KENYA SIGNS DEFENCE AGREEMENT WITH U.S

Kenya’s just signed a defence cooperation agreement with the United States. It will get US funding to send 1,000 police to Haiti in the Caribbean and will also get support fighting terrorism in East Africa. But is this good news? Haitians don’t seem to think so, and neither do human rights groups concerned by the track record of Kenyan police. While West African countries have been busy expelling imperialist forces, looks like President Ruto wants to embrace them. We fear this dalliance with the US may end badly for the East African nation.

Let us know what you think.

KENYA POLICE READY FOR HAITI DEPLOYMENT

Kenya's ready to lead a multinational force to Haiti once the United Nations passes a resolution backing the mission. Kenyan officers will also train local police in the Caribbean nation. The move would be funded—pending congressional approval—by the United States, which has signed a defence cooperation accord with Kenya. Stakeholders have voiced concerns over the deployment, citing a history of human rights abuses by the Kenyan Police Force in Kenya and UN occupation troops in Haiti. Haitians have stated clearly that they do not want foreign forces on their soil, having suffered from past interventions.

What are your thoughts on Kenya leading such a force in Haiti? Let us know in the comments.

SLAVERY REPARATIONS:
TIME TO PAY UP?

Caribbean nations are upping their demands for reparation payments for slavery. They’re sending formal letters to Britain’s Royal Family and are joined by similar calls from African leaders.

Ghana’s president made the case for compensation at the recent UN General Assembly. It’s a united front and there are signs it’s having an impact.

Of course we shouldn’t hold our breath, but is the mood changing in the West over the centuries-long atrocities they committed?

We take a look.

OMALI YESHITELA: WEST SABOTAGED HAITI

Haiti has been the topic of discussion across social media for about a week running. There seems to be two opposing camps. One that condemns deployment of Kenya’s police to be the Blackface of US imperialism in Haiti, and one that says an intervention is necessary to quell the instability. In this video featuring African Stream's William Sakawa and Salifu Mack, African People’s Socialist Party Chairman Omali Yeshitela pulls back the veil on what exactly is happening in the Caribbean nation.

Continued - OMALI YESHITELA: WEST SABOTAGED HAITI

The same European and U.S. forces that for months have not been able to find willing cannon fodder for another round of occupation are responsible for the dysfunction we see today in Haiti. The majority-Black country's situation is not an accident, or due to a perceived inability of Africans to govern themselves. The first successful slave revolt that resulted in the first African Republic has had to be suppressed for over a century, says Yeshitela. Haiti is being punished for its freedom, and no amount of foreign boots on the island has solved the systemic problems created by the same powers that pretend to be concerned now.

In recent times, when Haiti had a functional, popularly elected government led by President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the US overthrew him and sent him packing to Africa, throwing the country into chaos. The US response to the confusion was to send a UN occupation force that killed tens of thousands of Haitians through cholera, alongside mass reports of rape, including that of children. It is no wonder Haitians are strongly against yet another foreign intervention. Kenya is merely Blackwashing Western imperialism by providing false solutions that do not address Haiti’s problems, namely destruction of the African island nation of Haiti to further Western interests.

LONG LIVE SAMORA MACHEL!

Samora Machel, the leader of Mozambique’s independence struggle and the country’s first post-independence president, was born on this day in 1933.

He was born into a family of subsistence farmers forced off their land to pave the way for Portuguese settlers. This experience made Machel politically conscious at a young age.

After primary school, Machel trained to be a nurse and later worked at a hospital in the then-capital, Lourenço Marques. The poor working conditions for black nurses at the hospital compared to their white counterparts further politicized Machel. In the early 60s, he left the country for Tanzania to join the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO), the country’s liberation movement.

After undergoing military training in Algeria, he quickly rose through the ranks and in 1970, he became FRELIMO’s president after founding leader Eduardo Mondlane was killed in a bomb attack in 1969.

In 1975, he became Mozambique’s president when it gained independence from Portugal.

In 1975, he became Mozambique’s president when it gained independence from Portugal.

Machel quickly embarked on an ambitious program to develop the country. He also welcomed liberation movements fighting against racist regimes in South Africa and Rhodesia.

However, his time in power was far from easy. He fought rebels from the Resistência Nacional Moçambicana (RENAMO), whom Malawi and the two racist regimes backed. RENAMO targeted rural populations and destroyed vital economic and social facilities such as power stations and bridges.

This crippled Mozambique’s economy, forcing Machel to sign a non-aggression pact with the South African apartheid regime. However, Pretoria continued to clandestinely support RENAMO.

In 1986, Machel died in a plane crash in South Africa with accusations that Pretoria was behind the tragedy. Subsequent investigations into the crash have produced more questions than answers, and after nearly 37 years, the exact cause is yet to be determined.

What is clear, however, is that Machel was one of the finest revolutionaries, cadres and leaders the motherland has produced. His legacy is one of sacrifice and struggle for the total emancipation of the African people. Long Live the undying spirit of Comrade Samora Machel! Long live Mozambique!

NAPOLI INSULTS STAR NIGERIAN STRIKER

Nigeria’s superstar striker Victor Osimhen was publicly mocked by his Italian club Napoli this week. They posted a humiliating video on TikTok that poked fun at his recent penalty miss against Bologna. The club quickly deleted it but hasn’t apologised, only saying it wasn’t meant to ‘offend’. So, here’s our question: would this have happened if Osimhen was say... an Italian White legend of the club? We look at the ridiculous scapegoating of an attacker whose goals handed Napoli their first league noscript in decades.

NIGERIENS DESTROY FRENCH WATER TRUCK!

Barely two weeks after Nigerien civilians and soldiers seized croissants meant for French troops, angry youths attacked a truck carrying drinking water destined for the forces of the former colonial ruler. The incident comes amid increased calls for France to heed the new government's order to withdraw its troops from the country because of “contradicting interests on Niger.” French President Emmanuel Macron had initially defied orders to remove troops from Niger following the military take over, but relentless protests by Nigeriens forced him to abandon his tough talk and give in to the demands. He recently announced that the troops will be withdrawn by the end of 2023, but Nigeriens who have suffered decades of French occupation and exploitation want it to happen sooner.

Continued - NIGERIENS DESTROY FRENCH WATER TRUCK!

Relations between Niger and its former colonial ruler, which maintains a military presence in Niger, irretrievably broke down after the ousting of Paris-aligned Mohamed Bazoum in July. So first it was the croissants, now it’s their water - France should take the loud hint and not wait another second to leave Niger as they are clearly not welcome.

'IMPERIALISM ISN'T STRONG BUT AFRICAN TRAITORS ARE STRONG'

Kemi Seba, a prominent Pan-African activist, led a large protest in Niger's capital, Niamey, in front of the French military base on September 28. The demonstrators were demanding the swift departure of French troops from the country.

These protests have been ongoing, with almost daily gatherings at the base throughout the month. French President Emmanuel Macron announced on September 24 that French troops would gradually withdraw, but many Nigeriens want a faster exit.

Kemi Seba has a history of arrests and expulsions from European countries in the course of Pan-African agitation. He urged Nigeriens to rise up against the French presence and accused West African leaders aligned with France of being traitors.
