hellbent on clipping Pan-Africanist leader Ibrahim Traoré’s wings, and one way they are doing so is by portraying the Burkina Faso president as a lone ranger threatening Africa’s stability. That’s Sufi Alchemy’s assessment of the misinformation that has emerged over several months about the 37-year-old leader.

The Netherlands-based content creator argued that singling out @capitaineib226 (X) is meant to water down the anti-imperialist Pan-Africanist movement spearheaded by the Alliance of Sahel States (AES). Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger formed the AES bloc on 6 July 2024 following successful people-backed coups d’état that ousted Western-aligned leaders in Africa’s Sahel region. They aim to create a federal Pan-African state to light the way for continental-wide governance.

Continued…….. Sufi Alchemy reminded viewers that Traoré isn’t alone and that the imperial playbook is predictable. If they can’t crush a movement, they will isolate its leaders.

Together with Mali’s Assimi Goïta and Niger’s Abdourahamane Tiani, Traoré is one of the recognisable flag holders of a Sahel-wide people’s movement aiming to reclaim Africa’s independence. In December 2023, thousands of Nigeriens camped around French installations to ensure troops representing the former coloniser exited Niger. Furthermore, many of the over 71 million Sahelians are solidly behind their revolutionary leaders. Plus, Pan-Africanists globally support the movement, speaking out on social media and via rallies.

Although the tip may be short, the spear’s length gives it weight and direction.

African people globally have suffered centuries of oppression. Even after so-called 'independence' on the continent, the 'abolition' of slavery, and the granting of 'civil rights' in the diaspora, our people’s subjugation and second-class citizenship have persisted. Will this be the generation that stops running and shifts the tide to bring dignity to all our people, as @aaprp (X) co-founder Kwame Ture (1941-98)—in these words widely attributed to him—demanded?

COUP DUNNIT? AMERICA’S  SECRET ARMY

There was widespread anger among Africans after the attempted character assassination of Burkina Faso’s president by the head of US Africa Command (AFRICOM) during a recent Senate hearing. It’s not the first time General Michael E. Langley’s Senate performance has caught our eye. Back in March 2023, he admitted that the US had trained Africans who’d gone on to carry out coups on the continent.

Recall that on 3 April 2025, Langley accused Ibrahim Traoré of using Burkina Faso’s resources to fortify his own position, rather than for the greater good of his people. Slander is a tactic that’s been widely employed to manufacture consent for US interference in countries. Before Iraq was invaded in 2003, for instance, Washington falsely claimed the nation housed weapons of mass destruction. No WMDs were ever found.

The US also likes to use 'skinfolk' to push its agenda on the continent.
🤬16👎3👍1
Continued……. Libya, for example, was invaded under the leadership of the first Black president, Barack Obama. As a result of the 2011 operation, Muammar Gaddafi was k*lled and the country, once thriving, was plunged into ruin. It’s now widely accepted that Gaddafi was k*lled because he refused to bend to the will of Western powers and sought the unification of Africa.

Traoré, who rose to power through a widely supported coup in 2022, has, like Gaddafi, also refused to be a puppet. Following in the footsteps of Thomas Sankara, he is working to build a Burkina Faso that works for the betterment of the people instead of the enrichment of the West. Hailed as a true revolutionary on the continent and beyond, Traoré is clearly a threat to Western interests - so Washington is trying to stain his reputation.

Langley doing the master's dirty work is a reminder that not all skinfolk are kinfolk. Despite his skin colour, he serves the interests of the US, not those of the oppressed and marginalised peoples of the world.

A man's most dangerous enemies are his neighbours, those closest to him, according to the holy Bible.

That's undoubtedly true of Ibrahim Traoré, Burkina Faso's Pan-African leader. A French disinformation campaign against him is being boosted by media channels in neighbouring Nigeria.

Agence France-Presse (AFP), a French establishment mouthpiece, recently wrote an article headlined "Disinformation Fuels Support For Burkina Faso Junta Leader In Nigeria", an apparent attempt to dim Traoré's star among young Nigerians, millions of whom admire the 37-year-old revolutionary leader. The article was picked up and published word-for-word by several Nigerian publications, such as daily newspaper, The Guardian, and Channels Television, one of Nigeria's biggest and oldest television stations.
🤡7🤬2👍1
Continued……ADF magazine, an online magazine run by the US military's Africa Command (AFRICOM) also amplified Channels TV's anti-Traoré piece on its social media accounts, highlighting the existence of a combined western campaign to discredit the Burkinabe leader.

The article alleges that Traoré's growing popularity in Nigeria is the fruit of misleading Russian propaganda aimed at casting him as a messianic figure and a viable option compared to Western-aligned African leaders. Nigerian authorities have even gone a step further, arresting activists for planning a rally in solidarity with Traoré's resistance against French neo-colonialism in West Africa.

It's easy to see why Paris is co-opting Abuja to help claw back its diminishing influence in Africa. The Sahel trio of anti-imperialist nations - Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger - have kicked out French troops, slashed French media influence, started nationalising their natural resources and formed an alliance to collaborate on defence, the economy and foreign policy.

Nigerian media–and its French overlords, would do well to remind themselves that "nothing can stop an idea whose time has come"–(Victor Hugo).

RYAN HINTON: A FAMILY'S GRIEF

Grief feels so much like fear, to quote author C.S. Lewis.

It's a sickening feeling that is all too familiar to many Black people in the US who contend with and are victims of police brutality. Such is the case of the family of 18-year-old Ryan Hinton, who was fatally shot by Ohio Cincinnati police on 1 May. 2025. The following day, Hinton's father, Rodney Hinton Jr., allegedly struck and killed Hamilton County Sheriff's Deputy Larry Henderson with his car. Deputy Henderson was directing traffic for a University of Cincinnati graduation ceremony at the time.
Cincinnati Police Chief stated that the two tragic incidents are connected. Rodney Hinton Jr. has been charged with aggravated murder in the death of Deputy Henderson and is currently being held without bond.
