TIKTOK CREATOR PRETENDS TO BE ISRAEL 😂
African people worldwide always look for the most creative way to get the message out, and Mika, a US-based TikTok creator, is no different. Check out this brilliantly performed parody on how supporters of Israel react to the world raising questions about the 7 October escalation in the Palestine-Israel conflict. So far, about 24,000 Palestinians have been killed in more than 100 days in the besieged Gaza Strip.

FINAL TOOTH IN THE COFFIN
One of our greatest heroes was assassinated 63 years ago today by Congolese men under the orders of Washington, Brussels and London.
It was Congolese men from Katangan who shot and killed Lumumba; the Belgians disposed of his body by dismembering it by melting it in acid and in a disgusting twist, his teeth were taken as a ‘souvenir’ by a former Belgian police chief. A singular tooth is all that remains of Congolese independence legend Patrice Lumumba. This happened more than 60 years ago yet it was only in 2020, at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, that Belgium’s King Philippe apologised for atrocities committed in DRC and agreed to return Lumumba’s tooth.
It’s now been buried in DRC - over 60 years after colonialists assassinated him.

EXCLUSIVE: PAIGC EXEC CTTE MEMBER ON REPRESSION OF PARTY
The PAIGC has long been respected and supported in Guinea-Bissau for being the party of the people, run by the people. After all, it was the PAIGC that won the country its independence after a brutal armed struggle against Portuguese colonialism led by Amílcar Cabral. For the first several years of Guinea-Bissau's existence as an independent state, the country's sovereignty and institutions were synonymous with the PAIGC party. However, a coup d'état in 1980 changed the relationship between the party and the state. After power was seized by a small minority, the country was forced to open itself up to multi-party democracy. Since that time, the PAIGC has won every single election it has competed in except for one in 1999.

Continued…. The current president of Guinea-Bissau, Umaro Sissoco Embaló, has been accused of coming to power via a soft coup supported by regional bloc ECOWAS against the PAIGC party. He is now also accused of working to repress the PAIGC, including in the aftermath of their victory in the June 2023 legislative elections. Embaló has vowed to remove, illegally, the prime minister that the PAIGC has put forward.
For more insight into the situation, African Stream spoke exclusively to Imani Na Umoja - a member of the PAIGC’s central committee.
Do you think President Embaló will end up getting his way?

NAMIBIA REMINDS GERMANY OF ITS GENOCIDAL PAST
The Namibian government has taken a swipe at Germany’s decision to support Israel against South Africa’s International Court of Justice (ICJ) case that accuses Tel Aviv of committing genocide against Palestinians.
On 12 January, the German government announced it would intervene as a third party to make arguments at the ICJ on behalf of Israel. Berlin claims the landmark case has ‘no basis in fact.’ It has also accused Pretoria of ‘political instrumentalisation’ of the charge of violating the 1948 United Nations Genocide Convention. However, reports say Germany’s intervention would not affect a provisional ruling, which is expected to be announced in a few weeks.
Namibian President Hage Geingob said Germany’s decision demonstrates the former colonial power has failed to learn from its horrific past. From 1904-08, Germany forces massacred as many as 100,000 indigenous Namibians in what is widely regarded as the 20th century’s first genocide.

‘BUTCHER BIDEN, IRELAND DISOWNS YOU’ - CLARE DALY
Clare Daly created a nickname for the US president, calling him ‘Butcher Biden’ for enabling Israel’s devastating attacks on Gaza that have killed more than 24,000 Palestinians since 7 October.
In a fiery speech on 16 January at the European Parliament, Daly also ordered Joe Biden to desist from invoking his Irish roots, reportedly on his mother’s side. In April 2023, Biden took a much-heralded tour of Ireland.
Ireland has suffered under British colonialism for about 800 years, with part of its island under British control to this day. That is why the Irish support Palestine in its struggle against Israel’s occupation and apartheid policies. No wonder Israel’s heritage minister, Amichai Eliyahu, told Palestinians to ‘go to Ireland or the desert.’

Continued….Israel has said its operations are only meant to root out H*m*s from Gaza. However, while Washington has come under pressure to use its power and influence to implement an immediate ceasefire, the Biden administration has stayed put in its support of Tel Aviv’s relentless attacks, which have been described as a genocide in the making by the South African legal team at the International Court of Justice.

CIA AND LUMUMBA’S ASSASSINATION
The US-sponsored plot to kill Patrice Lumumba, the first prime minister of the DRC and the country’s independence hero, took place 63 years ago today, on 17 January 1961. The gruesome murder was a culmination of multiple assassination plots by the American, British and Belgian governments, which used paid Congolese accomplices and a Belgian execution squad to carry out the hit. Declassified CIA documents revealed the American government’s desire to assassinate Lumumba even before the country’s independence, and the director of the CIA had called him “worse than Castro”.
The straight-talking pan-Africanist maintained that his interests were those of the Congolese people and described himself as a nationalist. He wanted full independence and full control over natural resources to better the lives of the Congolese people - and that irked imperialists.

