HOW AFRICA CAUSED WORLD WAR 1

Everyone thinks World War 1 started in the Balkans with the assassination of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, but have you ever considered that its main cause was actually a beef about Africa that emanated from the Berlin Conference of 1885?

In this clip, Professor James Small explains why Germany's dissatisfaction with the result of the "Scramble for Africa" had them ready to risk it all... literally.

Professor Small was a visionary academic whose work spanned a wide range of topics, leaving an indelible mark on the fields of African history, spirituality and social justice. With a deep commitment to education and enlightenment, he embarked on a tireless journey to resurrect forgotten narratives and set the record straight on Africa and African people.

ZAMBIAN PRESIDENT: WHY ARE YOU DRIVING A VX?

African leaders are often accused of spending public funds on luxurious items such as high-end vehicles, five star hotels and first class tickets at the expense of the needs of the masses. However, a new crop of African leaders who are against such excesses is emerging.

Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema is one of those who have taken a swipe at the use of taxpayers' money to fund leaders' opulent lifestyles. In an address to mayors and leaders of the country's municipalities, Hichilema said the money spent on expensive vehicles would be better spent enhancing service delivery to the public.

RAMONA AFRICA: ‘PRESSURE’ MOVES THE GOVERNMENT

As a revolutionary activist, Ramona Africa says the only way to defeat systemic racism in the United States is with a united African people taking matters into their own hands.

Ramona Africa was a member of one of the most iconic Black liberation groups, MOVE. It was a U.S.-based communal organisation that unapologetically stood for African liberation, and against slavery of any kind as well as environmental destruction. Formed in 1972, their name was not an acronym, but rather a statement to mean that “everything that lives,” moves. In May of 1985, nearly 500 police officers surrounded the MOVE house in Philadelphia and engaged the group in a gun fire. Later, under the command of the police commissioner, a bomb was dropped on the compound, killing six adults and five children.

Revolutionary icon Che Guevara was executed by the Bolivian army on this day in 1967.

According to Algerian President Ahmed Ben Bella, the Argentine saw Africa as imperialism's weak link.

He not only cared about bringing change to his own country or his second home, Cuba but wanted the entire Global South to be freed from colonialism. And that saw him take up the fight in Congo. Che Guevara went to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1964 to support the Simba rebellion. Guevara's involvement was at the request of Congolese rebels seeking assistance against the Western-backed neo-colonial government in Kinshasa. He provided military training and guidance to the rebels, aiming to help them fight against the forces that executed Congo's first Prime Minister, Patrice Lumumba, three years earlier.

Kenya’s president has defended his decision to send police to Haiti to fight gang violence and restore order. According to William Ruto, he’s running to help a Caribbean island that’s still suffering from the bitter legacy of colonialism. But isn’t that just clever spin?
