AMERICA’S HYPOCRISY EXPOSED
Nigeria celebrated its 63rd independence anniversary from British colonial rule on 1 October. In this 1996 interview with US news programme, “60 Minutes,” Louis Farrakhan exposed and challenged US hypocrisy in judging Nigeria. The Nation of Islam leader said Nigeria is a young nation working to overcome its challenges. Hence, he added, it does not need the United States to lecture it on how to run its affairs.
He questioned the United States’ moral authority to impose governance on African nations. He criticised the United States for disregarding its own past atrocities, such as the atomic bombing of two Japanese cities—Hiroshima and Nagasaki—and the genocide against indigenous peoples. He challenged the portrayal of Nigeria as the world’s most corrupt nation and called for an end to hypocritical moralising.

Continued…Parallels can be drawn with recent events, as the West expects Africa to toe its geopolitical line on the war in Ukraine. They want Africans to forget that the United States and its allies bombed Libya, and invaded Iraq and Afghanistan.

African leaders are often accused of spending public funds on luxurious items such as high-end vehicles, five star hotels and first class tickets at the expense of the needs of the masses. However, a new crop of African leaders who are against such excesses is emerging.
Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema is one of those who have taken a swipe at the use of taxpayers' money to fund leaders' opulent lifestyles. In an address to mayors and leaders of the country's municipalities, Hichilema said the money spent on expensive vehicles would be better spent enhancing service delivery to the public.

RAMONA AFRICA: ‘PRESSURE’ MOVES THE GOVERNMENT
As a revolutionary activist, Ramona Africa says the only way to defeat systemic racism in the United States is with a united African people taking matters into their own hands.
Ramona Africa was a member of one of the most iconic Black liberation groups, MOVE. It was a U.S.-based communal organisation that unapologetically stood for African liberation, and against slavery of any kind as well as environmental destruction. Formed in 1972, their name was not an acronym, but rather a statement to mean that “everything that lives,” moves. In May of 1985, nearly 500 police officers surrounded the MOVE house in Philadelphia and engaged the group in a gun fire. Later, under the command of the police commissioner, a bomb was dropped on the compound, killing six adults and five children.
