WATCH: UK COPS UNLEASH DOG ON RAPPER MIST
Watch the moment UK rapper Mist is attacked by a police dog.
Bystanders filmed how British officers unleashed an aggressive German Shepherd while attempting to detain the Black rap artist, shouting “get on the floor now.” It’s unclear what led to the incident in Birmingham last week.
The debate over police brutality and accountability has reignited in the UK after the country’s home secretary was accused of interfering in a criminal prosecution. She made a series of comments on Twitter in response to a London police officer being charged with murder after he shot dead Chris Kaba, a 24-year-old unarmed Black man in South London.

UK police have a long record of using violence against unarmed Black men. According to Inquest, an advocacy group, Blacks are SEVEN times more likely to die than Whites following restraint by police. At least 1,871 people have died in British police custody since 1990. Yet only one officer has ever been successfully prosecuted.

PANDOR ON ‘RULES-BASED ORDER’ AND PALESTINE
South Africa has long expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine, seeing their struggle as similar to the one against apartheid.
The recent violence in the region has brought renewed focus on the issue of Palestine’s right to sovereignty, as well as on the question of adherence to international law.
Around a year ago, South Africa’s foreign minister weighed in on these issues in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Back then, there were calls to reform the UN Security Council to get around Russia’s veto - that is, to change the so-called ‘rules-based order.’
But as Naledi Pandor pointed out, why should this happen in response to one people (Ukrainians) defending their sovereignty and not another (Palestinians)?

FINALLY! FRENCH TROOPS START NIGER EXIT!
A three-month French troop withdrawal from Niger has officially started. It’s a testament to the tenacity and endurance of the Nigerien people, who have been protesting outside French sites in the country for weeks.
France’s 1,500-strong Niger force is now heading to Chad, a country with nine French military bases.
Many feel France has failed in its ‘anti-terror’ mandate in the Sahel. In Burkina Faso and Mali, many civilians claim life, although still difficult, has improved in terms of security since the French left more than a year ago. Nigeriens are optimistic the same will be true for them as well.

But it will be tough. The US has announced a $500-million cut in aid to Niger, one of the world's poorest countries. This is on top of aid cuts from other Western powers, and sanctions from regional bloc ECOWAS. Despite this, Niger and its people look unshaken in their determination to chart an independent path.

‘IMF BANKRUPTED GHANA’
Ghana is facing a cost-of-living crisis and crushing debt. The government blames the eyewatering inflation on the Ukraine conflict and Covid. Protesters blame their plummeting currency on government corruption. Meanwhile the International Monetary Fund says another loan is the answer.
However, some believe the IMF has long been the problem. According to Ghanaian journalist Kwesi Pratt Jnr, its destructive neoliberal policies have caused today’s mess.
Under Kwame Nkrumah, the country had prospered.
However, after decades of IMF cut backs, Ghana’s economy has been crippled.

Today, Accra is returning to the Western lender, bowl in hand, for a 17th time. But if a break from the shackles of debt was possible under austerity programmes, it would have happened by now.
What’s more, the West never made its wealth from the neoliberal capitalist model it preaches. According to Pratt, that came from colonialism, the slave trade and exploitation.
It’s a strong argument. Listen to him make the case and give us your thoughts.

‘ISRAEL NEEDS U.S. SUPPORT’
Is Israel an apartheid state? Well, some people think so. In this video, Jacqueline Luqman, a journalist and activist who attended a pro-Palestine rally held October 8 in Washington, D.C., draws parallels between the practices of the Israeli government and those of South Africa’s apartheid regime.
The speaker also points out Israel’s ability to inflict violence on the Palestinians relies on outside funding. Israel is, by far, the largest recipient of US aid since the end of World War II. In 2016, then-US president Barack Obama signed a deal to provide $38 billion in military aid to Israel over the course of 10 years.

YOUNG BIDEN: ISRAEL SERVES
WESTERN INTERESTS
Here is something to think about whenever you hear the West wax lyrical about ‘both sides’ with regard to the Zionist occupation of Palestine. In this 5 June 1986 video, then-US Senator and now-US President Joe Biden let the cat out of the bag as to why Israel is so important to the United States. Hint: It’s to protect Western interests in West Asia.
These remarks given on the US Senate floor demystify the overwhelming show of support Israel has received from almost every Western leader as Palestine intensified its resistance this week. It should serve as a wake-up call for the majority of the international community, which international polls show is interested in justly resolving the Palestinian question.

It matters to Africa, as the motherland knows the pain and indignity of living under oppression. Before Palestine was divided for the creation of Israel, Britain wanted to carve out 13,000 km2 of Uganda, present-day Kenya, from the Mau escarpment to Lake Victoria for the creation of a Jewish state. Who knows, perhaps today, Africans would be on the frontlines for their land as Palestinians are for theirs. Even today, Israel has played a large role on the continent, as seen with "normalisation" agreements Egypt, Morocco and Sudan have signed. The West should be viewed as a biased arbiter, as decades of complicity in the oppression and death of Palestinians shows.

LESSONS FROM CANADA'S NAZI SCANDAL
Canada's ovation for a former Nazi soldier has sent ripples across the world So, what’s this got to do with Africa? Well, rightly, there was outrage when Yarolsav Hunka was warmly applauded in Canada’s parliament. The House of Commons Speaker was forced to resign over the incident which highlights the importance of never whitewashing the crimes of World War Two. However, did you know Nazis used Africa to perfect their barbarism decades before? Unfortunately those were crimes the world chose to ignore. We discuss it at length on our YouTube page, but here's a taste of what it's about.

SOUTH AFRICANS SHOW SOLIDARITY WITH PALESTINIANS
South Africans have been showing their solidarity with Palestinians at protests outside the US Consulate in Johannesburg and the Jewish Museum in Cape Town. More radical protesters also turned out, expressing vocal support for militant group Hamas.
There is a longstanding tradition of championing Palestine in South Africa, best encapsulated by Nelson Mandela’s dictum: “Our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians.”
Not only do many South Africans see an affinity between their plight under apartheid and that of the Palestinians under Israeli occupation, but there were close historical ties between the White-supremacist regime in South Africa and the Israeli state.
An editorial in Die Burger, the apartheid-era South African government’s mouth-piece, stated: “Israel and South Africa ... are engaged in a struggle for existence...

The anti-Western powers have driven Israel and South Africa into a community of interests which had better be utilised than denied.”
Israel reportedly assisted South Africa in its nuclear weapons programme, which ended in 1989. South African paramilitaries and volunteers paid visits to Israel, and Pretoria permitted Zionist organisations and fundraising inside South Africa.
Since independence, however, South Africa has been one of our continent’s bulwarks of support for the Palestinian cause, alongside countries like Algeria. Its third-largest political party, the Economic Freedom Fighters, recently called for a significant reduction in South African-Israeli relations, including the shutting down of embassies.