Continued….While discussing the Congo crisis with Lord Home, Britain’s foreign secretary, US President Dwight Eisenhower said he wished “Lumumba would fall into a river full of crocodiles.”
After failed attempts to use a Georgian hitman and a poison expert to spike Lumumba’s toothpaste, the CIA pulled strings behind the scenes through the country’s political situation following independence to paint Lumumba as a “Commie”. During the height of the Cold War in the 1960s, Congo was and still is geopolitically strategic. The Congo was another chess piece in the U.S. Cold War fight against Communism, and the CIA was determined to ensure Western loyalty even though, in terms of the Cold War, Lumumba was determined to stay neutral.
Lumumba and two of his associates were executed by firing squad. Their bodies were hacked to pieces and dissolved in sulphuric acid. Here’s a reminder of the chilling details surrounding the assassination, one of the most significant in the 20th century.

MUHAMMAD ALI VS VIETNAM WAR
Muhammad Ali, who would have turned 82 today, is possibly the greatest boxer of all time. But he is known as the greatest not just for what he did inside the ring but also for what he did outside the ring. He was a passionate advocate for racial justice for Africans in America. He never shied away from standing up for what he believed in and courageously stood against the Vietnam War, famously refusing to join the U.S. Army's murderous campaign against the people of Vietnam, stating: "I will not go 10,000 miles from here to help murder and kill other poor people".
For his courageous stand he was sentenced to five years in prison which and stripped of his boxing license. The license was restored in 1970 and year later his conviction was overturned by the US Supreme court. Ali's spirited fight against being drafted to fight into a US imperialist war is widely hailed as his greatest fight and victory!

HOW WESTERN TECH INDUSTRY DESTABILISES DRC
Could the West’s greed for electronics, advanced tech and profits be contributing to the genocide in Congo? A bold question, but one that needs to be asked. The DRC should be one of the richest nations in the world, given its immense mineral wealth. But instead, it’s consistently ranked as one of the poorest. Moreover, it’s being torn apart by conflict and a humanitarian crisis. African Stream’s Erick Gavala takes a deep dive into how greedy Western technology giants - and their growing appetite for DRC’s most sought-after minerals - are escalating the country’s insecurity.

PT 2: JULIA HARTLEY-BREWER’S DISGRACEFUL INTERVIEW
Thanks to popular demand, we present part 2 of TalkTV host Julia Hartley-Brewer’s now-infamous interview with Palestinian official Dr. Mustafa Barghouti.
After she had interrupted him throughout the interview and made a sexist accusation that maybe he wasn’t ‘used to women talking,’ she gave him just 10 seconds to tell the audience what he thought would have been an acceptable Israeli response to H*m*s’ 7 October surprise attack.
Barghouti then succinctly called for the end of Israel’s occupation of Palestine as well as peace for both Palestinians and Israelis. She replied, ‘Brilliant!’ And then ludicrously added, ‘Sorry to have been a woman speaking to you.’

SUDANESE MOTHER’S DESPAIR AFTER 9 MONTHS OF WAR
You can hear the hopelessness in the voice of Batoul, one of millions of displaced Sudanese as civil war rages in the Sahelian country. However, the mother says she still loves Sudan, and she hopes her children will have a better future than the reality to which she has resigned her generation.
Wad Medani, where Batoul is currently located, emerged as a critical humanitarian hub in April, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). It hosts hundreds of thousands of internally displaced people escaping the conflict in the capital of Khartoum.
Now in its ninth month, the war has left half of Sudan’s 48 million people requiring aid. According to the United Nations, more than 7.3 million people have fled their homes.

Continued….Sudan recently bypassed the Democratic Republic of the Congo to take the unfortunate distinction of having the biggest internal displacement crisis in the world. Meanwhile, hunger is rising. And, more than 13,000 people have been killed.Plus, the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project reports a 56 per cent increase in explosions and remote violence in Khartoum in the weeks between 25 November and 5 January, compared to the six weeks prior. Young boys reportedly have been connoscripted as child soldiers, while monitors on the ground say young girls have been forced into prostitution.
Previous attempts to negotiate an end to fighting have failed. Most recently, Sudan’s government suspended ties with the East African regional bloc, Intergovernmental Authority on Development, because it invited RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (known as ‘Hemedti’) to a 18 January meeting in Uganda.
As the two sides battle it out, innocent civilians like Batoul are sandwiched in the middle, paying the highest price.

WHY GERMANY (!) REJECTS PRETORIA’S GENOCIDE CASE
Germany has rejected South Africa’s historic Hague genocide case against Israel. That may come as a surprise, given it’s guilty of multiple genocides in the 20th century. African Stream’s Ahmed Ghoneim digs deeper into what the real reason behind Berlin’s allegation that Pretoria’s case is “baseless” could be.

GERMANY’S FORGOTTEN GENOCIDE IN NAMIBIA
Germany has decided to come to Israel’s defence after South Africa lodged the charge of genocide in the International Court of Justice. This has angered many, including the Namibians, who say Germany has yet to fully atone for its crimes of genocide against the indigenous Herero and Nama peoples between 1904 and 1908 in what was then called ‘German South West Africa.’
The story is one characterized by colonialism, concentration camps and a sickening level of racism, plus a struggle for freedom that was met with oppression and extreme brutality. Considered the 20th century’s first genocide, we take a look at Germany’s acts in Namibia.
